She said he dressed like an outcast and listened to music that was outside the mainstream but he grew up being friends with jocks and prom queens as well as skaters and Punks and was funny and everyone liked him and wanted to hang out with him. Most people would find that description of him as a very favorable and flattering description but she meant it to be insulting.

You know? Nirvan was my favorite band back in high school. I had the same blue hat with the yellow Nirvana that Axl used to wear. I was at an age where, when Guns n Roses biggest accomplishment (AFD) had already reached it's peak, I guess I thought of Guns as being an older band and I was trying to get into the modern music. The "Grunge" music.Though, some of the timeless songs (Paradise City, Welcome To The Jungle, and Sweet Child Of Mine) were still playing on the radio occasionally. And I liked them. It's funny that you don't realize you LOVED a song/band until 30 years later. Then, they came out with "Use You're Illusion" and it had a few gems on it (November Rain, Don't Cry, and Knockin On Heaven's Door). So they were always there in the background. They'd already accomplished stardom, so to me they just seemed not like, "Oldies", but what we now call "classic rock" I wasn't as into them as much as I was with Nirvana. I graduated in 96'. So, hopefully some people reading that are 41 also will know what I'm talking about. You CAN be a fan of more than one band. it isn't the NFL. Music isn't about who's better. Now when I hear the opening riff to to "Sweet Child O' Mine", I stop dead in my tracks and just.....enjoy. Same feeling when I hear Kurt (RIP) screaming, "...With the lights out, it's less dangerous ! Here we are now, entertain us!". Why does it make me feel guilty? It really shouldn't. I wanna point out that both Kurt and Axl BOTH were pioneers and paved the way for a lot of other bands. So if this makes me "Fuckin' Crazy", then....."All Apologies"!

Similar story for me, I was introduced to GNR back in 89. Initially didn't like what I heard but like all really great music it gets at you slowly and once it has you, your hooked forever. I never looked at them as glam rockers at all at the time. To me this was different something much deeper and less mainstream which I guess was a reason for my early resistance. Thats why when nirvana came along it was like a natural fit and from a distance as a kid I didn't see a lot of difference in them. There has to me always been people who won't listen to something because it's not cool, too popular or mainstream. They think they are cool and individual but really they are just sheep in a different paddock.
@bestboutgaming32125 жыл бұрын
Kurt criticized everything, Axl was furious at everything. Nirvana wasn't very educated on GNR sadly, they didn't recognized how rebellious Guns was to the scene. In fact GNR gave the industry more trouble than Nirvana, it's common knowledge the label could barely control Axl. Also worth noting both bands were on that same label.

You’re referring to pop music as “today’s music” as though it’s all there is, but most good music doesn’t make it to pop radio and nobody with actual taste in music should rely on pop culture to provide good new music. A lot of people act like there’s no good music anymore when the truth is that their favorite stuff isn’t on the radio and you have to actually search for things you like. Complaining about pop music just means your musical horizon isn’t very broad and you expect others to figure out your taste for you.

It’s pretty simple. Most of the issue was that Kurt didn’t like what Axl stood for. Axl was originally a fan of nirvana, he just started reciprocating eventually. Dave is kind of a fence sitter, so without Kurt there to get him to take a stance, he folded. “a fucking sexist and a racist and a homophobe, and you can’t be on his side and be on our side. After a Strat, the ES335s are my favorite guitars. I've been repairing guitars for almost 20 years and have been fortunate to have held and played 50s and 60s Stats, Les Pauls, 335s…all the greats. Players and guitar geeks are always talking about how great the 50s Les Paul bursts sound and play, and how you can't reproduce their tone with a new guitar, justifiably. But you don't hear about how unique the vintage ES335s sound when compared with later ones , and the differences are MUCH more noticeable, due to the semi-acoustic construction. The same thing goes for the talk about the original PAFs from the late 50s, and while they do sound great in Les Pauls, they truly sound like they were specifically intended for the 335; running through a slightly pushed JTM 45, or a Tweed…🤤 Someone giving you an early 60s ES335 as a thank you is insane. They are IMO the best playing years.

Appetite for Destruction, Lies, Use Your Illusion and Live Era are greater than the entirety of Foo Fighters’ back catalogue. Foo Fighters, The Colour and the Shape and There is Nothing Left to Lose are the very best records Foo Fighters have to offer. One by One is hit and miss, then they jumped the shark with In Your Honour. Got a lot of love for both bands, but they are sadly well past their best (in my opinion). Same for RHCP (my freaks for life) though John Frusciante could have a change of heart at any point and his return would likely redeem them entirely. ✌🏻❤️🤘🏻

Kurt mocked Axl by saying "Hey Axl wanna be godfather to my daughter? Jokingly.. that's stuff you just don't do. I Thought it was in poor taste, granted its the past but Duff took it personally & went after Krist at the MTV awards if my knowledge is correct. Duff being from Seattle got defensive for his fellow band mate even though he knew Kurt & Krist from the Punk days in the 80s in Seattle.. it's a sad day today, Layne & Kurt were lost on this day years apart.. Yesterday I listened to Chinese Democracy from start to finish & still love it!! Since today is Layne & Kurt's anniversary, play AIC & Some Nirvana (I'm not a big Nirvana fan at all) They definitely changed the musical landscape of Rock n roll just like GN'R, AIC, & all the great bands that came before. Another great video guys!!!

I was at the NO on 9 show just a few nights after the VMAs and Kurt and Krist told the whole story to the crowd. They seemed sort of proud of the fact that they had picked a fight with Axl. A G&R fan from the crowd was shouting something at Kurt, so Kurt had him brought up on stage and gave him the mic. The guy said something like everyone should just get along and rock out. Kurt was nice to the guy, but after he left the stage Kurt said "It's true we should all just love one another. Kris? I love you." and then Kurt and Kris sarcastically kissed. It was super awkward but pretty funny, I thought. Also it was a LBGT benefit show basically, and it fit the theme of the whole night (BTW Jello Biafra Rant FTW), so somehow it was poignant and showed that Kurt could be pretty unshy on stage. But the reality of it all was that the guy from the crowd was right. Axl may have represented the worst things about hair metal to all of us wannabe punk rock dorks that day, and he probably deserved to be made fun of just because he was a reported misogynist, and I may have made fun of "welcome to the jungle" almost everyday of my teenage life, but the rest of the hairband guys were no different than us. Just a bunch of angsty drugged up drunk arrogant kids, rocking out to sabbath, trying to get laid. Anyways if you want to hear the version Kurt told that night, just find the bootleg of that show on youtube, and look for: 1:06:22 Kurt and Krist talks about the previous day at MTV Music Awards 1:08:34 "Say it brother" 1:10:07 Kurt and Krist kiss Sorry for the length of this but I just hope people who are just here for the "Tea" might see this and understand that the Nirvana vs G&R drama was funny but useless. I'm with Dave on this one. Slash and Duff, those guys are very talented.
@nelliesilvers12105 жыл бұрын
Izzy Stradlin was a great part of Gn'R aswell but Duff and Slash were definitely the major success of the band. My idolisation of Slash had me teaching myself guitar at a young age and by 11-12, I knew every song off Appetite for Destruction on my guitar spot on. Well....dad taught me around 5 but Slash got me interested in heavier riffs👌🏻.

@lightninghopkins40142 жыл бұрын
@@midasiscariot well that's interesting I guess I mean you could say a lot of bands that are called metal are really just rock and roll bands but when GNR first came out everyone including me put them in a category which was basically a metal band from LA with big hair. Now later on you might be like well they didn't even have big hair but look at the first few videos that came out that were played on MTV and honestly they look a lot like Motley snake (hairspray confirmed). Now remember also that there was about 200 bands on MTV at the time who you all look the same and basically play the same sort of music and almost all of them were from LA and almost all of them had big hair so the term hair metal was born but yeah I would say most of those bands weren't really metal as we Define it today. I think this is very similar actually 2 calling every Seattle band grunge. Being somebody from the Northwest I can tell you that not a single person that played in a band in Seattle wanted to be called a grunge band but it happened. GNR is a great bunch of musicians who played a unique style of rock and roll that still if you hear even 12 seconds of a song you know it's them. So to categorize them based on their first few videos is just a terrible idea and so my 18 year old self apologizes for for making fun of them based on how they look, it has nothing to do with the music they made and the fact that people loved their songs. Again what I'm trying to say is there is no genres in my mind anymore it's just good music and bad music. I think Kurt would have come to that conclusion sometime in his life if he would have had time to grow older and wiser. IMHO Kurt and Axl had more in common then they realized and they probably should have been friends. If the stories I've heard are true then the most of that is Kurt's fault because he tried so hard to remain an outsider even when he was basically the most popular kid in the country. But to be fair Axel wasn't the most likeable guy in the world back then, the spousal abuse,, the lyrics to one in a million,, etc.. even people in his own band didn't like him enough to stick around right? PS slash is one of my fav guitar players ever, I think he's a genius, right up there with page, beck, and clapton. Also I was terribly saddened when Izzy left the band because I think his songwriting was also genius, sensible combination of many styles and influences similar to mine.

Dave Grohl can be hypocrital at times on numerous levels, and you obviously didn't research this in an unbiased manner. Do a search for audio tapes that exist of words exchanged between the men themselves when cameras weren't present and recorded label reprentation would find it hard to push any legalities on public liable, slander or defamation of any sort. Both were misquoted in the media by representation since they had to share a label. If you listen the men, from their own mouths, it was regarding opposing views and actions regarding women, homophibua and abuse. A direct threat was even made on one occession. That's all for people to hear. As I said, please research it and add the audio as an addendum if you want to be impartial in the name of music history. I don't have a KZbin channel, so I have no agenda. I'm not trying to direct your subscribers attention to anyone else's videos. I'm simply referring you to facts as opposed to heresy. Also, one has a documented history of domestic violence. The other was charged with it, but the charges were dropped when the supposed victim admitted to self-inflicted wounds and actually getting physical with him instead. He didn't hurt her in return. There are police reports to back that up as well. I'm not stating names here to be as impartial as possible because music study is a very interesting thing. If you want to present factual content, however, it would be wise to fact check yourself without prejudice. All the best to you...

Kurt didn't hate Axl. I watched a documentary made by BBC when I lived in England years ago and they interviewed Kurt's ex. She said he was obsessed with Appetite. I think Kurt resented how big they became because he was a prototype hipster.
