You can fill the jars with odds and sods and just screw it back onto the lid. Back in the day when parents wouldn't complain if their child came back from a school trip with a broken arm, we went on school trips. However, at my school anyone found with paste based sandwiches would be considered far too posh and most likely get a compass shivving. Happy days.

This is brilliant, was only discussing paste sandwiches with my wife the other day! Paste sandwiches continued into the 80's.

As an American child of the 70s I find it fascinating what my British brothers were eating at the time. I distinctly remember lots of peanut butter and jelly, tuna "salad", bologna, and cheese sandwiches in my lunchbox at school.

I still buy these today..my favourite is beef paste a whole jar on 2 pieces of toast..beautiful
