Your hair looks nice. I hope you dont take this wrong.I'm just going to give my opinion based on my experience and what I've seen. I've been locked for almost 7 years, and I don't have lint and no receding hair line.. Apple cider vinegar is to remove product out of your hair, not lint removal. Also, any hairstyle can cause breakage, balding, etc. It depends on the person. I know of people who have had locs for 20 years and have no problems. If your ponytail is too tight or you wear your up all the time, it can cause breakage and thinning. So it just depends on the individual. Just my opinion.

Misconception: acv rinses help with build up, not lint. Build up= the accumulation of product Lint= material from clothing, pillows, bedding etc.

Good advice. I had locs for 8 and 1/2 years and loved them until i began experiencing female pattern baldness and CCCA that was getting worse as my locs got longer and heavier. People in the loc community get a bit judgemental when you tell them you have to get rid of them. Growing locs is a journey and at times some people will need to end that journey, but its okay. We need to be more accepting of different natural styles and not judge people for their choices.

Yes, the hair especially on the hairline, has come back about 80%. I think it was due to the tension in an already fragile area that it came out. It helps to have a good diet and Nutrofol.

I love the way your hair look and I've always believed that lack of information before starting the Loc journey is what caused a lot of loc mistakes. When I saw locs I knew that it's what I should have done a long time ago, so I went straight into it and also immediately started digging up ways to maintain healthy locs, and that's what I have, Im also full of information on what I can and cannot do to my locs hence, what my channel is majorly about. I feel i need to share what learnt and stop people from damaging their locs.

I also believe that you can do research (as I did) and still come across things during the journey that you wouldn't have known because everyone's journey and hair is different. Apple Cider Vinegar is to detox product buildup... bonnets, silk/satin pillow cases help reduce lint almost completely... I’ve read biotin has mixed opinions from medical community as to whether it helps with hair growth... reducing Re-twisting helps keep thickness of hair, size of locs are a necessary consideration as weight plays a part in thinning hair.

I experienced the sameeee thing!! My scalp can’t take it anymore!! My scalp is very sensitive & I am noticing a bit of thinning although it’s growing back thicker now. . I still want to comb them out, maybe I will install more later with a more stable foundation! Also the LINT!!! It’s driving me mad!! I literally have not gone without a bonnet to sleep EVERY SINCE I STARTED MY JOURNEY!! I have combed the ends out to get the lint out & it made it worse 💀 I’m so lost!! I just cant! I’m in the process of combing out my last 25 locs and as much as I enjoyed them; as you said it is a journey and not a final destination. I did the whole gamut of hairstyles before locs, I really missed running my fingers through my hair and my scalp is sensitive and that tension even from just swimming was REAL. I just couldn’t do it anymore and I wasn’t going to continue to sacrifice my hair for the “look” and acceptance into the group.

I finally finished 9/15 and I regret nothing, though I did have to cut a good chunk of “crunchy ends” due to color damage; my scalp and hair is much healthier and I’m happier than ever. In this economy I need to be happy with my straight natural hair and not spending extra money on products to make my locs happy.

Most loc wearers are in denial about most if what you're talking about. I wore locs for over a decade, and they looked the neatest from the outside and I shampooed my hair every single week. But lint is real. Hair thinning is real. ETC. Couldn’t take it anymore all for the sake of having a certain look. The whole video is on point, even if some swear it's all due to lack of knowledge... it's not. I did my research before and during the journey. Hi, first I want to say that I agree with what you said for the most part. Tension, and balding can become a big issue for some individuals with locs, lint is the bane of most loc'd people's existence, and some people push their ideals on what having locs/going through the loc journey should be like onto others. However, I also want to say that with tension, thinning, balding, and breakage there are genetic, and lifestyle components. I have been loc'd for about 3 years now and I have not experienced any tension or balding issues. It depends on the person. Lint on the other hand, is a valid issue. I've been pretty consistent about wearing my loc sock but I've noticed that I still have lint (albeit minimal) in some of my locs. However, I do not think lint is such a bad thing :) I see it as a part of having locs. If you have locs you are bound to get lint eventually. I brush my hair, and wear my loc sock, and if I get lint, I get lint. There's no point in obsessing over it, or trying to pick it out to the point where it causes damage. If you take care of your locs it will be minimal. I don't have much to say about your last point, because I didn't know you could comb out locs for the longest time too lol. A lot of people will get locs for spiritual reasons and push that on to other people as well. People also make it out to be a big commitment, I think there's some validity to that, but like you said it's not irreversible, or permanent. Thank you for sharing your experience, more people will get a holistic view of locs before getting them.

I have seen a lot of heads that probably should not be locked, my scalp isn't sensitive but I keep my hair loosely lifted with a satin scrunchy to prevent unraveling. I think this also helps relieve the pull on my scalp

im in the process of taking mine down. And all while i was locked i never had lint build up that i knew of or saw. Now that i have taken some down, i see a lot of lint. It was on the inside and hidden within the loc. If you have locs, you have lint. I think the best loc kings and queens can do i check daily for lint that you can pull off the loc before it gets imbedded. And of course cover when laying down.

Acv is for product buildup. You can gently brush your hair to remove lint. A lot of thinning is caused by stylists pulling the hair too much. Which can happen with many different styles. This is one of the reasons why I learned to do my hair myself; so I can control how much tension is on my hair and prevent thinning. When I went to stylists, I'd tell them my scalp is sensitive or that they were pulling too hard and they wouldn't listen. If

I Use A Soft/Medium Bristle Brush on my locs to get rid of build up and frizz I brush them at least once a day And I Leave My Edges Out When Wearing My Bonnet To Keep It From Thinning My Hairline Hope This Helps Someone 💜

I’m 8 months locd as of yesterday! When did you start brushing your locs? I mean how far into your loc journey we’re you when you started brushing your locs. My locs are just sitting on my neck. It’s not a lot of length but I love the freedom and I can shake my hair - couldn’t do that as a loose natural. I worry with length I may get lint. Brushing might be good to try. @@zaeejones2169.. I’ve always had hair that drinks up anything you put in it no matter what style I’ve had, and I see it’s no different with my locs... I paid attention to suggestions from loc youtubers for a hot minute then I started doing what my hair communicated it needed... I can’t go any longer than 2 weeks without washing it or I’m miserable... I castor oil my scalp when needed throughout the week... I’m going to switch to argan oil for 3 mons to see if I like it, castor is too thick and the scent is not appealing... Regarding weight, I split a few locs in the beginning of my third month bcuz they were much larger and already heavier than the others. Bottom line: I’ve learned you have to pay attention to what your hair needs and not to a look or length you’re trying to achieve, and not be afraid to make adjustments, especially during the starter stage...

I was thinking about combing mine out. I miss the flexibility that I could work with in loose natural hair. Cutting/coloring is not easy with locs and the time it takes some styles to dry is crazy. I haven’t properly retwisted in like 4 months from depression and anxiety struggles. That’s one of the reasons I got locs in the first place. The loose natural wash day and daily styling just wasn’t for me. I love just getting up and going. And throwing these bad boys in a pony or half up to get it out of my face. Ok so i was going to start a loc journey but my loose hair gives me tension when its to long. I cut off all my hair in may afyer 4 years because my hair was giving me headaches and i kept having to figure out how to wear my hair so it didn't give me tension headaches. I recently combed out my locs. It was my second set. My first set I started off with long hair abt mid back length. My locs had curly ends too. However, I didn’t know much about how to maintain my hair even tho I went to a loctitian. I cut them because my loctitian had left and I just didn’t want to let my hair get worse from no maintenance. Second set I started off with short hair. I loved both sets and was able to get my hair maintained by a stylist. I knew much more abt locs and almost had them for 2 full years. But, I started to feel unhappy with my journey. I was very depressed and anxious in my life, a lot of life changes, family deaths and injuries, so I decided to comb mine out. I felt bad at first and guilty, but I honestly think it was the best decision I made for myself. I started having tender scalp where ponytails and hair styles would hurt. I didn’t get retwists but every 2-2 1/2 to 3 months because my hair could go a little while longer. But I also started to feel unattractive with my hair. Idk if it had anything to do with how I felt within myself with a lot of challenges happening at the time, but I just needed a change. I combed them out and started to feel better like a weight lifted off my shoulders. Mine were pretty clean with minimal lint around the nape area. However, everyone’s journey is different. Now I say instead of my loc journey, it’s my hair journey.

I felt ugly when I first got mine. Eventually I combed mine out too (took a month) . Later, I was shocked when I saw someone put a wig on their really long locs and even saw new loc styles that help me feel better. So I gave it another try rotating wigs and the new loc styles I learned. And I felt much better the 2nd time around going thru my "ugly". To help with the weight I got smaller locs too. Best decision for my thick hair. The cool thing is we got options and can switch up when ever we want or need. We are still beautiful Loc'd or not. Congrats on your journey.
