Learn how to make Potatoes Romanoff! About 10 years ago, I took a trip to Las Vegas with a group of food writers, and while I don’t remember much, I do remember learning how to make this incredible potato gratin from Chef John Schenk, at his restaurant, Strip House. Visit foodwishes.blo... for the ingredients, more information, and many, many more video recipes. I really hope you enjoy this amazing Potatoes Romanoff recipe!

The dish is already VERY onion-y. Plus bacon is cheating. Furthermore, this wouldn't be Potatoes Romanoff if you added those things. If you need bacon in it, chances are you chose a bad cheese and/or didn't season it enough.

I'm irish, that is a steamed potato, i like to bake them with bacon grease rubbed on the skin or veggie oil no foil no poking holes in the tater , 425F for 1 hr., skin will be firm & not leathery, optimum temp for the inside is 205-212 F, best baked potato you will eat.

Just made this for Thanksgiving. Some observations FWIW: - It was very tasty - The technique of using baked, shredded potatoes did make the dish a little “lighter” in texture - next time I’d thin the sour cream with a little milk/ half & half to get better distribution throughout the dish - Shallot flavor was barely detectable, even though they were raw. We like onions so I’d probably add 50-100% more next time - I added one 4 ounce jar of diced pimentos, sans juice, because we like them with potatoes. It wasn’t enough so I’d double next time to see how it was - With a bunch of crispy bacon stirred in these would be the most epic hash browns in the history of brown hashes
