I'm on disability benefits in Québec Canada. There's only 1 food bank in the city I live in and because I receive $1400 per month, my rent is $600 and phone is $35 per month, I can't use the food bank at all. This food bank determines your access to it by how much you make and what your expenses are. In Ottawa Ontario, I was making the same amount but my expenses were about $200 or so for rent for me and my girlfriend at the time. I still had access to the food bank in that city. That was before 2016. The policies are probably different today. What's worse is that I saw people who owned BMW's going to the food bank in my current city.

Not only giving food but teaching people to make the most of what they are given would be a good idea. Do people know how to make soup anymore? I mean from broth and vegetables! My mother always had a pot of homemade soup, on the stove, it was potato in winter in summer it was vegitable. Most things were homemade from whatever she could get. People rely too much on packaged food which can be expensive. My mother would take soup she had made to a food kitchen. She would never see anyone go hungry.

Even after all this massive spending of billions of dollars in this country you still have situations like this country. Unfortunately for Canada the standard of living is declining and more and more individuals are going to find themselves in this predicament. The collapse of the Canadian dollar is not helping either. Imported goods are becoming more expensive, especially from the US. Inflation and the ever-increasing cost of living are driving more more people to the food banks. So government you just keep jacking up that carbon tax and putting more and more people into poverty!
