💎NEIL DIAMOND ~ THE AFRICAN TRILOGY: A FOLK BALLET [COMPLETE]

It's a real accomplishment to encompass Neil's works from "Taproot Manuscript" on one video and done well, Doug. Congratulations on your fervent efforts for this beautiful work. The African folk music denotes so many hidden messages that is revealed in these songs. Beginning with the children singing 'Child Song' ("And you shall come to learn this tune before it fades away..."). The lessons learned by the flooding of the valley in "I am the Lion" shows the Lion as the leader of their land and proving the tragedy of one's foolishness in trusting his own direction resulting in loss of life and the people losing everything they own. The people carried on and found solid ground to live in peace. In "Soolaimon", the singer is enamoured with the woman's beauty who dances for the 'sun'. She entices him to 'seek for the way, taking me home...bring home my name on the wings of a flea'. Such majesty and high regards for the spirit of the dance. And finally, "Missa" the language of the African People (Swahili) shouts out 'Kristo' with the realization of the Child being born and little time to go now and not be late in the hopes of meeting Him and 'He will meet me'. This piece exudes the message around the world to even the poorest of nations with love and joy in the dance and the song. The beautiful quote in the end by Nelson Mandela on how we all can learn to love all people wraps the entire Trilogy into Truth. It is times such as this that the message has long awaited to be known. Thank you for your vivid interpretation of the lyrics with such beauty, Doug, and the struggles endured in taking it to its final end.

The weeks spent tirelessly putting it together have been truly rewarding in addition to gaining further insight into this great work. Your comments provide viewers with a further insight into this absolute gem from Neil Diamond. Thank you. It never ceases to amaze me that a product of the Brill Building in Tin Pan Alley, where others stagnated, was able to rise from that commercial, pop music base to produce such an outstanding piece of work; a true masterpiece. To be followed 3 years later by the equally stunning ‘Jonathan Livingston Seagull’. Neil obviously had it in him all the while. Just simmering below the surface; creativity stifled by the urge to survive; to put food on the table for his wife and two daughters… just _surviving the life..._ Neil puts it best in ‘Home Before Dark’ - _“I've got stories_ _I wanna tell you_ _You need to hear them_ _Maybe then you'll see_ _That I've found them_ _Never knowing_ _They were going_ _On inside of me…”_ Hence the need to extricate himself from that stifling environment. Unbeknown to him, the Mafia financed Bang Records and of course, Tin Pan Alley. A move that Neil so threatened that for a time he carried a handgun. My gratitude to Katie, but for her intervention, this video would not have seen the light of day. ❤️

My mom had a copy of Taproot Manuscript when I was a kid. Beginning at age 5, I listened to this and the Elvis '68 TV Special pretty much every day for 2 or 3 years. Every. Single. Day. The whole thing. I'm 53 now, so this stuff is emotional and nostalgic for me, and I have my own copy arriving in the mail soon. I love this channel, and I will ALWAYS love Neil Diamond.

Love this. I was just searching for Neil Diamond’s Yom Kippur from The Jazz Singer and also the joyful dance song. My soul is blessed to feel his beautiful inspired faithful soulful music. It fills my head with such beautiful living life and sharing goodness like the new congregation he tells his father, they love it and it makes them feel things. Love it. To whom-ever posted this - The African Trilogy Complete......I thank you from the centre of the heartlight of my soul. I just had this blaring on the 5.1 system loud enough to hear half a block away, and I swear I felt my (deceased) Dad's hand on my shoulder whilst I was listening to it, and it brought tears to my eyes. Dad used to play this [on an 8 track cartridge cassette deck in the car] for my little sister and I when we were doing long road-trips exploring north Western Australia, back in the mid 70s, when I was just a single digit squid (kid). Again, I Thank You, from the heart of my Soul.

Love this post as I feel the same. In the 70's , every trip in my Dad's Caddy meant a ND 8 track on the quadraphonic stereo. When hitting my teen years, my cassette box was full of metal and Neil Diamond. Now, in my mid-50s, ND is played frequently which is comforting yet it does bring the occasional tears.

Tap Root Manuscript is an incredible musical achievement! The images in this video really enhance it. I remember when Paul Simon's Graceland album came out in 1986 and he got all kinds of accolades for using Ladysmith Black Mambazo on the album. I thought, "Hey! Neil Diamond did this decades ago."

Worth noting that Neil was the first ever non-African to embark on a project of this magnitude; he was decades ahead of his time. Paul Simon followed 16 years later with "Graceland". I bought this LP when it first came out. Didn't know much about it, I just knew it was Neil Diamond. I personally think Tap Roots Manuscript is a Masterpiece. Considering his body of work that is a serious statement, but I truly believe it was his Magnum opus. Thanks Neil.

Brilliant album. I heard it while at high school aged 14 yrs old. My parents love Neil Diamond and his music even now and forever. We always played all of his albums during the 70’s, with their close married families. I being the eldest child continue this tradition forever. Yes, the children sang like little angels. However...... they weren't at the time of the recording. Neil said he wasn't going to work with children ever again. He said in an interview way back when all they wanted to do was run, play and beat each other up. LOL. He had to threaten them with their mothers who was in the control room watching the hullabaloo. To get the kids to laugh during the * Iam the lion* song, he had to chase them around the room and tickle them. LOL Course, that was when he was either in his late 20's or early 30's. He would probably have a much better handle on them now.

I have watched and commented on many of your video's, where I described one such video as your magnum opus, "Prelude in E major/Sanctus/Theme" and I stand by that assessment, but this video capturing the whole of the "African Trilogy" is staggeringly brilliant, what you have achieved here is nothing short of perfection, you have told the story of each song and piece of music majestically, the images are mind blowing, we are transported to the heart of the African continent, we are there in the storms, and on the African plain, we are among the wildlife and the people. This is a celebration of life, it evokes joy, and a love of the gift of life in all its splendour, the "African Suite" is carnival like, and we dance along in the rain and under the sun, I remember my review of the album on the website, I stated that the "African Trilogy has to be heard as a complete piece of work to be wholly appreciated, what you have achieved here is to put vivid imagery to the most brilliant conceptual suite, and they marry wonderfully. Once again you have surpassed yourself in providing another visual gem, thank you Doug.

Thanks very much for your comments and kind compliments Dave, much appreciated. This one was a long time coming. I did upload 'The African Trilogy' in 2013. Unfortunately, back then, there was a limit on the length of videos. As such, I was compelled to split it into two parts, I and ll. Part l ended at 11:24. Unfortunately, after all the time and effort invested back then, both videos were blocked worldwide. Though viewing that 2013 effort now, I cringe, relieved that it was blocked. I decided to start afresh this time, bearing in mind that if this video was again blocked, that thankfully, we have Katie in our corner. After spending approximately 2 weeks, (often 6-8 hour days), I took the chance and uploaded this complete version. Within 30 minutes of upload it was blocked worldwide. I then immediately contacted Katie. But for Katie, this upload too would have remained blocked worldwide. It would appear that the exercise of appraising/blocking videos is without human input. Generally, appeals fail or they seek to impose horrendous financial penalties that make removing the block near-on impossible. Case in point, when I uploaded my first version of ‘Dry Your Eyes’ (2013) which included still images of Neil in ‘The Last Waltz’ concert (1976). It was blocked. I was then advised that to have the block removed, I had to pay US$500.00 per image. Told them where to go….. This led me to upload another video in 2019, which completely excluded any images from ‘The Last Waltz’. Please check out our homepage. I have added your review there. Best wishes.

I am rather taken aback by your description of Neil's amazing performance during his series of Hot August Night at the Greek Theatre in 1972. I do not believe, as his millions of fans worldwide, he was being overly dramatic. He was singing from his his heart and soul. I harboured the fear in my mind during the process, that like my previous effort (2013), that this one too would be blocked worldwide. And so it was! Two weeks of toil (6-8 hours per day) blocked within 30 minutes of upload. I immediately contacted Katie Diamond seeking her intervention. What a truly amazing woman she is! She immediately contacted UMG (Universal Music Group) and had the worldwide block removed. The only drawback being that a blocked video when "unblocked”, does not provide the creator with the ability to re-broadcast the video to subscribers. I’ve been working (a labour of love) my way through the videos, including those by Rachael Leahcar, who, I have to admit, I wasn’t familiar with and am enjoying them immensely. Rachael’s cover of Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me’ is a particular favourite as is Neil’s cover of ‘Hallelujah’. I know we share a passion for quality music so hope you won’t mind me suggesting that you check out another cover of Hallelujah that I heard for the first time a few months ago and it blew me away. great..ty..at my young age i new this was unique..it has passed the ages...but musically..it is still rates up there...a classic i wud say like brahms or mozart..he has done a great job..ty for helping me remember this from my early years..palyed timpani in drum and bugle corps..we never won..to many ticks...but i know we rocked it..as it was a new sound for them:) i am 64 now:)
