Food Bank/Pantry Haul: 04/20/23

Welcome!
We are a homesteading, homeschooling family of 7. Due to recent events (job loss/career change, health issues, rising food costs, etc.) we are having a hard time making ends meet despite our best efforts at frugality. So we are tapping into our local food banks to help us feed our family. Come along as I show you what we are blessed with, what we add to it via grocery store and garden, and how I use it all to nourish our bodies.

I never thought I would be struggling food wise but I´ve come to that the resent month. I wish we had food banks here in Sweden but we don´t. I do need prayers for me and my sister. Please pray for us. I love your videos and learn som much from you. Blessing to you and yours.

My husbands work is getting cut back. So we are checking into food banks. He git a box the other day. It was a blessing from God. It had chicken legs and lots of nice stuff. We found another one which gives out the 3rd Tuesday . Called one and it is based on i come. We couldnt get it. Yiu really git some nice things in your haul. God blees all here.❤➕ ❤

Making friends with the food pantry people often gets goodies or extras that come in handy... I had been volunteering for months as a food pantry volunteer & they gave the extras to us, rather than dump them. So when I lost work & had to be in the regular line, they said come by the latter part of the day & you can take the leftovers as well. It sure came in handy to share with 2 friends who worked & were just over the SNAP line by less than $15 for their families.

We go to the food bank some. It takes so much money now just to live. Grocery prices here in central Alabama are outrageous. The Lord has always taken care of us. I'm so very thankful to our sweet Jesus. Great video. - tammy ⚘⚘

I'd thaw the roast in the fridge a couple of days, and then put it in a big roasting pan in the oven with onions and garlic and taters and carrots with a bit of water or broth on the bottom and cook at 350 in the oven covered or in a self basting roaster bag. Chuck whatever seasoning you have available in with it instead of broth if you want to. Cook till done. Use leftovers for pulled pork.

I cried the first time too especially when they prayed for me. We make decent amount n 3 yrs ago that amount was more than enough now, we r on strict budget n still negative budget 😢

Love your posts and so happy for the way God blesses you. Just wish they had footbanks when I was a child, we were a family of 3boys and then myself with a single mum 70 years ago and remember when the cupboard was bare mum would get some of the chooks wheat wash it well and soak over night and then boil it and that would be breakfast and for our evening meal she would fry off an onion then add the left ovet cook wheat and shredded silver beet from the very poor garden until her next wefare cheque arrived. We were always able to find fruit on abandoned blocks as we live in an area of old orchard properties. Bless you how you feed your family so well. Love from down under.

I would use the pork butt for pulled pork - cook in crockpot and then add bbq sauce. Use the pulled pork in many ways - nachos, tacos, pulled pork and Cole slaw, etc etc.

With that pork, you can pull pork sandwiches, tacos with pulled pork, or use a meat grinder to make grounded pork that you can use just like hamburger meat.

Cook pork roast with potatoes and carrots and next day make pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw yum

The pork shoulder butt you can boil on the stove top for the whole day on low along with whole potatoes, carrots, celery, and onions the reason you keep them whole is because if you don't they will dissolve lol

When you get large meat like that you can bake in oven. You may want to inject with a marinade to flavor the inside. If they sell Tony Casherie in your area they have good flavors and injector comes with it. My mom used to cut onions, bellpeppers, garlic, green onions tiny make suits all over roasts and stuff the holes with her fingers full of the chopped items. Also seasoning the chopped stuff first with salt, pepper. Etc., put a little oil in roasting pan that once the meat starts to cook that mixed with meat juices use to baste it. Cook covered till it pretty much done at least 2hrs at 375 degrees. Than uncovered to brown it hoe ever long it takes. Slice meat has all the good stuffing in it, so flavorful.

Omg it does taste like TV static. I’ve never heard it put into words before but that’s it!!! Personally I think that feeding your chickens is completely appropriate. Even if they didn’t lay eggs, animals have to eat too. God bless 🙏🏼❤️

Pork butt is the best for pulled pork. If you season it neutral like salt and pepper you can use if for carnitas and bbq pulled pork.

With pork butt roast we put in slowcooker all day, shred it and use some for pulled pork sandwiches (bbq pulled pork is great with coleslaw on it). I use some for quesadilas or as pork tacos. Also can freeze some and pull out for easy lunch or dinner bbq pork sandwiches and chips or easy sides. Kids love pickles on side and on sandwiches too. Hope gives couple ideas. Could use some as roast and half as pulled pork too.

So many things you can do with the pork roast.... Caritas (crock pot or instant pot), bbq pork sandwiches, pork stew, spring rolls, cabbage rolls/stuffed, Cuban sandwiches or Medinoche, sweet and sour fried pork just to name a few. Hope it helps

Tomatoe sauce can be made into spaghetti sauce by adding Italian seasoning to taste and frozen

Pork spaghetti, cut it into bite size pieces removing as much fat as possible, cook in large pan in garlic and olive oil, don't be too sparing on them. Add a couple large cans of tomato sauce and some Basil, don't add anything else and let simmer a couple of hours. Can use crock pot. This is so flavorful even with the small amount of ingredients. Meat melts in the mouth 😂😋

I'd do a cola pork roast. Or soda of your choice similar to the coca cola Dr pepper ham. Though will it even fit in the crockpot?

Thank you for another great haul! I also got those same crossiants from our pantry yesterday and I also eat them for breakfast! Smells very good in the toaster heating up btw lol! I always wanted to try keifer but I wasn't sure if I'd like it. Love from Pennsylvania ❤️

Kefir tastes a lot like yogurt. Just thin and drinkable. So if you like yogurt, you'll like kefir.

When i get a big pork roast we serve it with potatoes, carrots onion, celery in the crockpot first night second night we make pot roast burritos take all the things from night before cut it up in small little bits put it all in a tortilla top with cheese and sourcream third night take all leftover meat sometimes i sneak some potatoes in it and cook it in a skillit with taco seasoning and make pork taco's. If there is anything left and your tired of it either can it or freeze it for later use. Great haul hope you have a wonderful week.

Don’t know if you have tried but a lot of people use lentils to stretch taco meat, or just any ground meat. Whatever ratio you or the kiddos are good with. Don’t even notice them in tacos or meatloaf, especially if you have peppers 🫑 and onions 🧅 😋
