World Food Safety Day is celebrated on 7 June every year. It is part of the global awareness strategy of the United Nations, to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks, contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism, and sustainable development.
To this end, FAO and WHO are co-organizing a webinar for Asia and Pacific, on 11 June 2024, 11:30 13:30 Bangkok time on the theme of Food safety: preparing for the unexpected experiences in the Asia-Pacific region.
The objectives of the webinar are to :
1. To raise awareness about unexpected food safety situations and importance of effective food safety emergency response plans in mitigating the impact of foodborne disease outbreaks and other emergencies on public health and the economy;
2. To share knowledge and best practices related to the development, implementation, and management of food safety emergency response, including risk assessment, communication strategies, and coordination mechanisms;
3. To encourage participants to take concrete actions to strengthen food safety emergency preparedness and response in their respective countries or organizations.
