Top 500 and GM players get massive amounts of SR when they win, and lose very little SR when they lose. This is all due to the system noticing their particular performance in each game, seeing that they really deserve to be at a higher rank, and basically tries to push them up the ranks to where it believes they should be. This is why a top 500 player can have multiple smurfs in top 500, because it doesn't take much time for them to fly through the ranks, as the system pushes them out of the low ranks quickly.
