Was about to comment the same thing. Too much is put into individual players winning championships when a pitcher can only control usually two games in a series. His injury history has prolly ruined his chances at the hall but overall he is been a great pitcher when healthy. It would be nice to see him put it all together for a season and take another run at a CY Young award.

Honestly as a nats fan, we all gave him so much grief for not living up to our unrealistic expectations that in 2019 we mostly were hard on him. Everyone seemed to doubt him and we voiced our doubts regularly, and then in the postseason, but most importantly game 6, when we thought he might wuss out because he was sick, he basically told us all collectively to shove it. Which is kinda what we all wanted from him anyway. Man, that was a glorious ending. Worst start in baseball in history, to come back to be the only team in baseball history to win all 4 road games of any playoff series, let alone the WS.

@flyinlikelions
@flyinlikelions 5 жыл бұрын
@@FoolishBaseball How about just the Marlins this year. The trades of Yelich, Ozuna, Stanton, Bour which netted them prospects still only good enough for the 25th ranked farm system coming into this year, plus the young pitching they traded away a few years ago that is now coming up to the bigs shows they have completely botched the last 5 years. Or could do the Tigers collapse from trading Porcello for what eventually turned into Michael Fulmer via Cespedes (ok we'll call that a decent move) and letting Scherzer walk (both former Tigers won Cy Youngs after leaving) trading Verlander for peanuts (maybe a bullpen arm in Franklin Perez) trading JD Martinez after they turned his career around for guys who will never see the big leagues. Trading Justin Upton, again, for guys who will never make it to the show. Trading David Price for Matthew Boyd and Daniel Norris which is the best move they have made. I believe out of all the trades they made only 2 of the guys they got in return are still in our top 10 prospects list Perez and Isaac Paredes while the only guys who have made it so far are Jeimer Candellario who has a robust .692 career OPS and is one of the worst defensive 3B in baseball, Fulmer who had a great first 2 years but is coming off a season where his era was 4.5 and he is currently having Tommy John surgery, and Boyd and Norris who are big league caliber arms but not necessarily building blocks despite Boyds great start this year his 4.5 career era shows otherwise. As a Tigers fan it's been a frustrating time.

Foolish Baseball also when you consider that the league ERA was (IIRC) 4.79 that year, and the American League itself had an ERA of almost 5.00. Pedro and Derek Lowe made the Red Sox’ staff one of the best in the AL...somehow.

Lewis was consistent, if anything. Finished on a 6-2 streak. Gave up 2-4 ER in all but two of his Wins, and gave up quite a few runs in all his NDs. 1997-2003 Pedro: 1400 Innings of 2.20 ERA ball.

Strasburg actually has very similar numbers to Scherzer if you compare them through both of their age 29 seasons, with Strasburg actually just a little bit better. Strasburg went 94-52 with 3.14 ERA, 1444 SO, 1.049 WHIP, and in 1222 IP. Also posted 26.3 WAR. Scherzer went 91-50 with 3.58 ERA, 1321 SO, 1.219 WHIP, in 1239 IP. Sherzer posted a 23.8 WAR. Since turning 30, Sherzer has posted a record of 70-37 with a 2.76 ERA, 1224 SO, 0.945 WHIP, in 949 IP and with a 31.3 WAR (and 2 CYA). Not saying that Scherzer is a HOF lock currently but he's definitely making a case with one great season after another well into his mid 30's. Strasburg definitely has a shot if he can do the same, at least until his current contract is up at the end of 2023. He's already off to another fantastic start this year! I'm rooting for him.

I would say Max Scherzer's: "6× All-Star (2013-2018) 3× Cy Young Award (2013, 2016, 2017) 4× wins leader (2013, 2014, 2016, 2018) 3× NL strikeout leader (2016-2018) Pitched two no-hitters in 2015 (June 20 and October 3) Pitched two immaculate innings (May 14, 2017, and June 5, 2018) Tied MLB record for strikeouts (20) in a 9-inning game (May 11, 2016) Tied MLB record for 250 strikeouts in 5 straight seasons" ...would probably put anyone in the hall of fame, IMO. He already has 100 K's this year too!

@@Tyler-le6pl I agree that Scherzer is probably a Hall of Famer. I don't think he's the best candidate among active pitchers (Kershaw, Verlander), but definitely up there. If he has a few more AS years in him, he's got to be in. His resume isn't worse than Roy Halladay's. I actually did think of Scherzer when asking myself if Strasburg had a shot at the Hall of Fame. The other guy I thought of was Randy Johnson, but I don't think Strasburg has any chance of matching Johnson's relative durability.

Quality content as always foolishbaseball. 👍 side note it was fairly common to hear from many minor league and major league scouts that they thought he was a time bomb when it came to Tommy John. Even people in his own organizations thought it was inevitable. Idk if you'll find articles but I recall speaking with several scouts about it back in the day.

Maybe not an exact answer to your question, but when I think of Strasberg, I’m reminded of how precarious any pitching prospect’s career is, and how we still have no solid metrics or rules of thumb to predict MLB success, much less future arm health. Obviously, no sport has a reliable grip on how to project prospects, but pitchers are among the toughest to project in all of sports. I think he’ll be remembered as an excellent starting pitcher who, in spite of being handled with kid gloves, was diminished by Tommy John early in his career. But Strasberg diminished is still better than the vast majority of pitchers at 100%. Again, your videos are among my favorites in all of KZbin. You really have a talent for putting them together. You get the little things right. Stuff that makes the viewer chuckle to himself while watching, then be unable to recall afterward. At the end, you should’ve let the guy you always make fun begin to give his opinion and then abruptly cut him off and end the video, a-la Meg on Family Guy.

3:46 - I was trying my hardest to remember how I knew Jason Donald. The moment you showed his photo-less profile, I thought "Well, I definitely remember his name; there's no way he was that big of a scrub..." So I looked him up and I see the photo on his Wiki and think "Okay, who the fuck is this? I don't recognize his face, just his name, so how and why the hell do I know it?" And then it hit me. He was the last out of Galarraga's imperfect game. I remember his name only because of the sheer number of times it was mentioned in all the subsequent replays and conversations regarding that play. He achieved next to nothing; the highlight of this man's career was grounding out and being called safe for it.

I remember going to one of his starts when he was in Syracuse. It was the most packed and fun baseball games I've ever been to even with all the major league games I've been to. They packed that stadium that only held 11,000 total, to almost 14,000 that night. Nobody had ever seen a stadium that packed before for a Triple-A game. Strasburg went scoreless that night (that's all I could remember as I was in elementary school when I went). One of the greatest baseball experiences of my life.

Something I literally JUST noticed on baseball reference: he led the NL in starts a few years back, and this past year led the NL in INNINGS PITCHED, and was WS MVP on top of that. Pretty good for a guy who had TJ Surgery early on and was on some serious innings caps early on.
