I think the big thing with this game which as a NZ supporter warmed my cockles was our batters showing intent towards the spinners but not to the point of being reckless. This was a lot to do with Rachin but there were signs of this from Conway, Blundell and Latham in Sri Lanka. I’m really hoping Mitchell gets a score to get him back in the series. He is the missing piece to the batting puzzle.

Don't know who told them to attack or not tell them to play sensibly but a proper analysis and accountability exercise needs to be done on such a game which could have been won. Rishabh and Sarfaraz brought us to such a good position and to lose from there says a lot about the abilities of those 3 players. We need to bring in Axar who has saved us in the last year or so in many situations as such. Also, akashdeep for Siraj please. Siraj's abilities are quite bare tbh.

The point is, NZ won the game at three crucial points in the whole test. 1) When they were able to bowl out India for 46 on an Indian soil that too using fast medium bowlers courtesy of Swing, Seam and Bounce. 😏 2) NZ were 240 odd for 7 against India in first innings yet they were able to score 400 odd runs of thanks primarily the partnership between Ravindran and Southee. Now it was more Southee than Ravindran who did the bulk of scoring. When was the last time Tim Southee scored something like this even in SENA countries, let alone Asia. 😉 3) The dismissal of Rohit Sharma, the dismissal of Virat Kohli and the Dismissal of Rishabh Pant in 2nd innings followed by a collapse which is otherwise highly unlikely for a team with calibre of India considering the home record India has. 4) Bumrah was hooping and swinging the red cherry like a boomerang even in the second innings. Missed the edge quite a time, yet didn't have been able to convert those into wickets. Not just Bumrah, even when Jadeja or Kuldeep were bowling they have created quite a half chances, only to fall short before the fielders. So in a nutshell, as what Jerrod Kimber said to beat India in a test match in India opposition has to bat better than India, bowl better than India i.e. to expect Indian batters to score fewer runs than them and also expect luck to be in their favour in terms of grabbing half a chance, missing edges, players like Southee to play a Blinder of an innings after god knows how many days later and many more. And these are the things which use to happen once in a blue moon and certainly not collectively. Add to that pitch assisted faster bowlers on day 1 for almost 30 overs. 😑 How often did you see this happening in India? 😏😏😏
