When Bengaluru emerged from lockdown months ago, Lokesh and Rajiv, the brothers behind Shivaji Military Hotel took a conscious decision to not reopen dine-in until the situation got better. This meant foregoing a substantial chunk of revenues and relying on takeaway business only, but this was something they were prepared to live with, for the safety of their customers and staff. So when they reopened the eatery to customers a couple of weeks ago, we lost no time in getting there to savour their hugely popular donne biryani and also report on the current experience at this 90-year old culinary institution that has a reputation for being jam packed with customers. We arrived to find certain measures in place, even though in precarious danger of being overrun by its patrons. Thankfully though, the taste of the donne biryani hasn't wavered a bit from the time we tasted it last nearly a year ago. Hope you enjoy this episode, stay safe and happy eating!

A warming, gently-spiced mutton bone broth, the trotters are cleaned well and cooked to melt-in-the-mouth texture.

Chicken Donne Biryani
The biryani is served steaming hot and is impressionable in its persistent aroma and spicy, flavourful fervour laced with green chilli heat. We tasted the donne biryani in takeaway mode where it is packed in foil, but it's not quite the same as when it is ladled onto a donne, a container fashioned of leaves.

The biryani has a slightly smokey tone, and the spices imbued with the weight of the fat and the character of the meat, is rounded in its flavour as opposed to the chicken biryani. The meat is juicy and has absorbed the flavour of the masala rather well. This is the textbook donne biryani, served by this revered culinary institution for the last nine decades.

I felt the entire video which Kripal sir made was a joke now. Just pretending to be rule followers but nothing as such in reality.

Had visited here a few days back, Tried the Mutton Biryani it was not at all worth the hype. Had to wait 1.5hours for my parcel. No proper organization from the management and they are least bothered about the customers.They just know people will flock to their place no matter what, really didn't expect this from such an iconic Biryani place in banglore my rating Mutton biryani-6.5/10 Customer service-0/10

The way you show makes one fall in love with the place and the food. Shivaji military hotel biryani is good, but the place is crowded and not managed well. People come and stand behind you waiting for you to Leave. The attitude of the owners are also like, don't ask me, go find a place yourself. Many ppl who they want are given required attention, so lot of ppl skip the queue and be fine with it. They don't promptly return the change. There is no bill, some number scribbled on paper. The last time I went here, I decided not to go back again.

We visited the place after watching this video & we were so exited to hav biryani. But everything went wrong. That unsystematic crowd , very bad service, no value for the customers. They treat people nothing but beggers. More over the taste of the biryani was not at all worth of money.Decided not to visit again & suggest others plz don't go. Very much disappointed.

Wow that biryani portion size and the meat pieces seem very generous. 1 biryani +1 other dish can be shared happily by two people. I'm from Tamilnadu and this is the main difference I found between restaurants of tamilnadu and Karnataka. The portion size is too small in many popular restaurants in tamilnadu whereas in Karnataka we get big portions
