Good pointers on feeding and how much they need depending on the age of the fish. A lot of folks sometimes look at their fish begging for food and over feed them resulting in nitrate and phosphate issues.

Tricky thing is I have a angel fish community tank. I have rams in there, gouramis, rosaline sharks, Tetras, angelfish and platties. Overall about 30+ fish. I have no idea how many flakes I should put in. I just toss 2 pinches in there and hope for the best lol

Size of the eyes is a great clue! I have just a little problem with one kind of fish: harlequin rasporas! 3 are overweight, 8 are pretty thin. They are way too slow for the rest of the tank (incl different tetras). So these 8 get a bit of an extra treatment. Feeding by hand and lots of live food.

I keep all different kinds of fish in my collection. From large to small. I feed generally once a day and I feed a little bit at a time until food starts making it to the bottom. Young fish I feed twice a day.

Good afternoon sir a couple questions i have a tank 30"X19"X19" and would like to keep mnbuna or peacock cichlid being that you are an expert what would you recommend on the stocking amount for each i would be keeping one or the other in the tank thank you for your advice
@TazawaTanks
@TazawaTanks 3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, that size tank would be better with a dwarf mbuna species like Chindongo Saulosi. It’s is too small for peacocks (unless a small breeding group) and larger mbuna.

Very hard to judge what each fish will eat. I have kept tropical fish for 30 years but I started my 1st African cichlids tank last year. Community tropical fish are pretty easy to judge. But the cichlids are crazy. I think they will eat till they explode. I started out feeding twice a day but cut back to once a day because my nitrates were high. These fish are getting big but still not full grown. Is once a day enough? They are always hungry!

Hey Zenzo I was hoping to get some input on an African Cichlid feeding related "issue" I have a 125g overstocked and in this tank i have a 9" eyebiter and a 10" Morii who share tank boss (they each get 3 feet a side lol) Most of the tank mates are around 6" (some bigger some smaller) and the Eyebiter prefers to be more "alone" so when i drop food in the tank, he basically swims to the opposite end to get away from everyone. He ends up getting significantly less food than the majority of the fish. Do you have any ideas as to how I can get more food to him? Him and my Livingstonii are beasts for feeder foods (i raise them from babies so theyre clean) But this isnt sustainable for me to do often. Any advice would be great. I've thought about using much larger pellets but i feel like i could way over feed the other tank mates as i have a couple that will definitely eat themselves to death if they could.
@TazawaTanks
@TazawaTanks 3 жыл бұрын
Spread the food throughout the tank so that it’s not all in one spot. You can do this by just pouring some out with a scoop along the top.
@robertjohnston25
@robertjohnston25 3 жыл бұрын
@@TazawaTanks I'll give it a better spread. He seems so lazy for food and doesnt eat off the bottom much either. Makes me wonder how he has the energy to be a prick xD

The older the tank is a the less u need to feed like every other day when a tank is like a 1 year old tank. My 15 gallon. Is 6 month old and i feed twice a week. When a matures. It has food we cant see. If u notice fish are pick at the substrate and on plants

I have a army of 14 Corydoras (5 panda, 4 Julii, 5 orange venezuelan) all juveniles, that keep things nice and tidy on the bottom of the tank.. I know I have overfeed a few times, but they get everything cleaned up eventually. Also depends on the individual fish, I have 2 danios that will eat until they are little balloons, the other danios never pig out like that. Gourami can be good cleaners as well.. mine are always searching for food, cleaning sponge filters, plants.ect... I think over feeding is inevitable in the hobby. Sometimes you have that oopps moment of overfeeding and it will throw something off and you'll have to get things back to balanced. Often people just get into a routine and might not realize you have been overfeeding, and some might think well the fish is bigger I should give it more food.

Hi, I was searching around a bit because my dad has a fish tank that is doing really bad. And I want to help. I don't think it fair to the fishes (or the people who has to see the tank) that my dad just set them up and when it isn't doing well he isn't bothered to do anything about it. It is a 100 liter or 26.4 gallon tank. We have at the moment 4 malawi. I think they are full grown. We have only one plant and I had to push for my dad to give them a cave. I think the filter and all the machinery is good. My dad splurged. But he doesn't know how often to feed them and he never changes the water. I read on the food bottle that they are supposed to be fed at least once or twice a day. He feeds them every third day. I told him this is why the ones we have had before died... I think he wants to do it right. But doesn't have the energy to figure out how. So I am. Any tips at all would be helpfull. Thank you! And thanks for the great channel! I am interested in setting up an aquarium once I move out and your channel is making that urge stronger! 💙😊

I suggest feeding once per day, and doing water changes of at least 50% once per week. 100 liters is a pretty small for Malawi cichlids.

I feed my "teenage" plakat betta a lot more than what "they" say to feed. He eats it all - I feed one bite at a time - and is not at all overweight or even near full grown yet. The thing is he is very active and quick - nonstop in his tank as the sole occupant in a 10 gallon all day, doing circles repeatedly around the various plants and decor. His latest crush is his new bacopa caroliniana plant. He also loves his thermometer and 2 specific leaves on his anubias barteri, and all but ignores the resting spots (betta leaf and log). I think plakat bettas generally need to eat a lot more than their very long-finned brothers and sisters. In my other tank, I have 2 juvenile angelfish plus a gang of 19 harlequin rasboras (and 6 otocats), so I have to feed enough for some to drop down for the angels to snack on so they get enough, plus I feed more snails than anything when trying to feed the otocats. In my 20L I'm trying to grow out teeny dwarf emerald danio fry in a breeder basket, so they are getting overfed of course. The adult danios snack on their newly hatched fry all day and night in addition to being fed. And then in tank #4 there's the hungry hungry (and pregnant pregnant) guppies (2F 1M) in quarantine and I'm hoping I feed them enough but not too much, because I've heard horror stories about them overeating!
