The two biggest things I took away from this channel is one, dealing with water changes and two feeding. Advice from father fish on just these two topics has totally changed my fish keeping experience. I have a heavily planted 90 gallon community tank and it is absolutely thriving I feed about three times a week and I have just stopped doing regular weekly water changes for the sake of changing water. I figured I'm going to stop doing regular water changes and start testing the water and will only change water if I have to. well it's been over a month now and the water quality is not changing, it's remaining the same as when I started. The tank is just over a year old now and I have to do very little to maintain it, it's as if the tank is almost taking care of itself. When it comes to maintaining my tank the best thing I ever did was listen to advice from father fish and I think it would serve other fish keepers out there well to do the same. Happy fish keeping everyone, Cheers! P.S. If your stressing out over your aquarium then I would advise you to start watching Father Fish's videos. He has provided the answers your looking for and it's free advice to boot. A big Thank You goes out to Father Fish for sharing his wealth of experience, it has been of great value to me and has made me a far better fish keeper and helped me find success in this hobby. And that my friends is my two cents worth.

All I use to feed tiny baby fish is this and it costs nothing and takes almost no effort and has no risk of fowling the water. I keep buckets and tubs outside under the trees and grow moss and algae in them. I Keep a screen over to keep out bigger bugs dragonflies etc and I just put leaves bark and sticks in it. I throw a little grass clippings in now and then and a little bit of flake food but thats not needed I found it gets it going faster. When I have eggs when I am getting fish ready to breed or I have fry I take a clump of moss out of the tub algae and leaves and all stuck to it and throw it straight in the tank with a little bit of mud. Thats it once every week or 2 I put in a bit more or swap it out it has everything growing in it those babies need when they are first hatched for quite a while till they can eat bigger food. That is all I do and it grows them perfectly with no water changes hardly at all. I just have tubs with baby fish and eggs I do that and I start seeing fry in there and they grow and it takes little effort from me. When they look big enough I start giving them some 55% protien powdered up pellets and brine shrimp but I still do the moss from outside even for the breeders because they know it has food in it the babies can eat. It is that easy.

Hello, how are you, I built an aquarium with your method and there are plants in it. I have about 30 fish and before I was very worried about high nitrates. I tested Nitrate one day and to my surprise it was almost in the 0-5 ppm range. For plants' need for NO3, I feed them 3 times a day and I decided not to change the water, I give additional potassium and iron fertilizers. Surprisingly, everything is going well.

Nice video ff. Perhaps you could make a series out of it on how too cultivate different foods. Besides live foods it is i think worth mentioning that some fish need a good bit of algea and/or plant in their diets wich sometimes can be difficult for them to get from the aquarium itself or could be less then desireable. And a few will need to take in some wood.

Father Fish is correct when he says variety in food is not always a good thing. I found that when I fed my Oscars a variety of foods they would only eat their preferred food and leave the others alone. Nowadays I feed 1 staple food, 1 type of shrimp treat twice a week, and then frozen food once a week.

When I do watch a video, I find it informative but also very calming🥰 Your voice sounds pretty soothing with your new equipement👍🏻 Definitely want to improve my tank with live foods and a natural start up with wet leaves and micro organisms from a body of water. I'm regurly eyeing some big mason jars with sealed lids at my volunteering job. But I can't do much without a big net with long handle, ideally it would have a fine graded net. Hello Father Fish. I’m thankful that I found your KZbin channel. Someone in a Fb group, cheered your video about water quality. That you can use vitamin-c in your tap water. We have chlorine in our tap water. I have a 450 Liter aquarium and I change 200 Liter of water every week. I think that I over feeding my fish. They are always hungry, and I don’t want them die. I feed them every morning and evening. In the morning with dry food, and in the evening with frozen food. After this video I must change my food routine. That explains why my filters are so dirty too. Thanks one more time for a excellent video. Daniel from Sweden 🇸🇪😊🙏

Father Fish, thank you for this extremely important and enlightening video. I’ve got a 29 gallon planted deep substrate tank (with lots of leaf litter) with 2 young silver dollars, a young spiny eel, 2 red claw crabs and an African clawed frog. Yesterday as an experiment I dropped in about 2 dozen live worms (primarily in attempt to get their help in improving the substrate). The frog has so far eaten a few, the crabs chopped up a few and ate them, and the eel and silver dollars have been vigorously nibbling on them. Probably only one or two worms actually got into the substrate. The result is that I have about a dozen dead earthworms, some in segments, strewn across the bottom of the tank. The fish are continuing to snack on them. Clearly the experiment was a failure but should I immediately get these deceased worms out of the tank? Or should I let the fish continue to snack on them and let them decompose into the substrate? Am I risking overfeeding and also causing an ammonia spike with their decomposition and extra animal waste?
@FatherFish
@FatherFish Жыл бұрын
Push most of them into the substrate. Leave one or two for nibbling. When you feed worms cut them into bite size pieces so that the entire piece is swallowed.

Do you recommend this same feeding frequency for a full grown Oscar with tank mates?
@FatherFish
@FatherFish 2 ай бұрын
Large fish only require food once a week or less. Their stored fats and slow metabolism allows them to eat occasionally and thrive. During breeding season the food increases and they build breeding material and put on fat.

Use a large net or trap them in their nest. If you can leave them in the tank the babies will have a better chance of surviving.

Where I live commonly available types of dried fish food are dried daphnia, gammarus, shrimp and decapsulated brine shrimp eggs. Is it a good idea to feed fish with these? I am wondering because on the one hand, they are not live, they are dried, and they don't get artificially enriched with additional vitamins, but on the other, they are natural, they are not flakes or pellets. What would you say?
