It's mad that Neymar not living up to his potential has him retiring with multiple league titles in Spain and France, a Champions League winners medal as one of the best forwards in the world and 400 career goals. Mad, but true

@@King_Cova you say that, but he is still more successful than most players will ever be. 99% of professionals will never win the champions league, and even less will contribute as many goals and assists as Neymar has at the top level. And the quality of those leagues isn't an issue when he has similar output in the champions league. While also seeing players like Bruno Fernandes contributing a goal or an assist per game in Portugal and then carrying those numbers to the Prem. Haaland scoring a goal a game in Norway, then a goal a game in Austria and now a goal a game in Germany and the UCL. The best players perform no matter the league. The way people try to discredit Neymar is ridiculous. He has 625 goals & assists(401 goals/ 224 assists) in 653 career games, is the second most prolific champions league attacker of the 21st century(G/A ratio of 1.12 per 90 minutes a better ratio than Ronaldo(1.08) & Lewa(1.05)), is Brazil’s second highest goal scorer & highest assister, is the first player to ever score 20 goals or more for 2 clubs in the UCL, and has 72 UCL goal contributions (41 goals & 31 assists) in just 70 appearances. He inherited one of the worst Brazil squad’s & doesn’t have the luxury of playing with several superstars like the squad from 2002 World Cup(Goals for Brazil since Neymar's debut: Neymar 70, Coutinho, Jesus 18, Firmino 17, Fred 14). He has fractured his Metatarsal, ruptured his ankle ligaments multiple times, and had adductor problems while in France ALONE(You can’t bounce back from career threatening injuries as efficiently & quickly as he has without some sort of elite work ethic). He’s the most fouled player in Europe’s top 5 leagues, gets consistently kicked during his matches, and barely gets any protection from officials so him being injured during pivotal moments in the season isn’t surprising in the slightest. Also, people continue to critique his professionalism but all his coaches & teammates have said he’s a hard worker & humble and he has a personal trainer he trains with at home. I hope he wins the World Cup with Brazil or a UCL with PSG so people can stop discrediting him.

When comparing players across different eras it’s always important to use context. •When Ronaldinho joined Barcelona they had just finished 6th in the league and were going nowhere . He turned things around and made them relevant and exciting in the 21st century. When Neymar joined Barcelona they had just won the league by 100 points and had been the best or second best team on the planet. Obviously Neymar can now win more trophies and get better stats because players in this era are basically guaranteed trophies if they play for super elite clubs (Barca,Psg,Bayern etc...)

Neymar himself actually says he dives to prevent injury. He supposedly throws himself in the air so that the contact will have a much smaller chance of affecting his performance later, which he claims he learned from his dad. My take on Neymar failing to live up to the expectations set for him is as follows: Even way back as 2010, all of the Brazilian mainstream media was putting him in a pedestal claiming that he's the second coming of Pele. They're both black young star players from Santos that rose from poverty, the parallels were all over the place, people treated him like a rockstar even before he went to Europe. The Brazilian national squad manager for the 2010 world cup got blasted by the media for not taking Neymar even though he was still an underage kid playing the Brazilian league. This alone should tell you the kind of treatment he got here. It is well known that this kind of treatment may very well fuck with the minds of kids. He was carrying an entire nation's expectations on his back at a very young age. I do believe that, if he hadn't been treated like this back in those days, maybe he would've achieved his full potential and would be standing side by side with Messi nowadays.

I’m Brazilian, and this is absolutely true. Most people around the world that made those memes about Neymar diving doesn’t actually know a thing about football, they are just common specs. Neymar is dealing with agressions after agressions, kicks after kicks, and the referee most times ignores it, or don’t give cards. It’s insane. People that don’t watch football can’t see what is a real fault and what it isn’t. The teams in ligue one do a kind of rotation of players to beat on him. Their strategy is literally to beat another player. FIFA even tried to make rules about this fault rotation thing, but it wasn’t efficient. We are playing football or a sort of fight club sport? Wtf is that, I don’t see the media and the people talking about this. Neymar broke his bones 3 times after being kicked in faults. It’s ridiculous.

Neymar got taken out by a knee in one WC and people are blaming him for "diving" in the next WC? Helpless defenders will rather fck your shit up, than letting you get past them. "Diving" is a form of protection, at least to some degree. Sometimes you just have to exaggerate and point out that your opponent is doing something illegal, cause they know very well how to hide it. It also puts more fear into the defenders of trying something illegal.

As a brazilian, i think neymar has not been so good as he was once, in the old days we could see the true happiness in his eyes while he was playing, today he looks kinda sad always get some injury, however now we are going to have the world cup he's tired of the people dissing him, so it's the perfect time for him to prove his worth and make the brazilians happy again, he always loved football but never had a commitment maybe now he's older and more mature he can do better Edit: Yeah he couldn't make it, this is a sad moment, the easiest world cup (with all the respect to the others nations) and Brazil disappointed us again. Even Neymar giving his max for his team on this last match against Croatia, and scoring the goal that inclusive put him as the top 1 scorer for Brazil next to Pelé , the biggest part of his team thought they already had won it (specially Fred, who i already hated before, from now on i hate even more), then they conceded a goal with 4 min to go in a fool mistake which Fred tries to dribble and loses the ball, they only had 1 mission: Defend. Going to the penalty shootout which was terrible too, neymar should've beat the penalty first (the best in the world at this), usually the first penalty is the most important, because it basically sets the rest of the penalty shootout. Most people in Brazil are blaming the manager (Tite) for the defeat, alright, he made some mistakes like: putting Daniel Alves in the team and choosing not the right shooters for the penalty shootout. But i don't see him as the main villain, it was a group of bad things which happened that resulted the defeat. And just like that finishes neymar last world cup, it doesn't decrease him as a player, actually he is as good as any other famous brazilian player. Life is the exact same thing, some times we win and some times we don't, it is the way it is.

I still have hope in neymar Jr because the thing is: he's young. like he really isn't that old and I feel like everyone is trying to predict his future based on everything that has happened in the past and people are making all these bold statements and having all these expectations too soon. manz just turned 30. I say I it's impressive how much he's accomplished throughout his career especially considering the fact that he was only in his 20s, yes he is immature and unprofessional at times, but then again,he was young. and it also depends on his cultural background, I've noticed the way he acts is a hugee signification of where he is from and you can sort of "see" the Brazilian in him. people are different and people come from different backgrounds, we cannot slander someone for acting a certain way, correct them yes, but not slander (than again this is social media, there will always be critics) but I've noticed the lately (especially this world cup) he has handled things like getting tackled quite well (he was still falling every 2 minutes when he was playing against Serbia but if you actually watched the game, then you can tell none of it was for show and he was actually being targeted that game.) but even with that the way he handed it resembles abit of character development. could this mean he's maturing? and also can we talk about how marvelous he is when it comes to recovering from injuries. everybody always talks about how he's always injured but nobody mentions how GOOD he is at recovering and getting back on his feet. like a recent example was his injury this wc. he was expected to miss 2 games but by the time they had to vs Korea he was healed and showed no signs of struggle. not to mention his 2014 injury,he was expected to never be able to play/ walk again, he was nearly paralyzed and yet he's still going strong today (neymar was phenomenal during 2014 wc though, I wonder how differently things would've turned out if it wasn't for that injury) from what I can tell, neymar is nothing short of a miracle waiting to happen. if he decides to turn things around for the better than I can confidently say he will reach his full potential, I feel neymar isn't a case of someone who will burn out before they reach their potential. players like Messi, Ronaldo, Maradona etc. were only REALLY considered soccer legends and icons by the majority during their 30s. imagine neymar once he reaches Messi or ronaldos age. he will be great I just know it. my point is, neymar has so much potential and I feel like maybe his mentality is dragging him down. he definitely has alot to re evaluate and he has time to do so(not alot, but it's there) he's already created such a legacy for himself by the time he reached 30 years old alr one of the best players in the whole world, undoubtedly. say what you want about him, but that's impressive and there's still so much more he can accomplish if he just pushes harder and as much as I was hoping for Brazil to win this wc, I feel like this lose could've been the push he needed (that's if he decides to be serious instead of giving up/retiring ) knowing him, he will take this outcome and learn from it, make it seem asif it was for the better. things like this, loses, criticism, hate only make neymar stronger, better. that's one thing I've noticed. neymar will be one of the greatest, he'll achieve so much and once he does, people will finally credit him/take him more seriously.

30 is old for a footballer, and even more so for Brazilians. Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaká, Rivaldo etc were all pretty much done by the time they turned 30. Neymar also said he wanted 2022 to be his last world cup because he doesn't think he can mentally handle another WC. He might change his mind, Messi and CR7 have proven you can be fit way past 30 and a lot of players are doing it more and more, but it's still uncommon for someone to remain at the top past that age.
@ashleychileshe4466
@ashleychileshe4466 Жыл бұрын
@@BIadelores that would only be relevant if neymar was an avarage player, which he isn't. Those Brazilian players are also notorious for having relatively short primes and a steep decline in quality nearing 30s, thats why they retired. Meanwhile others like Salah, Kane, Van dijk etc didn't start peaking until like 27-30. Benz, Modric, Lewa are other examples of this. He's still playing at high level and if he's lucky he can still win another ucl, Copa America, and even world cup if he wants to. Especially with cr7 and Messi reaching the end of their careers. Only thing is if he will be able to continue at high level with the amount of injuries and hate he gets (both mental and physical toll) . Hes young but he already feels like he's had enough of football because of this.

It's hard to explain but I will try to share how I see the Neymar conundrum. Neymar has always come across as a hard-to-connect-with guy. Maybe it's his insane riches or the fact that he's a Hollywood-type footballer in the age of social media. or maybe it's a combination of some other factors but it seems so easy and fashionable for the internet to bully and hate him whereas the opposite was the case for Ronaldinho. Ronaldinho had natural charisma, an infectious smile, and a childlike aura to how he played the game and had maximum fun doing it. He literally made people falling love with football as a sport. Neymar's power plays, privileged tantrums, diving, and his domineering annoying dad just get on people's nerves and they lash out.

That why there's a saying that "NEVER MIX BUSINESS WITH FAMILY". His father just wants to make money out of him. He sees him as a brand and not as a son. Like if someone else was his manager, he himself or his close ones could tell him if that person was being toxic, he could fire him but how are you gonna fire your Dad dude. He won't even realize if his father is doing something shady. Also his friend circle is so toxic. They all stay at his home. All holidays and parties are organized by him. No one cares if his friends and family are partying everyday or hooking up every other day because they are not the ones being paid millions of dollars to stay healthy and play on that pitch, Neymar is. He has no sense of accountability. Like obviously you can enjoy your life but missing games to attend parties of family members is so selfish and ignorant. Like I am pretty sure if he was doing a regular job then these birthdays wouldn't have mattered to him that much, isn't it?

Excellent video as always! On 09/10 I was working in a shop in Brazil, and there's a very famous magazine there called Veja, and the cover was Neymar with a Crowd and the title: "The King of Football"! Yeah, the media constantly pushed Neymar as the most outstanding player after Pelé. So, you can imagine the amount of pressure that he always needs to live up for. For me, one of the significant points is the cultural background, and this matters a lot! You can take Messi as an example because he is and always will be compared to Maradona (and Maradona is a god in Argentina). Still, different from him, Neymar was raised, like many others greatest Brazilian players (Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Romario, and many others), in a totally different culture like Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. You can see traces of all of the things that happen in Neymar's lives in their lives, maybe in other shapes of form, but they are there. Maybe if he had the cultural background like Iniesta and Xavi, he would be the greatest player of all ... possibly. But will he be the showman that we see on the pitch? I don't know. Everything he has as a reference in his life helped build his style inside and outside the pitch. Anyways, people are different! The problem is the expectations we all put on him, not what he delivered, and If you follow his career, you'll expect nothing other than what happened.

I feel this was a well round argumentative point that you have discussed. Whilst it is very hard to argue and I whole heartedly agree with you. I still feel that Neymar could have gone to the same levels as Ronaldo and Messi. They have dedicated their time and efforts through training, Focus on objectives and healthier lifestyle than Neymar, who would rather go to his sister party than play. Talent will get you so far.. and Neymar has a bag full of it.. but hard work gets you so much further! Can we honestly say Neymar was focused on what he wanted to achieve in football 100% of the time..? That is the real question that needs to be asked. We can all agree that for Messi and Ronaldo.. yes but we could not safely say the same for Neymar! Also with the emergence of Harlland and Mbappe, starting to surpass him (the latter his own team mate), Its hards to real say that Neymar will ever achieve his goals of being the worlds best.

I think it kinda unfair to assume that Neymar hadn't been 100% focused on football. The man has achieved a lot from a very very young age and has bounced back from injuries or failures multiple times. I assume the problem arises that we compare him and expect the same as from 2 GOAT's who have been on the very top for around 15(!!!!!) years.

@@robertsbarvedis2566 I feel my point was missed.. its not about comparing him to Ronaldo or Messi. It's about him realising his full potential and fulfilling it. By his own admission he went their to move out of Messi shadow, but somehow has end up in Mbappe's instead.

I feel like our generation is a bit spoiled due to having both Messi and CR7 playing at the same time, we can afford to criticize a generational talent because we are comparing Neymar to two players with the talent and determination seen every 50 years or maybe even longer, before those two we had Pelé and Maradona but if you look back their primes were so long ago, since then did we really have players of the same caliber until Messi and CR7? Maybe we had some with extremely high primes (Ronaldinho as an example) but none lasted so long like those two and i doubt Mbappe and Haaland will be able to do so, maybe it's just me but i'd rather appreciate their talents while they're still around rather than criticize them for what they could've been since it won't change anything.

Great vid ! Neymar is a gifted player and has the highest skill level I’ve ever seen. I think he draws hard fouls because of his showboating and making defenders look like clumsy, foolish oafs. One factor that make Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi the greatest, is their durability and consistency. Neymar consistently misses too many games due to injury which kept him from achieving his potential. The tidbit about Neymar and his average distance run, being the highest among all strikers is impressive and a fact I was completely unaware of, which increases my respect. While I dislike Neymar’s, sometimes questionable, attitude and ridiculous flopping, I have total respect for his skills and his accomplishments.

I'm Brazilian, and I believe the main reason why Neymar gets so much hate revolves around what imho he showed to be his lack of emotional inteligence along how much he fails to take responsability and leadership both in/out the pitch. By this point, his talent is pretty much unquestionable; however, this fact just raises the question as to why He failed to be the 'current gen Pelé', and the video pointed out what I believe to be the main reason: The consecutive fails on both UCL and World Cup when he was expected to be the main protagonist of his respective squads. Except for 2011 Libertadores for Santos, not only he could not replicate that level of individual success, but He also seems to crumble while under pressure. (Such as 22' FWC, where he refused to take on the first penalty shoot-out a few minutes after Croatias equalizer, and the times PSG got eliminated on the UCL round of 16's). So far, He has not shown to be able to carry his squad over tough moments, such as Messi and CR7 had been doing, or likes such as Pele/Maradona had done in the past on situations where he got to react to a negative score. Altough I don't agree with the 'diver' fame, I see it as pretty much of a backlash from both the frustration of those who raises expectations upon Neymar winning a WC/UCL 'by himself' and those that dislike his playstyle in favor of a more pragmatic/mind-focused centered one. Outside the pitch, Neymar is actually one of the first top players of a generation that stays connected 24/7 to the internet. And with that, comes the very notorius fact that he portrays himself very poorly: Unnecessary political arguments, over the top party displaying, egocentrical behaviour in general. And again, I believe that would not be an issue had he won something for Brazil's squad. Neymar (and the people around him) seems to be unable to accept criticism, even tho they had not delivered much for the national team. The likes of Romario/Ronaldo/Adriano/Ronaldinho for example, might have done worse than him on that regard (given the generational differences), but winning continental/world titles as protagonists changes the whole picture.

Even though he didn't reach exactly his potential (maybe only when you look at individual prizes and longevity), he was still an insanely good footballer. It's not an absurd to say that he was better than Ronaldinho and that he is probably in the top 5 best players in his position (left winger) of all time. I mean, he still has better numbers than CR7 did when he was 30yo too, and in this century only 2 players has more Goals+Assists/Game: their name are Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi... He is unfortunate to be fighting against these guys, he would be dominant star and win a ballon d'or in almost any other era with this kind of performances. At 2017/18 was truly his peak technically speaking, he was still fast, skillful and a good goalscoring like he always was, but during this period he started to showcase some incredible vision and playmaking skills, making him a REAL complete player, surely a better one than he was at Barcelona, but he was doing it in the french league and no one cares about it. Then injuries came and he started to lose the goalscoring touch and his pace, even though his playmaking was getting even better.

I give my perspective about Neymar: Neymar for me is the second best entertainer I’ve ever seen after Ronaldinho. His skills,goals,celebrations,games are just fun & impressive to watch. I remember the national game against Argentina in 2016 when he bodied just everybody from the Argentina squad. Even Messi couldn’t handle him. Like it wasn’t funny to me. My perspective of why he leaved Barça is bcs he wanted to show the ppl that he can be the boss without Messi & Suarez. Bcs he doesn’t wanted to be the shadow of Messi. I feel like ppl are so much impulsive discrediting when ppl forget of what he archived. He was a Top 10 player of the Ballon’dor as a Santos player. He carried the whole Brazil to the 2013 Confed Cup & their first Olympia ever in 2016. He putted PSG for the first in time in a CL Final in 2020. He played in Copa America Final in 2021 & the Argentinas were so fucking dirty to him. And I’m sure ppl wouldn’t say that his career failed if he won the CL with & the Copa while he won already for Brazil. Injuries were his reasons tho. For all ppl saying „He should stay at Barça. He would def win a Ballon’dor“ i say maybe. But only bcs of Suarez & especially Messi. He would be shadowed just like Xavi & Iniesta. Bcs after 2015 Barça couldn’t get it done to win more CL trophies. In terms of „plays“ they’re the best trios but by „success“ no. So in my perspective Neymar‘s career isn’t failed. He’s just discredited bcs he leaved Barça

First word he mentioned was "flair". You have brilliant dribblers like Messi, Maradona, Nazario and even Robben, but when you hear flair you know it's gonna be about someone aesthetically special, that entertains a lot maybe at the expense of efficiency. And that's precisely Ronaldinho.

Neymar is the only player in football history where people taint his legacy and call him not good enough for... *checks notes*... not being as good, or better than, Messi and Ronaldo. These expectations are not put on Zidane, Ronaldinho, or any other past legends, only Neymar. It is extremely unfair.

Your numbers are correct. They hide an important point. Nemam startet playing when footbal overall started being more offensive. So for example they changed the ball itself. The new one swerves left and right making it much easier to score. They changed the offside rule to me more lenient. They make every harder tackle a yellow card. They helped big clubs in winning games and pushed Barca heavily helping them win and win more and more. Ronaldihno was objectively faster, stronger,more skillful and has more flair. And he doesn't dive

The stats don't say it the attitude doesn't say it and Messi is living proof that neymar isn't the best, but there's always a part of me that can't get the way neymar plays out of my head and the fact that he was always just a tragic prodigy that will never reach the greatest of all times

When Brazil had the stacked team so did the others. France, Italy, Germany, Argentina, England, even Portugal had 2 legends and unfortunately a young cr7 in their team. Also Dinho competed against R9, Zidane, Henry, nedved, etc.

One of my coaches used to say “if you’re going to foul, make sure they feel it” I’m sure there have been locker room conversations about his diving, and that if they’re going to give up a foul against Neymar, he should “feel it”.

People don't like him because they assimilate the fake dives. But still he is the best player, smart and control the match. He is weaker than the legendary players, his bodytype don't let him be stronger and people don't understand this. Criticized for something that it's impossible to achieve, but his way of playing reminds me Pelé, that also get hunted and injured, the difference was the team, much weaker and very different from Pelé era.

I'm brazilian and I'm gonna answer the question made on the video: How do you feel about the national team? A: I think Neymar should play as one of many great players we have, but when he's on the pitch it seems the team plays for him and it doesn't work properly. He's too famous, then the media makes people think he's our savior among common players, but look how good our team plays without him. Vini Jr, Antony and Rodrygo are awesome and they need space to grow. It seems it's all about money and fame when Neymar is there and not about football. Guess we will fall in the semi finals one more time...

I'm Brazilian, and although there are lots of people who show support and cheers for him, there are also lots of people who overcriticize him, and there are some reasons for that. 1. The reputation for him being a diver and falling for nothing, mentioned at the video. 2. His style and marketing, he looks flashy and wins millions over media and propaganda, so it was created a narrative that he cares more about media and appearence than soccer itself. 3. Politcs. Before the worldcup this year, there was an incredible polarized election betwen Lula(for the left) and Bolsonaro(for the right). Neymar declared over social media his support for Bolsonaro and there was a lot of bad repercution about that, lots of influencers and famous people criticized him for his political views. Bolsonaro is also known for his management of the country during the pandemics (being against the lockdown and delaying vacines) and his controversial statements about lots of topics like women, gay people, enviroment and etc... so some people from the left took every oportunity to criticize Neymar's football and diminish his acomplishments ( currently, I lean more towards the political left, but i also recognize that this is unfair). 4. The huge expctation over him(mentioned in the video)and the legacy of the nation, since soccer is our main sport and simbol of our culture.

Im from brazil and also happen to be a santos fan, so i watched neymar's whole ascension from game one, also with that ganso and robinho squad of 2010. So my thoughts on the currently seleção are that neymar is becoming a veteran that will hopefully pass the torch to the new generation, players that are ascending such as Vini Jr, Antony, Rodrygo, Rafinha, Martinelli and the likes. The surge of those players was badly needed to take pressure off neymar and not center the game around him as much. Also the reappearance of philipe coutinho came on good time. With that many young winged players, neymar is shifting towards a false 9 position. So people are actually quite hopeful for good campaign in the world cup, maybe bring that six-time champion title home. Apart from that, defense is looking solid, which is Tite's (brazilian coach) high point, with marquinhos and thiago silva, plus casemiro in the midfield. Right back and left back positions are the biggest cause of concern but not that bad tbh

Give Neymar his flowers, yeah sure maybe he could have achieved more at this point in his career but let's face it not everyone will play for 20 years and win 40+ trophies or win multiple ballon dors. More often than not Brazilians play football to escape poverty while winning a couple of trophies and expressing themselves. Even Ronaldinho didn't need to have a 10 year peak because he achieved everything he needed to achieve and everything else after that was a bonus. Its not because they don't take their careers seriously, it's just that at the end of the day we are motivated by different things as human beings and let's face it whatever Neymar does he will always be discredited somehow.

I think Neymar's just vibing and chilling. He doesn't care to be the best, really - if he wanted to, he could have by simply disciplining himself more and intensifying his worth ethic. He's got natural talent, and is happy working with that and most importantly, enjoying his life outside football and overall. When you see him on the pitch, he's more vibing than trying. He's only trying insofar as that's his job. I do agree that PSG was a poor choice, though. I love watching Neymar. I hope he wins the WC 2022.

It’s a bittersweet thing to analyze his career because he really did won everything quite quickly in Europe but got no recognition that equaled his contribution; as if he was freeloading the coattails of Messi and that wasn’t the case. Brazil as a team has regressed and it really is not his fault imho. Going to PSG with an incredible weak front office was counterproductive also. It was kind of an experiment to see if he could lead a whole club kinda like Messi did, and he failed in the same way Barça started to fail with everything going around Messi. That model almost never works and Neymar confirmed it the hard way. He’s a wonderful player, but he’s burned out imho. The minute he is at a great level people start to over praise him, and the second he gets fouled or has a bad day he’s pulverized. It has to be exhausting
