Alan Shields Hamilton South Lanarkshire Scotland. I remember seeing pictures in a Votbal International article in 1999 about Het Kasteel ( The Castle ) looking it up just now the article must have been written just after it was refurbished in 1999. From what I have seen on T.V Het Kasteel looks far better from the outside than from the stands inside but it is one of my favourite Stadiums in would football I am a major fan of stadiums that have red brick architecture I am not a big fan of Stadiums that are all steel & glass I prefer The Old School look & feel Stadiums but Het Kasteel is proof that you can combine both. I have know of Sparta & Excelsior for decades. Personally I would say Faynoord are buy far the biggest Rotterdam club Then Sparta would have the second biggest fanbase Sparta are based in the West End of Rotterdam.. Excelsior are a feeder club & farm club for Feyenoord with players often moving between both clubs so it should come as little surprise to anyone that Van Persie played for Excelsior before going to Feyenoord. I love Ajax but Sparta is a club I have a soft spot for as are Vitesse Arnhem & Herrenven. There is a story about Sparta & Ajax that go's back to the early days of both clubs & in that story is the reason Ajax play in there famous home kit they have till this day. When Ajax first played Sparta both clubs had identical kits & no clubs had away kits that was just not a thing back then so to cut a long story short Ajax had to change to the home kits they have now a days The full story is in the book Ajax, the Dutch, the War. Keep Safe Sam & Hup Holland. Looking forward to some Bundesliga content aswell.

Sam, that was interesting to watch even though things didn't go according to plan. Dutch football didn't bevcome fully professional until the mid-1960s which may explain why an amateur team won so many league titles. You're in a great part of Europe for groundhopping: very good public transport, distances aren't too great and the standard of football is pretty high. My brother lives in Cannes and the local club AS Cannes had a young player called Zidane. Whatever happened to him? Looking forward to your German content.

I'm an Excelsior fan who lives in Scotland. I got to your channel through your Scottish videos, in Scotland I follow my local team Lochee United. I actually saw you at the Auchinleck Talbot v Hearts cup game at the start of the year but you were very busy at that moment and later I missed you, otherwise I'd have said hi! Thanks for your video, lovely to see my club on your channel. In terms of support we're quite a small club, really just a big family club. Some great people work at the club who have gone to the club from a very young age so I'm not surprised they let you in. As we're a small club, they are very approachable as most people know each other. We've played at that ground from our foundation in 1902, although it's obviously been rebuilt since (we've had spells away but always returned). My family originally comes from Kralingen, the part of Rotterdam where Excelsior are from. I've been a season ticket holder until I emigrated. If you'd like to see other historic grounds in the country, I'd thoroughly recommend DHC in Delft. Now 6th tier, but a former professional club and a beautiful historic ground. Currently their capacity is 8K, it used to be much more but at this level they already never get close to 8K.

Mate, I got something you might want to visit sometime. Here in the Netherlands we got 2 big amateur derbies, both played in the Tweede Divisie (third tier). Katwijkse Derby between VV Katwijk and KVV Quick Boys and to me the most interesting one to me; the Spakenburgse Derby, with their 'stadiums' only ~50 meters apart, both derbies have a very fierce rivalry for that tier in Dutch football. Would love to see you go there someday!

I am a Feyenoord fan who lives in England. Due to the fact that Sparta didn’t like Feyenoord much as they were the second team (Sparta fans often call Ajax the club of the Netherlands) Feyenoord previously held ties with Excelsior and used it for scouting players like van Persie and also loaning promising talents to the club.

As a Sparta Rotterdam fan I'm so bummed you didn't get into the stadium. I would love to see a video about the stadium. There is also a little museum in the Castle with the prizes and some shirt worn by famous players. You've got to read about Bok de Korver if you're going to the stadium, one of the most famous players of Sparta in the beginning of the 20th century. I would love to tell you a lot more about the club, but that will make this comment a bit too long. Oh, and just so you know, Excelsior is the third club of Rotterdam, but that's maybe up for debate. At Sparta we always sing that we're THE club of Rotterdam.

Cracking video, I went to Sparta 3 years ago for a game and back there soon for another. The floodlights are outside the stadium maybe is due to the redevelopment of the stadium about 20 years ago. It was turned around 90 degrees, the castle exterior that now runs down the side, was behind the goal. Cracking atmosphere in the ground during a game. As an aside, Sparta don't wear squad numbers or have names on their shirts, they use 1-11 as they prefer tradition.

Damn, I loved this video! I’m a Dutch Australian, residing in Japan for the last 27 years. My Dutch heritage brought soccer into my life, but in Australia there was no team to identify with… My move to Japan gave me a deep affiliation with a local J-League club called Urawa Reds. The star of that team at the time, Shinji Ono, was transferred to Feyenoord and contributed to a number of excellent seasons. Shinji Ono gave me at last a Dutch team to support. I knew Excelsior were in the Dutch Ere Divisie, but I didn’t know they were from Rotterdam until watching this video. Full marks to their ground staff for letting you in, and giving you a scarf. That’s something Urawa Reds would do too. Excelsior may be local rivalries with my default Feyenoord, but much respect to the club’s kindness to you.

I was in the Netherlands 3 weeks ago. (Utrecht, The Hague and Rotterdam) Sparta Rotterdam: Fantastic staff. Especially the seller in the shop was super nice and friendly. And the exterior of the stadium is absolutely beautiful. My girlfriend had to go to the toilet urgently and the gentleman in the fan shop made an exception and she was allowed to use the toilet. Excelsior: The fan shop is really small. Super cute just a small switch with a glass window. I always buy scarves from the clubs I visit. The nice young man also allowed me to take pictures in the stadium, which I really liked. Feyenoord: I didn't like that... They came across as a bit arrogant to me... But big shop. And of course the stadium is great.

Great bud bud👍🍺 The Scottish clubs like Raith and Dundee should revamp their stadiums to having raised seating with facilities underneath the stands and higher up TV crew areas. Would solve the space problems they have for their stadiums in current locations, would open up more facilities and also provide better viewing for TV companies because the whole pitch can be see from a higher camera angle.

Literally we did the same tour like you 2 weeks ago. We didn't get ticket to the De Kuip even for a stadium tour. We went to Sparta Rotterdam Stadium. We got in to the fanshop and I bought the home kit, but we couldn't get into the stadium tour. It was the same like with you they said we need to send an email. After we went to Excelsior Rotterdam. They were very friendly. I bought their home jearsy and we could walk around in the stadium without any problem. I loved the Excelsior Rotterdam Stadium. It's small, but even that I liked it. Sparta was also good one gate was open so I was able to take some pictures inside. I love the Dutch football and the stadiums.
