Hello MEM. What a lovely amount of good food you got for your money this week, so many nice things like the apricots, tin pineapple and sweet treats, as well as practical staple food like the pasta, bread and baked beans, a really good mix of stuff. I love apricots and eat a handful every day as I get horrible leg cramp and dried apricots and fresh bananas contain I think it is potassium that can help prevent cramp or at least reduce it a bit. It is nice to see the garden is starting to give you some food as well, there is nothing nicer than fresh picked food from your own garden. Growing up we had a HUGE garden, thankfully both my parents were keen gardeners, sadly I did not inherit the gardening gene, but so much of the veggies we ate came from that garden. I remember going out with mum to pick or dig the veg we wanted for dinner then washing or cutting them ready for the meal. It always tasted so much nicer than what we got from the shops. Unfortunately I manage to kill just about any plant I get near to, including a cacti that I was told was indestructible, they lied, it was dead within about 10 days. I was very excited to be given those bags of dried apricots, I love them too! That's good to know that they're a good source of potassium. Thanks, yes it's so fun now being able to just walk out to the garden to pick a little bit of basil or a few greens to add to something I'm making! Is definitely so much fresher than store bought. I always enjoy your food hauls and the bonus glimpse into your garden. I'd cook your sausages, chop them and add to the sachet of stroganoff sauce, maybe some veg as well and serve over rice. Stretches the meat component of your meal.

So much you can do with the apricots rehydrate and puree for toast, cereals, smoothies, and with meat, etc. Nice getting the whole pumpkin as it will keep for a bit. Seems a little more to the haul this week.

Very nice haul. I can't get over seeing your vegetable garden when the weather is so lousy here.. They teach you in school it's summer in Australia and winter in Boston but the actual viewing is so much better. Almost unreal.

Asian curry paste is to use a little and mix with oil then brush on chicken let sit and cook or barbecue up. Yum . Taste it for some are very hot.

That was a great haul for $10. You could take the pineapple and cut up little smaller and grate some carrots and add raisins if you like and mix little mayo for a Carrot/Pineapple salad. :) Thanks so much for sharing!!

Really nice haul this week! With pineapple, veggies, and cubing up some of that ham or sausage would make a wonderful Hawaiian fried rice. There are a lot of recipes out there you could find the right one for you. I'm most excited for you and family having that wonderful garden! Nothing better than to have them fresh herbs and veggies and to have that feeling of accomplishment. I look forward seeing your bounty from it! We received 15 inches of snow over the weekend and very cold here in northern lower Michigan, so we have a few more months before we can start to plant a garden here, usually the end of May to the beginning of June.

A thought on how you might use the beets. I usually use pickled beets to make this salad but I don't know why you can't use the plain. It's basically chopped beets, onion, and celery, with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a splash of vinegar. Maybe some sugar if you want it sweeter. It's a nice salad in the hot months. My grandma used to make beet sandwiches. She did grow up in the American depression, those were hard times. Also, those carrots can be made into a carrot salad. I can't get the link to work but Recipe Tin Eats has a French style recipe that is quite good. I believe she's (Nagi) from Australia too. Most recipes use a coleslaw type dressing with raisins and pineapple, which might be a good use for the pineapple you've received. Both are old timey recipes which I find interesting.

Just a tip about the pineapple in juice. You can add the juice to the sauce if it needs to be thinner. You can also add carrot, capsicum, and onion or green beans. I'm not sure what's in the sauce.

So glad you received so much for your $10. and even some meat items. I know with all of your hard work it is so rewarding to be able to harvest and have some fresh items from your garden to add to your meals. In a couple of months I might be able to start getting my garden ready for the garden season, It is 3 degrees right now and snowing but we are looking for some even colder weather in the next 2 weeks, I don't need to go anywhere I am prepared to stay inside it is dangerous cold at this point.

Oh apricots!! There would be a fight in my house for those!! Even though we grow them up the hill and dehydrate extraordinary they just go lol You could also make them stretch further by making apricot balls.... crumbed biscuits (marie biscuits, even the scotch fingers), tin condensed milk, apricots and coconut. Blitz in a blender, roll into balls, roll in coconut....YUM! Or rehydrate in water and make apricot crumble. Or apricot chicken (I can't stand it, but family loves it) with soaked apricots. Beetroot I have a video on my channel for vegan Beetroot mudcake which is delicious and always requested (never tell people what's in it until they beg to know lol). I agree with a comment below about what the cost would be to buy, food is ridiculous right now. On the rare occasion, just for morbid curiosity lol, I have estimated what the cost of a hamper I receive would be. Not to be ungrateful etc, but to see how beneficial they actually are to my family. Garden is looking amazing, well done!

Ooh apricot crumble is nice too. I did see your special beetroot mudcake video, I'm sure it's delicious... hmm now you've got me thinking! Might have to do some cooking with some of the beetroot too perhaps! Yes to go out and buy all the items I received from the supermarket would nearly be 10 to 20 times more price wise than the money I paid, it's such a huge blessing to get!! It really helps improve our diet getting what we do and is so beneficial to my family too. I figure if I can get some cereal and some type of milk in the box each week there's my $10 value back already pretty much and the rest is just a massive bonus!! Oh thanks, it's fun now that we get to start picking things from the garden!

Hi there, We live rurally almost an hour out from Brisbane. The food pantry I go to on Friday's is run by a local church in my area. If you're looking for a cheap food parcel (some may be free also) close to where your clients live please try this link: www.foodbank.org.au Try clicking the "Find Food" button where you can put in their postcode to hopefully find one nearest to where they are situated. These websites might also help: secondbite.org/food-finder/ and www.ozharvest.org/food/receive-food-individuals/ (Sometimes though not all church food pantries are listed I've noticed, so contacting local churches in your area directly or looking up their details online may be useful too.
