watching inning 9 of 2016 still gives me anxiety. i feel like the mental factor of facing off against chapman had to have played a factor with how he got away with so many of those sliders. everyone must have been anticipating him to turn up and throw 103 in that situation, despite him being as overworked as he was.
@armadillolover995 жыл бұрын
Even as overworked as he was he was still throwing 98. As much as throwing 103 is more intimidating, 98 is still no joke and much harder than most guys throw even in the modern game where every pitcher’s throwing as hard as they physically can every time out.
@armadillolover995 жыл бұрын
It’s the fact that even if he’s overworked, he’s gonna work one in at 98 or 99 so you still have to keep a look out. Considering how many hangers he was throwing I was surprised he didn’t throw more fastballs and I’m sure Cleveland’s hitters were thinking the same.
@FoolishBaseball5 жыл бұрын
Definitely. I think that's why you see multiple sliders taken for strikes that should have been crushed. Hitters are definitely thinking fastball against him.

Rest of the world all plays the same game that while entertaining has limited valuable skills. Ever consider that sports with a wide variety of athletic skills required is better than being good at one thing while the rest are worthless. Who gives a shit about arm strength and developing strong muscles in the whole body when it’s a game 90% focused on legs. Would you insult any other country for not being obsessive about their fav sport? Because Jesus you just go on baseball videos and complain. And you still lose in the women’s World Cup to a country who doesn’t care about the sport. 1.5 billion people in China prefer ping pong to soccer therefore soccer is stupid and dumb, that’s the dumb fucking mentality you’re pedaling, 1.3 billion Indians prefer cricket therefore soccer is dumb. By population of just a few countries about 3.7 billion people live in countries that care more about another sport than soccer. Ok quick rant on the Luis Gonzalez steroid thing, I don't really buy that he used steroids, he never appeared on any lists, never skipped out on a random test, and the only real evidence is in the form of his stats, and even then it almost makes sense considering how he was a former top prospect but wasn't a full time starter until he reached Arizona. Anyways I'm probably wrong and way too trusting but that's my quick little rant about Gonzo's alleged steroid use.

@aqgpandemic54065 жыл бұрын
Paul WT Ok let's take a look at it In 2001 Gonzo has a war of 7.9, his career high to that point was in 1999 when he had a war of 6.4 (both per baseball reference), that kind of jump doesn't indicate steroid use. And if you look deeper at his stats it doesn't seem that crazy, during his time in Arizona Gonzalez was a player who usually hit around 25-30 homeruns and 40-45 doubles a season. In 2001 yes his homeruns spiked but his doubles dipped, add into that just how much of a hitters year 2001 was (bonds used steroids the entire second half of his career and never approached his hr totals from 2001) and it's not that out of place for a good hitter like Gonzalez to have a year like he did, where the balls were flying farther and he hit more homeruns that would've been doubles. Also there's the Brady Anderson argument being that if he did roid up in 2001 and have that great of a season, why didn't he use roids again? 2001 was his age 33 season so you would think he would keep using roids and launching homeruns for at least a couple more years but in the seasons after 2001 Gonzalez returned to what he averaged in Arizona before 2001. Like I said maybe I'm too trusting but his 2001 season isn't much of statistical outlier to me.

@@aqgpandemic5406 There is also the fact that Chase Field is the second highest elevation ballpark in the country behind Coors Field. Also, Phoenix, Arizona has virtually no humidity for a majority of the summer (recently they added humidors to level the playing field) so baseballs carry much further. Many hits that are one-hops to the wall (common doubles) in other ballparks will go over the fence at Chase Field.

I was born and raised in Arizona.... born in 79 & as i was growing up i was such a fan of baseball i prob sounded like you. As an 8 year old i figured out how to figure out batting average & era by myself & used to make up players in my head and simulate their careers on paper. Weird for a kid to love baseball so much for a kid who didnt have a team. Luckily our cable provider had channels that showed all Mets & Cubs games. Those were the only teams but since 86 Mets won it all i was a huge Daryl Strawberry/Doc Gooden fan. So when we finally got the d-backs i was a driving teen who finally felt complete. And to have D-backs go from shite to best team in the N.L. in 4 short years was quite a miraculous ride. Going to see nearly every Randy Johnson start during his prime was a thrill and honor. This is my favorite world series ever & because i was such a huge baseball fan and stat nerd i knew how doomed the d-backs were in the 9th. And the yankees seemed destined to win with the 9-11 tragedies just happening & Byung Hyung Kim losing several games that looked like easy wins everyone just thought that the Yankees winning was obviously destiny. I was heartbroken going into the 9th that i almost turned the tv off sadly but instead watched the game laying on the couch, sulking. Even i had lost faith at that point. So while i understand my point of view is tainted it will always be the most incredible world series to me.

I'm a Red Sox fan and hell I felt awful for the Yanks because of 9-11. I just felt because of what that city went through I wouldn't mind them getting that chip for the people of NY.

Thanks for making me cry tears of both joy and sadness this video as an indians fan with the davis homerun then with the final out

You're using penultimate incorrectly. Penultimate means second to last.

as an Indians fan I still have to mentally prepare myself to watch anything in regards to Game 7 in 2016. I was outside the ballpark at the fanfest for that game and it hurt like hell. Love your videos! One of my new favorites on YT.

All that needs to be said. Amazing how similar this analysis is with what happened to Chapman in the last two at bats. Chapman was definitely drowning again, but this time he didn't make it out of the pool.

As a Cubs fan, I don't think I ever would have gotten over losing game 7. I really think I may have walked away from baseball. Watching this again, with the comparison of fickle, "if but for the flip of the coin" moments is beyond harrowing.

I was rooting for the Cubs heavily, and all throughout that 9th inning I was pleading through my TV at Maddon to take Chapman out of the game. But that's why Joe is an all-time great manager and I'm not, because he took a risk and it paid off. If Aroldis gives up the run and the Cubs lose, the backlash on Maddon would have been immense.
@williamkoscielniak8204 жыл бұрын
Yes but Maddon also took out the Cubs ace in the 5th inning who was in complete command because he had a pre-dermined "plan" to put in Lester come hell or high water. And immediately two runs scored. Imo that was an idiotic move. Not to mention Chapman just lucked out. Joe Maddon is a great manager but he is mediocre when it comes to X's and O's.

Excuse me, but Penultimate means second to last. Game 6 was the "Penultimate Clash" Game 7 would be the "Ultimate Clash" Edit: Same with the last pitch. Other than that, good video.

Part of the reason I love this channel is not because of the stats. But the stories of those stats.
