On this episode, Clay Newcomb explores the Folsom archeological site in Folsom, New Mexico where the archeological world was turned upside down in 1925. Clay visits the Folsom Museum where he learns about the former slave, George McJunkin’s involvement in finding the bones from museum curator, Matt Doherty. Clay then takes a tour of the Folsom site with the world’s foremost expert on Folsom, Dr. David Meltzer of SMU. Ultimately, Tony Soares makes Clay a Folsom replica point which he takes back to Arkansas to use on a bear hunt.

When I first watched Meateater several years back, I was captivated by Rinella and his ability to capture and put into words the respect for the land and all the life it supports, and how genuine he is at addressing the human condition of working hard to obtain food from the land. I remember thinking back then, I don’t think there will ever be anyone as good at communicating that wisdom and respect and sincerity as Steve. Clearly I was wrong in thinking that. Clay and The Bear Grease podcast has been just as sincere and genuine, and this show is equal, in my eyes, to The Meateater in all aspects. Thanks for the inspiration Man.

@@IvanIvanoIvanovich yes sir, all legal here in Texas to dig private property. The only artifact I found worth documenting was a brass Spanish trade gorget, to local tribes. @@lucaspeterson8701 That's awesome! I think we all hope for a Clovis in our career so congrats! The Spanish presence in Texas is so fascinating too. I'm not surprised, but extremely impressed that the head did not break inside the bear. The idea that you can reuse your stone arrowheads is awesome. I used to make my own bows and arrows when I was a kid, and often the heads would snap on something hard, but I never had the chance to hunt real game with them. This such a great video! God Bless*

I'm sure I'm biased, but things like the Canadian angle do nothing for me, this though, is exactly why i love MeatEater. Education more than anything has always been y'alls earmark, whether it's new hunters, old hunters, non hunters, etc. I didn't hunt when i found y'all, and i do now in large part because of what I've learned here.
