Hi Amith, yes, am aware that the Salem is part of Konganadu and there is perhaps some influence in the food. But the restaurant, and others too in the area insist that that the cuisine is Chettinad style. Nonetheless, nomenclature of the cuisine aside, I do hope you enjoyed the video? Its my town salem. Its specifically salem style dishes. It will be awesome. Name only branded with chettinad. But its salem its like kongu special.

That is what I told Kripal. This is Kongu Cuisine. Chettinaad uses a lot of pepper and coconut. The Kongu cuisine is known for its use of fiery Chillies and tamarind. It is quite pungent and piquant by nature. The use of the tart tamarind balances the pungence of the delicacies and neutralises the flavour.

"Catla dosen't have much flavour"...I think this is an understatement. Its one of the most flavourful fish I believe..and this will definately depend on the age of the fish...and the source from where the fish was obtained. If the fish was bred in farms and its size is less than a few kgs..it will not taste good enough.. But if its a fully grown free range fish from a river ...the taste would be fantastic. I would like to invite you to west bengal to have a taste of free range catla. I'm sure it'll change your opinion.

Hi Food Lover... I'm from Salem... Few suggestions... U should definitely go back to try *Mangala vilas* it's an awesome place for non vegetarian... Esp, go in the evening to try the kothu parotta, egg veech parotta, 555 chicken etc., Actually, There's so much more to try in Salem... Tattu vada set... Paniaram, egg paniaram with the chicken or mutton kulambu... N oh 555 chicken is a starter - try this from Rasikas hotel. Ping me if u wanna know more! 😆 Can't type so much...

Tamils traditionally don't use Basmathi rice for Briyani.. because idestroys the authentic taste the authentic taste and unique flavor of Chettinad Briyani which is even much tastier than Hyderabad Briyani..

Some of the prices are so high for such small portions of any of the dishes. and that too in a mess hotel. The katla fry is Rs. 110!!! Katla is just an ordinary fish. However, all the dishes look mouth watering. And as always, Kripal bhai, you are the master in eloquently describing every dish you show to us, so that they form a vivid picture in our minds.
