Something that really helps me with my nanny baby (almost 18mo) and has helped with previous children as well, is to use affirmative language rather than “no”, “don’t” or anything similarly frustrating to hear that could turn into a power play or something such. Instead I say “hands back-hot”, “put it in the trash”, “gentle hands”, “walking feet”, “wait for me”, “put the books on the shelf”, etc. I also give her choices that I am alright with so she has ownership of them. Positive, affirmative language (as well as co-regulation and emotional warmth and support) have really helped me with her meltdowns and preventing many problems before they occur. I’m not perfect, either, but I have found that affirmative language-telling her what I want to see rather than what I don’t-empowers her to make the right decisions and makes her feel much less frustrated. I dont know if this is something you practice (I practice gentle, conscious parenting) or would work with your toddler, but this is just an insight that I figured out with her that I hope may help some parents.

Home videos can stay on your hard drive and not be monetized. Not be mixed in with sponsors. Not be accessible to a certain kind of people that actively seek out that content. I’m not at all saying you’re exploiting, it doesn’t seem that way which I admire but that family vlogger excuse is not the same as home videos. When I used to post my kids on my social media, it was for friends and family not everyone because my profile was private. The Dad Challenge Podcast did an interview where they talked about how the wrong kind of people use this content and what they do with it. It’s important to understand and then maybe you’ll see where the concerns come from. Most family vloggers go down that path so I get the concern. Just prove them wrong. You’re doing great so far. Love your videos. ❤

I agree about rushing the begging stuff and getting out of the way. My husband and I moved in after like 3 months of dating if that. I mean it worked for us. I can see the other side of it not working though and being in a rental agreement and having finances intertwind etc so there is that.

I can’t believe that anyone would say that you aren’t doing great cleaning up after all those kids!! YOU ARE BOTH ROCKING IT!! The ppl who are saying I never had this problem or my house never looked like that…they are either #1 terrible parents who refuse/d thier kids the ability to live within their own home making messes, creating and living are what children need to make a happy home!! Living in a museum where nothing is touched, smudged or out of place is not only SAD BUT OT SHOULD BE ABUSE!! let your little ones explore let them make your house a home!!! Filth is one thing but a home that is lived in with lots of kids to show it love that’s what life is all about!!! YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME DONT BELIEVE ANYTHING ELSE!!

I love the part about apologizing to your kids, it’s so important. I don’t remember my mom ever saying sorry for anything she did, let alone getting down on my level and talking to me about emotions. I always make sure to tell my son I’m sorry for my behavior. Like the other day I had bad road rage and started cussing in my car. I told my son I’m so sorry I lost my cool in front of him. He was able to relax and regulate his feelings

I really relate with you, Joey. I have 5 boys from 30-11. First three, I worked so much but made so much money we really all had lots of fun. These younger 2 I just try and be more present 24/7/365. Also at number 5 wife also got breast cancer. Was the best and worst time of my life. I now see work as thankless and low on my priority list and being with my boys top priority as you have no idea how fast it truly goes. And sooo true about Darius song. Everyone's WORST thought about raising kids is you will be really active in their lives til at least 18. And hate to tell most parents it is up to your child's personality but if they are very social and into athletic and like school and school functions kiss them goodbye around 7-8 grade and high school you will just be a ride and ATM first 2 years and after that just a ATM. I mean my kids know I'm always here for them but you have to let them grow in this dog eat dog world.
