Food Plot Chronicles: Planting Corn and Beans with the GENESIS 5!

TAGNBRAG Nation, welcome to another episode of Food Plot Chronicles. This week we the seed is going in the ground as we plant our corn and beans with the NEW GENESIS 5! Our buddy Ryan from ‪@managingdeertv7988‬ is helping us out and we are going to try and get all of our grain planted within the next few days! This is always an exciting time. There's so much anxiousness and anticipation as we plant the fields because you want the best out of you plots especially coming hunting season in the fall. We are dialing it in but always trying to keep an open mind to trying new techniques and new things. This new Genesis 5 is and awesome piece of equipment and it will be cool to see the results as the summer progresses.

With a no till planter why did you till the ground ?

Good question! If you watch our previous video I explain why. Our ground was wet in many areas and we tilled to help dry it out. We have done this in the past and found that it helps a lot. If we plant into wet areas without tilling the seed doesn’t take very well.

Did you plant corn in every grain drill spot, or did you close 2 rows in between?

Great question! We blocked off every other row. I would like to try to block two rows between for bigger row spacing. Might be something we try next year!

How does the light model do in clay soil that has not been disc

Honestly, we just tried this with our buddy and his unit. It worked great on our dirt but it was tilled. I am not sure how it works in clay coil.

If you got the fertilizer in why would it be a problem to get lime in…`? And if you are using no till dry why did you disc/till?

It takes tons of lime to adjust PH. A couple hundred pounds of fertilizer is all we need. So we can use our 3pt broadcast spreader for that. We could use bagged pelletized lime in our spreader sure, but it would take many trips, would be expensive and not quite as effective. We explain in our previous video why we tilled some of our plots.
