This would sound 4x better if it had some bass (bass guitar, synth, tuba, bass sax, whatever) to connect the guitar and the drums. It's simply a mistake musically, in my opinion at least. When it's slow, simple and dry it sounds great like this but it just feels like whenever the song tries to pick up it's being blocked by this.
