According to wikipedia: "Wiseau received enough questions about the [football in tuxes] scene that he decided to address it on a Q&A segment featured on the DVD release; rather than explaining the scene, though, Wiseau only states that playing football without the proper protective equipment is fun and challenging. Greg Sestero has been questioned about the significance of Mark's shaving, though his only response for several years was 'if people only knew.' Sestero describes in The Disaster Artist that Wiseau insisted he shave his beard on-set just so that Wiseau would have an excuse for Johnny to call Mark 'Babyface,' Wiseau's own nickname for Sestero, and that the revealing of beardless Mark would be 'a moment'. Sestero further detailed how the football-in-tuxedos scene was concocted on set by Wiseau, who never explained the significance of the scene to the cast or crew and insisted that the sequence be filmed at the expense of other, relevant scenes." Learning about this movie cracks me up so much xD Tommy Wiseau, what an absolute nut lmfao
@timmckinnon12332 жыл бұрын
There is so much that is wrong with this scene that makes it comedic gold, which I can't stop laughing about: 1. They are wearing tuxedos in this scene for no apparent reason that is given (some argue wedding photographs, but that is never mentioned and those are usually taken on the day of the wedding, so I'm sticking with this point) 2. Danny and Johnny are such close friends that five seconds in to their conversation, they run out of things to say to each other and wait impatiently for a conveniently timed ringing of the doorbell to break the awkward tension and "dialogue" 3. Peter and Mark are such close friends that they don't acknowledge each other's existence outside the house as they both come to the door almost at the exact same time, Mark behind Peter (as Peter closes the door behind him as Mark then rings the doorbell a second afterward lol) 4. Peter comes in and, as proper social etiquette requires, chooses to sit in a chair facing away from his friends, causing his back to be turned from them. 5. Greg Sestero's face at 0:21 shows his realization that simply being involved in this film has ruined any chance of him possibly being taken seriously by anybody for any acting role in the future, but also a sense of relief and calm, knowing that this movie was released in an era before the meme was invented. 6. Wiseau was so passionate about Sestero shaving his facial hair for the purpose of being able to call him "Babyface" in the movie, something that I believe the movie would not have been nearly as impactful without. 7. When Mark starts making chicken noises at Peter, the rest of the "gang" shows their true charisma and acting charm. Johnny joins along with zero enthusiasm, because....Tommy Wiseau. Mark joins along very unexcitedly because, again, he realizes what this movie is doing for his acting career. Also, love the callback to when they were making chicken noises earlier in the film. This moment just ties so much of the movie together, it is so beautiful. 8. As they go out and throw the football around, I love the extra emphasis they have on "wooing" and complimenting each other on being able to catch the ball, just to make sure that we know that this is an enjoyable and fun thing that they are doing, whether it is relevant to whatever plot this movie has, or not. They are basically saying "This is a fun thing that we are doing, and we enjoy this" just in case we had any doubts. 9. "Gee Peter, you're clumsy" - one of the smartest and most original roasts I have ever heard in my life, enough to make Peter retire from his football career and from this whole movie itself. PS: That wasn't Peter saying "That's it, I'm done" from playing football, that was Kyle Vogt, the actor, speaking out of character, referring to being in the movie
@grantcodron97372 жыл бұрын
On point 4 - I believe Johnny asked him to sit there. As per his bizarre theatre of madness he's constructing in this scene. You missed a couple things: 10. Denny and JOhnny staring at each other for a second too long before Peter rings the doorbell. I wonder what was going to happen if the bell didnt ring. 11. Johnny doesnt actually change position throughout the whole scene. His feet are glued to the floor. It's bizarre. 12. It isn't very nice that when Peter walks in they're just like "oh hi, yeah, whatever" but when Greg walks in there's such a kerfuffle about how terrific he looks. I mean on every level it's a crazy moment, but particularly, I feel really bad for Peter.

I just went to a q&a with greg sestero at a screening of the room! apparently the reason why peter's actor (kyle vogt) quit was because he was told that filming was going to take 2 weeks. however, this scene was filmed 4 months in and vogt was absolutely fed up. instead of giving all of his lines to an existing character, tommy wiseau decided to create an entirely new character to take his place (steven). to hire the actor for steven, wiseau and sestero went to multiple parking lots and wiseau gave random people acting prompts such as: "you just won the lottery" and "your sister has turned lesbian." thank you.

No one has really commented on this from what I've seen but the way the conversation ends and Denny just stands at the door 0:05 waiting to open it once Peter rings just amuses me for some reason. No, the movie took some dramatic liberties with that. Tommy had demanded Mark shave the beard he'd had for years, but the TV role was invented. Greg's performance here, especially his barely-trying "CHEEP CHEEP"ing, though, is the product of his extreme frustration at Tommy making him do this.
