The UK's MADDEST Butchers | Food Review Club

Today we visited Upton's Of Basset in Southampton, and we did NOT expect to find what we did. This place has everything from a butchers to a deli bar, from a coffee shop to a place to learn knife skills and how to make sushi. This place does it all. The passion we found here was infectious, and the quality of everything we tried completely blew us away. Southampton you should be proud of this place

I’m 27 and been a butcher since I was 13. I’ve worked all the way from the bottom to now being a full time beef boner. I would just like to say a massive Thankyou for showcasing a proper British butchers. People need to understand that a couple of quid extra in a butchers for a product you will remember means much more than putting a couple of quid in a supermarkets pocket. Thanks very much. I might need a trip to Southampton from Yorkshire now 😂

My mate owns a butcher shop. To be fair, the extra couple of quid on a weekly shop is money well spent. The difference in the quality is so noticeable. During the pandemic, when meat was hard to get hold of, his business grew. People that had never been to a butcher before were amazed the meat wasn't wrapped in clingfilm. His business has grown, and the local butcher is gaining popularity again. Not just here, but nationwide. But the butcher in this video is another level again. I will be visiting just for the bacon butty. Top review yet again. Keep up the good work lads.

I have been watching you from the very beginning. This is up there with probably the best review you have done. The owner was amazing great energy him and his wife have. Also the food.....absolute WOW I'm from Sheffield but worked away for 10yrs down Portsmouth. I'm devastated I have only just found out about this place. Exactly what you said, we constantly hear about shops struggling, especially in the current downturn, but if more owners and staff had the passion to provide such top class quality as these guys, more shops would be successful. People will pay for quality.

You need to get yourself to GH Porters, in Newark on Trent. Hands down the best bacon anywhere. Sugar Pit Smoked. Amazing. Been open since 1880, they're struggling at the minute which is a shame

Definitely visiting here next June when I visit the uk for a couple of weeks. Feel like I have to try them cooking a steak I pick out. Hope you go back soon. Off the beaten track a nice find or should I say an exposure!! The weird thing I pass that roundabout very often yet never knew Upton's existed. I luv a decent butchers over crappy supermarket butchery. Seems we are similar in our tastes bud, a good bacon sarnie unbeatable, I always liked green back bacon from the butchers, proper butcher pork pie, pork chop with kidney left in, calves liver, all things you don't get other than in a good butcher shop. The caramel shortcake is a bonus and again one of my faves So, I will def visit this gaff soon that's a given. Keep up the good work matey.

The bacon is often called 'collar bacon' in places that do it, if you want to see if your local butcher does it or not.

Tsskkkkk thick cut streaky bacon. Cooked till the fat renders. Served on garlic bread fried in the bacon fat, with a slice of cheap processed cheese topped by garlic mayo.....oh God yes. Try it and then tell me I'm wrong

The best way to caramelize the bacon is cook it slow it retains its fat brtter and chars better if its done fast it goes crispy snd breaks apaart . The bwcon looked beaut .
