I've had the privilege of having a place to fish that doesn't normally allow fishing a few times. It's a really exciting experience, and my favourite part is that you're doing it on your terms, every fish is entirely down to your own ability, and none of the fish have names or any of that stuff. It's absolutely class! Great film bud, as always.

Hi maybe you have some advice for me? I had an accident last November, I broke my back and now im in a wheelchair paralysed from the waste down. I've always been a keen fisherman and tried it all, from fly to pike, i was getting into bfs fishing using a baitcaster rod and reel. I've never fished for carp, I'm in Scotland so course fishings not as popular here. I'd love to plan a barge holiday. Do you know if this is even possible? See where your fishing now? I could definitely get to that type of venue in my wheelchair. Most our fisheries are rainbow trout bashing places and I find the boring plus you need to keep what you catch and no one wants a tasteless fish. I'd love some idea's? If you got any I'd be grateful. What a brilliant video you just made mate.
@tomwilshaw3 ай бұрын
Hey there, so sorry to hear about your accident but absolute RESPECT for keeping the fishing passion going! If I were in your shoes, I think venues like this would be quite ideal, ones with good road access, maybe even carp venues with cabins that you can sleep in to remove the stress of having to put up a bivvy/bedchair - I'm not super familiar with what's available in Scotland, but the swimbooker app is great, it has a specific option for wheelchair access, I'd probably start there and see what's available. Regarding a barge holiday, that sounds amazing, I'd love to do something similar to be honest! I don't know too much about them, but I know canals can be hit and miss when it comes to fishing. I'd probably look to the Norfolk Broads, lots of boats for hire, and whilst it's certainly not easy fishing, I have seen more fish coming out of there than your average canal - Hope that helps a little and good luck mate!

Hi Tom I would like to say that I have been enjoying your videos for the past few months and would say that the quality is only going up. 🎉 I am wondering if there is any like specific brands or rods that are cheapies but good since I have just been on a trip to a hard fishing lake and blanked but I think that some is luck and the other is equipment since I have a few of my dads reallllllllly old rods! Thanks for entertaining me for the last few months and keep up the good work ❤

That means the world, I’m glad they’re being enjoyed 😁 regarding rods, it’s always a balance of finding good quality for good value - I’ve only bought second hand rods as you obviously get a bit more for your money! Again, nice video. Is the washline tactic similar to the use of backleads? Or do you prefer to have as much line out the water as possible? Thanks
@tomwilshaw3 ай бұрын
Thanks :) It’s an even more effective version of backleads, for the right situation of course. In a perfectly clean and flat lake, backleads are great at concealing line to the bottom, but if there’s weed and depth changes, there can still be line for the carp to bump into - Washing line essentially lets you slack line from the far side

I usually dont comment on stuff, and you seem like a nice guy. However - there was a few instances of dangerous angling in this vid in my opinion. Sacrificing loosing rigs line snapping etc all to get a bite is not proper carp angling. You need to fish safely. If you dont think you can land a fish from a particular spot dont fish there. You even said it yourself during the vid! Theres now a fish trailing line in that lake, and where you nearly hooked one on the surface in the back of the reeds would have gone the same! Sorry if that upsets you but thats my opinion.
@tomwilshaw3 ай бұрын
Not upset at all! I really appreciate your comment :) I'm still learning, and fish safety matters more than anything so I'll certainly take what you've said onboard. I felt okay in the moment to fish as I did as the boat was there, I was using 20lb line, and I've had success in similar situations (with really bad weed for example). That said, I was gutted to lose the fish not only for the film, but knowing there's now a live rig in the lake. Thankfully it's barbless and the carp will have been able to get rid of it, but still not a great feeling to leave with.
@Jammysandwedge883 ай бұрын
The only bad bit of angling that I can see (just my opinion) is the whole washing line tactics situation, but other than that I don’t think anything else was down to Tom’s angling atall, he had a run, fish got snagged, he used a boat and tried his best to land it, keep up the good work Tom ❤

All the gear, no Idea this one!> An untouched lake and you didn't empty it?? I mean, you should have been catching 6 fish a day. This is the problem with modern fishman, they don't learn the basics over the course of there childhood and early teens, thus making them a complete all round angler by there mid 20's. They just want to start by carp fishing or targeting specimen fish straight away. You will never be a good fisherman doing that. You might learn how to catch fish from one particular water but you will not know how to turn up at any venue and be able to read a water and get the most out of your fishing. Dial it back a bit a learn how to fish effectively first. Understand the feeding habits and how to promote real feeding opportunities in your swim etc etc. You clearly have a lot to learn and its not about me trying to little bro you, its fact. Its the blind leading the blind when people take advice from poor anglers like this... Of course you had Alex on here, who is a top fisherman, and look what he did..

Maybe instead of tearing folks down why don't you give some advice and encouragement 🤦 The problem with "modern fishman" is they can't get their head around people learning a new hobby in their 20s and failing as part of that process of learning. Not trying to be a dick, but maybe try being constructive with your criticism and people might learn something new instead of just feeling discouraged and demotivated 🙂
