Chick can certainly be forgiven for his mistake, but this song was written by Paul McCartney (in their later work, it was usually the Beatle who sang lead who wrote the song). Beatle-nerdiness aside, this is a beautiful tribute, and a lasting testament to Chick's musical genius!

it's very interesting, the difference in body language and style. chick corea is conservative in his expressions and playing, but definitely masterful. he was setting up hiromi for success at every step of the way. hiromi uehara seems ultra playful, keying off chick's playing. she seems daring or even risk taking in her playing style. she's amazingly good, but so different from chick. and she seems to express exactly what she's playing on the keys on her face. her body language adds an additional level to her musical performance IMO. i really like this combo!

This is my all-time favourite Paul McCartney composition! You know, I wish Chick and Hiromi had done their version of Paul McCartney's, credited to Lennon/McCartney, classic "Step Inside Love" which was sadly never recorded by The Beatles. Paul gave it to "Cilla Black" to record and was the theme song to her UK Television show "Cilla" in 1967. "Step Inside Love" is the Jazziest composition Paul McCartney ever wrote. Fortunately, Paul, John and Ringo were recorded doing an impromptu jam on the classic during the "White Album" sessions and released on Anthology 3 in 1996. Man, they should have elbowed "Rocky Raccoon" and instead included "Step Inside Love"!

@@jasonlatour3403 I don't know why anyone would call them "teacher and student" simply because they're two musicians with a large age gap. One wasn't a student of the other, and since each is a world-class musician, I imagine they both found plenty of stimulation and challenge in the ideas fed to them by the other, as one naturally expects of players of that level.
@gilsilberman93852 жыл бұрын
There is definitely a mentor and protege dynamic here, although the relationship wasn't that close. Hiromi was just beginning to mature as a musician here, with fearsome technique and unbounded talent, whereas Corea had a mature voice and effortless confidence. The music here is wonderful, as is the mutual respect and passing of the torch.

"The Fool on the Hill" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1967 EP and album Magical Mystery Tour. It was written and sung by Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon-McCartney partnership. The lyrics describe the titular "fool", a solitary figure who is not understood by others, but is actually wise. McCartney said the idea for the song was inspired by the Dutch design collective the Fool, who derived their name from the tarot card of the same name, and possibly by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

What? I thought that the Fool On The Hill was Jesus Christ And Calvary's Mount. God The Son, paying the ransom for those who fall short of perfection! So what direction do you wanna look? I read The Holy Book, His Story His Victory over death and Hell. He became the Curse, so we could go on taking the Cure and by grace through faith endure until we see Him face to face. When we finish this race on this place of temporal satisfaction. Heavenly Realms Are The Absolute Main Attraction. Being justified by faith in the Last Will and Testament of Jesus Christ is the most productive investment! Bless The Lord O My Soul And Forget Not All His Benefits!

I understand damping the string to get the one sound, but does anyone know how Chick is getting that other "ringing" overtone sound on several of those notes @ 7:20 and the next few seconds (very obvious on the final note)? I can't, for the life of me, figure out how he is doing it. Maybe a damp, and quick lift, or partially damping a sympathetic overtone frequency? Not a sound I've heard anyone else accomplish, to date. Not terribly surprising I hear Chick doing it first.
@rickschaut83664 жыл бұрын
John Sikes, if you dampen the string in just the right place you get harmonics out of the string. Guitar players do this sort of thing rather often.
@MrJdsenior4 жыл бұрын
@@rickschaut8366 Thanks Rick, makes sense, I should have figured this out on my own, but didn't. ;-) Sounds like it could make some pretty raucous sounds on a non-fretted string instrument like the violin (on down) if you aren't really accurate with string stopping placements.
@seanonel11 ай бұрын
Start by damping the strings at the 3rd, 5th and 7th intervals. Don't ask me how, but I'd put money on it that if you can figure out how to get that right, you'll be well on your way. Hopefully I provided you - at the very least - with something to experiment with. I only own a keyboard and a guitar, so I can't say whether it'll work 100%.
