I think Yuca Is called cassava in English. It’s a root vegetable. My grandmother used to grow them on her farm. There is a sweet cassava and a bitter cassava. The bitter cassava is poisonous, but if you grate it and squeeze out the juice it is safe and is used to make cassava bread.

So don't forget to try Arizmendi for pastries and good coffee when you get to SF. I went to grad school in Berkeley and also lived in Oakland and Arizmendi had two shops over there. They are a collective that was modeled on the group that formed the famous Cheeseboard in the so-called "gourmet ghetto" in Berkeley. I so enjoy watching your travels! I so miss the SF Bay area its people cultures food and the natural beauty!

As someone who remembers going to Grand Central Market w/ my mom 50+ years ago (yeah I'm an old Angeleno), if you wanted Mexican you should have gone to the classic "Roast to Go" which has been open since 1952 serving tacos, burritos, tortas, or my favorite gorditas (think cornmeal fry bread) stuffied with meat, cheese, vegies and home-made sauces from mild to incendiary of all sorts of colors.

Good call to get Mexican and el Salvadoran good at greens febtrap market. If I want Japanese food, LA has it! I live in So Cal so get tons of great Mexican good. But LA has great Salvadoran places too that they don’t have where I live further north in farm country. And if you left at 3pm yo head East yeah, your two hour drive easily can turn into 5hrs. That’s is rush hour snd you were drive with traffic. That’s the crazy thing about LA. You outta know traffic patterns and drive the opposite of where everyone is going. If you had left at 10am you would have made it in two hours. Well thanks for posting your adventures. I always like to see what others discover in my backyard to give me something new to try once Covid is over

If Blue Bottle is your favorite and you ever come to Japan, you should visit Café Bach. Blue Bottle took their knowledge and inspiration from Café Bach in Tokyo. It is really excellent. Also you will find out that what you had in this food market, is by no means a Japanese dish.

I find that the cappuccino is different in the US. I'm from Australia and when i ordered the cappuccino from the US it was just the shot of coffee and a bit of the froth from the milk, personally i didn't like it but i thought it was weird.
