The best way to sound really good at a lower-intermediate level is by playing octaves. I would say that he is intermediate, as it really isn't technically intensive except for the arpegios which any intermediate pianist can get down in an hour or so of practice. If you want to see some incredibly technically intense music for comparison check out Animenz. Unravel and My Dearest are two of his craziest songs.
