How and Why I combed out my Locs after 8 Years!

On the 1st of January 2021 I started combing out my Locs of over 8 years.
It was a decision I had considered carefully and In this video I share with you why I came to this decision and how it was possible to comb out my locs and retain my loose natural hair.
I did my best to answer questions i've been asked in real life and online already but I'm certain some of you will have even more questions, so if i've missed out anything comment below and I will respond as best as I can!

Anyone who has sisterlocks more than 8-10 years understands the patience and time that takes into growing locs, so taking them out is almost the same process that's if you want to maintain some of the length. I'm currently taking down my sisterlocks that I had for 20 years, I had them since I was 7 years old and I actually can't remember what my natural hair texture ever felt like. They were down to my butt, probably even longer if I hadn't I cut them so many times to a short bob to my ears. After sometimes I feel like memories and emotions get stuck in them, similar like having an old sweater. For me they felt emotionally unhealthy because they became heavy; filled with people's expectations other than my own love for them, losing its initial meaning of self-love. As well as physically unhealthy I dyed them so many times once with blonde once with red they lost their volume and the texture changed and they looked lifeless. So I want to take it down and I crave change. This video was so empowering, her approach the words, the patience, and love during the whole process of detangling them. As I take them down sometimes I get nervous and sad, it makes me realize how much I was relying on other people's validation other than my own. I have to remind myself this is for my own betterment because when I look in the mirror I currently don't resonate anymore with sisterlocks and I feel like I'm dishonoring myself every time I retighten them. Sometimes other people live vicariously through my hair. Sisterlocks are absolutely stunning and when people see how long they can get they're shocked and get almost obsessed but after having them for so long I realize it really is just hair I can get them again if I want. This time with my new hair journey my goal is health. Some people will never understand why someone cuts their hair they're just obsessed with length. They don't understand that a hair journey can have multiple goals that can change over time.

I’ve had my locs for 10 years! Can’t believe I’m actually considering this but I honestly miss my loose hair. I miss being able to run my fingers through my hair. I miss feeling my poofy natural hair. I’ve been having this feeling lately. I’m going to sit on it for a while. At this point, I’m not opposed to it. As I am watching this I have flashbacks to last July when I combed out my locs, which I’d had for 23 years 😲. Nothing else was able to get inside and I had 48 thick locs. Like you I didn’t want to do the big chop but I couldn’t understand all these KZbinrs who said they used a rat tail comb and it took them 3- 5 days. I used a pin - the one you use for sewing and it took me 21 days and some days I only took out one. I managed to retain a lot of my length and I’m enjoying my loose natural hair - Ayurvedic treatments all the way. That experience told me I can handle anything!

Earlier tonight, God placed heavily on my spirit for me to place a post on your page. I did not.... so here I am crying and in repentance at the 3am hour after awakening up from a dream from the Lord due the "multiple" incidents of disobedience within the last couple of days. The story is that I came across your docuseries on Ndani called "New Africa" a couple years back. I absolutely felled in love with your documentaries. You might not know this, but your beautiful essence is such an inspiration to so many Black women. I know that you are an inspiration to me. You are honestly one of the most beautiful women that I have ever seen. You possess this down to Earth queenly confidence and you carry your beauty in an unapologetic way. Unfortunately, there are not too many examples of Black women such as yourself.... women that are boldly embracing all of how God created them to be; unapologetically embracing. You could also do an oil treatment first to soften the hair before and after. It helped me a lot not to loose too much. It is draining but you do feel free afterwards... Health hair 💕

You’ll still end up loosing volume. The strand will be very weak after being tied up for a long time. Might as well shave it off
