So this video was made 7 yr ago. Year 2020 where can i buy the pom taro root in USA? How they call it in Spanish or other language? Thanks😊

That is going to be quite a challenge, I have to say... I have received this question soooo many times and I can honestly tell you that in all my years of being in the US, I have never been able to find it anywhere. Not even in Florida, with a reasonable Surinamese community... I wish I could offer a solution, but alas... :(
@MyPayneCity4 жыл бұрын
In Spanish it is called yautia amarilla.

Guilliano, you are a STAR...!!! I was also raised in the Caribbean and I asked around until I was blue in the face, LOL and nobody knew anything... SO: THANK YOU! :) I did see many videos here on KZbin and I must say the species that we grow in my country looks somewhat different... The tuber raises to the surface and becomes the stam of the plant and it's that stam that we grate and use. But it may well be the same, that plant family is huuugggeee :) Thanks again, happy new year in advance ;)

Chef Rafi's Awesome World hi what is the name of the tayer to ask for at these markets?
@foodandthesingleguy6 жыл бұрын
The pom tayer is related to a variety of similar looking plants and their roots, but please watch this video to see what the REAL pom tayer actually is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/naLahamvrrp0lbs It's releated to "eddoe", as it's called in certain Caribbean countries or "taro", same thing, different name. Do NOT use "eddoes" to make pom, that is NOT the correct ingredient... These are "eddoes" by the way: www.alamy.com/stock-photo-taro-or-eddoe-corm-colocasia-esculenta-root-vegetable-tropical-potato-60850185.html

@foodandthesingleguy Жыл бұрын

Dank.
@foodandthesingleguy5 жыл бұрын

You can get it at most African or Hispanic markets. It is called "yautia" or "malanga." But I have only ever seen the fresh root sold, never the frozen paste/ powder.

@foodandthesingleguy9 жыл бұрын
+Lasijem Bourdess Hi there, thanks for watching. Probably "taro root", but please keep in mind that the taro family is a large one and you have many different types... The one used for this dish is the long kind that looks like an actual stem of the plant, but in fact it's just the root that grows above ground with the leaves on top ;)

My dear, I'm afraid it will be very hard to come by in the States… Your best bet is to have somebody bring you some when they visit from The Netherlands or Suriname, where it grows in abundance. They do sell it grated and frozend up here in The Netherlands...

This is according to my recollection of how pom was made in the 1960's. With fresh pomtayer en a large nail stuck into it! And of course NO PICALILLY! Picalilly pom is what I find kind of an affront to the dish and I really don't like it.
@foodandthesingleguy3 жыл бұрын
YEEEESSSS, the rusty nail was to make sure that the tayer wouldn't cause that itchy sensation these types of tubers cause most of the time. And picalilly in pom: NOT in our household!! I saw this lady on here who added TERIYAKI SAUCE in her pom, kentjor and soy sauce... I wanted to kill a hoe...!!!
