Food Storage: Tuna, Hamburger and Chicken Helpers Vacuum Sealed for Long Term in Food Saver Bags

In this video, we vacuum seal tuna helper, hamburger helper and chicken helper in food saver bags for long term storage, We pack the helpers in a 5 gallon bucket with a gamma seal lid. These are two videos we spliced together to make one. We should expect 5 years food storage on these items with no problems. This is long term food storage on a tight budget, but very effective.

A few of these hamburger helpers ask for milk. You could take your dry instant milk in a baggie to add to your kits. That way your kit is complete, just need water

Also, you could add some canned tuna, beef and chicken to the pail of mixes to complete the meal.

Thank you for your advice regarding sealing the mylar bags that I purchased at LDS . I will use the wool setting. I just didn't want to buy special equipment or borrow the LDS unit they lend out. Great idea. And you're definitely right about those lids. Love those gamma seal lids, but they WILL NOT come back off. Had a heck of a time getting mine on the buckets, not even going to try to take it off! Thanks for sharing, and take care.

We've been putting up a bunch of dried stuff in the foodsaver style bags and have had a bunch of punctured bags from sharp edges. We began placing the items in a generic plastic bag and then into the foodsaver bag. It's helped a bunch.

@TheBonniebeme It really is amazing what the smart preppers prep. Things like powdered peanutbutter, butter and even bacon in a can lol thats so funny. On the flipside it gives me ideas that I can try and work around. Steve is smart and practical you see this prep he has done today would really be a good handout food to family when they have not prepped.

I just wanted to add people can do this no the smallest of budgets!!!!! I bought my 2 food savers from a thrift store for $5 each also I can buy all the tuna or hamburger helpers at the .99 cent store!!!! Tell me who cant do this??

Just so that people know, the gamma seals are NOT airtight. It is NOT for long storage I was told by the seller.

Someone on a budget should be making these mixes from scratch, not buying boxed mixes... and they'd also have the benefit of no 'garbage' preservatives and chemicals like msg.

Well I didn't want to spend $150 on a food saver. So I bought the Seal-a-Meal does the exact same thing as the other brand! Now I ordered the jar attachments from Amazon and purchased a brake bleeder kit! Now I can seal jars and packages. I spent $20 (S-A-M), $24 attachments, $18 for the brake kit! I order my bags from Amazon I get 3 different sizes and get 50 of each size for $25.96!

Great video! In the case of an nuclear EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) all cars will stop working as well. Rumor is that much older cars can handle it. I'm no sure.

This just dawned on me last night, but why store multiples of one or two types of food per bucket? You have to open 4 or 5 buckets to prepare a week of meals. Why not meal plan and put a week’s worth of meals per bucket? That way if time is crucial and you can only grab 4 or 5 buckets, you have everything for 4 or 5 weeks instead of eating hamburger helper 3 meals a day for a month? I’m not intending to be mean or rude, I’m just throwing out a different way of doing things.
