In defense of the waffle: when I lived in Southern Russia, my favorite cafe specialized in waffles. They had sweet waffles with chocolate, marshmallow, caramel, fruit and more, but they also had savory recipes with meat, vegetables and sauces. All the recipes were named after famous people. My fave was the Stephen King, with roast beef, fresh vegetables and blueberry sauce. That cafe rocked, and proved that waffles can deliver more than syrup.
