Does Isaiah predict that the Messiah would be divine? If you spent your life reading Isaiah 9:6 from a Christian Bible, the prophet appears to predict that the Messiah will be God incarnate. In this groundbreaking, in-depth lecture, Rabbi Tovia Singer demonstrates how the Church thoroughly corrupted the ninth Chapter of Isaiah and ripped this famed passage completely out of context. This lecture contains a comprehensive study of the entire ninth chapter of the Book of Isaiah, as Rabbi Singer maps out the context of this famed chapter. This is the second of a two-part presentation, and corresponds to ‘Isaiah Part 8’ in Rabbi Singer’s acclaimed video series on the Book of Isaiah.

Honestly, until now I was wondering why they didn't just continue up until the end of Isaiah, but now I THINK I get it. Part by part Rabbi Singer destroys the church, and with this last one, it's like the cherry on top of the cake. I mean; first the virgin mis-translation, and then this? Using a child WILL be born until us, a son WILL be given unto us instead of a child IS born unto us - a son IS given unto us? There is just way too much f-ery going on for me. It's going to take an ultra smart and ultra wise and ultra patient Christian to get me back into Orthodox Christianity or any form of Christianity because the hole that Rabbi singer has dug for the church is just so deep I don't see a way out. Praise the Almighty, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

I was brought up Christian, but I always felt depressed and confused reading that and the old t. Finally, I put down the book. I couldn't pick it up anymore. Something was not right. So many questions over the years. Then, finally, after many years, my cousin got me to searching again. Torah seems straightforward and simple to me. NO FEELINGS OF depression or any such things. @@ToviaSinger1 Rabbi I was brought up Baptist, but in teen years questioned a lot because I read the bible. I especially disliked Paul because I could see he taught against Torah yet Jesus said to keep his Fathers commandments. I kept digging till finally in my later 30's I gave up the trinity, Paul and NT this was in the late 80's. I got in touch with a rabbi and started taking Hebrew, found out later my great grandmother was Jewish. All my family & husbands were strict baptist, I converted. Some family turned against me but my parents supported my decision. Eventually after 41 years of marriage even my husband left. My son let me raise my grandchildren Jewish. I just could not keep on reconciling the contradictions and way the NT twisted scriptures and took scriptures out of context from the Tanak. It was a long journey and not a decision I made lightly. But a patient Rabbi slowly and lovingly instructed me and allowed me to ask the questions and answer them that the church pastors would get angry and shout at me. Never have regretted my decision to leave the church. Keep up the good work.

As I listen to this, I am thinking about the apostle Paul who was on his way to Damascus to root out the followers of Jeshua and have them killed because he was vehemently against this "new doctrine" that had been brought by Jesus. He saw a light from Heaven and heard the voice of Jesus speaking to him. Why are you persecuting me? Jesus asked Who are you, LORD? asked Paul. I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. You are kicking against goads and hurting your own feet. Paul immediately obeyed what he later called his Heavenly vision, and started telling everyone that Jesus is indeed the Messiah who was promised. The child that is born to us. He was born of a virgin in the town of Bethlehem. He lived in Galilee which was also prophecied. He suffered in Jerusalem at the hands of his own people. But God was working out His own precious Will... in bringing both Jews and gentiles together into a spiritual house of His making. Blessed be His Name.

It was put out by the Prayer Book Press, Media Judaica, Bridgeport, Conn. Compiled and translated by Rabbi Sidney Greenberg. In the Guide to Hebrew Prayers, it is under Yigdal/Adon Olam pg. 189. Here are the words in Hebrew first: Adon olam asher malah, b'terem kol y'tzir nivra. L'eyt na-asa v'heftzo kol, azai meleh(2x) sh'monikra. V'aharey kih-lot ha-kol, l'vado yim-loh nora. Eternal Lord, He reigned alone. While yet the universe was naught, When by His will all things were wrought, Then first His sovereign name was known. And when this all shall cease to be. In dread lone splendor he shall reign; He was, He is, he shall remain in glorious eternity. For He is one, no second shares His nature or his loneliness; unending and beginningless. All strength is his, all sway He bears. He is the living God to save, my Rock while sorrow's toils endure, My banner and my stronghold sure, The cup of life whene'er I crave. I place my soul within His palm Before I sleep as when I wake, And though my body I forsake, Rest in the Lord in fearless calm. (Transl. Israel Zangwill) Shalom

Hi. Didn't you read the Rashi to Isaiah 9:5? Vayikra is not in the passive as you seem to be translating it. i.e. the translation is not 'and his name was called' but 'and he called his name'. The question answered by Rashi is who called his name. i.e. what is the subject of the phrase? A better translation is therefore 'and the wondrous adviser, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, called his name, "the prince of peace." '. Hope this helps someone.

Lying is not good for your health. It will shorten your life for years. But more important it is bad in the day of judgement. There is not an important difference, Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB) Isaiah 9: 6 (5) For unto us a yeled is born, unto us ben is given; and the misrah (dominion) shall be upon his shoulder; and Shmo shall be called Peleh (Wonderful), Yoetz (Counsellor), El Gibbor (Mighty G-d), Avi Ad (Possessor of Eternity), Sar Shalom (Prince of Peace). It is just slight variations not bad for a 2000 year old hand copy from hand copy manuscript. 1599 Geneva Bible (GNV) Isaiah: 9 - 6 For unto us a child is born, and unto us a Son is given: and the government is upon his shoulder, and he shall call his name, Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting [a]Father, The prince of peace. Never use the modern translations they are based on a fraudulent manuscript. See my post.

This sparked a little circular reasoning in my head. The NT is 100% inspired, god-breathed, infallible scripture, right? Ok, yeah, uh huh, right. It doesn’t mention this, right? That’s right. So it isn’t about JC. They’ve answered the question for us. If it isn’t in there, it isn’t true, so they can’t use this argument.

I need to know Rabbi, if what I understand calling the mighty Elohim "God" isn't this term "God" pagan and we should render Yahveh's name as Elohim, or El, or Hashem leaving out the paganism?
@donald2306
@donald2306 4 жыл бұрын
Interesting question. The word "god" is a term that was used by pagans to describe their pagan deities. This word did not exist in the English language until the 6th century A.D. and it's origins were "Gadt" in Scandinavian and "Godt" in German. Also, words such as Elohim, El or Hashem are not names....they are titles. Here is the actual Name of God as he declared it to Moses: Exodus 3:15 " Then God said once more to Moses: “This is what you are to say to the Israelites, ‘Jehovah the God of your forefathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and this is how I am to be remembered from generation to generation." In Hebrew, the Name Jehovah is spelled and pronounced as Yehowah. This is God's personal Name and it was verified by Jewish historian and translator of the Dead Sea scrolls, Nehemia Gordon when he discovered the tetragrammaton (YHWH) with all three vowel points in their proper order in several places in the Aleppo Codex. Most biblical Hebrew names also contain the Divine Name in part such as JEremiAH, JEsus, JEsse, IsaiAH, JEpthAH, HezekiAH, JEHOshaphat, JEHOiakim, JEHOnadab, etc.

Shalom Tovia, it is a shame the Christian doesn't know Hebrew especially in light of the fact that the majority of them are the sons of Isaac! They will never put it together that J.C. who was the king of the Parthian Hebrews; and was hailed King (Messiah) during detente with Rome, to lead the lost tribes back to HaShem. The ten tribes always had their own king after breaking away from the house of Judah, before they were taken captive to Assyria, and were now looking for him to restore them to the land. J.C. admits that he only sought the lost, and sinfully sick; and didn't avail himself to their righteous brethren. The righteous of Judah knew he wasn't their King/Mashiach, and had no problem with that. It was instead, at the Gate of Rome, that the old hate between the two houses was renewed, and over this Parthian King/god's death, which as was revealed was put down by their greatest nemesis: Rome! It would help if they could learn Biblical Hebrew, and better still if they had been allowed to know they were descendants of Parthia, or even the History of their Ancestors the Parthian's; whom they became after assimilating away from Assyria. My people perish for lack of wisdom. I believe their Paul put it well when he said that knowledge of God put them at enmity. Just as it happened in the past, they still only wanted to run away and forget Him and his covenant. Parthian's were baal worshipers, and J.C. knew what his role was, in this restoration; and Rome went on to fight both houses, to end Israel; however a son was born, and as it says in Exodus 4:22&23 Israel His first born, and only son!

Thank you so much for this explanation, especially the context and the Hebrew grammar. Yeshua Yehovah is an awesome communication as is ykezqel . As a student of Yeshua I appreciate having a clearer understanding. Despite your scholarship you are held back by a tradition that prevents you from identifying Yehovah and miss using the word Elohim which tradition Christians have adopted leading them into a big error. You know that we are sons Elohim and that that does not make us Yehovah Who is the father and mother of us all. So it is my Master Yeshua does not declare himself to be Yehovah that is his father and yours and ultimately ours, but he is declaring by us his students that he has now become the executive power of Yehovah . And by I believe it’s because the father raised him up from three days in Sheol after being mauled by wild lions and hung upon across lintel and by all accounts dying there before his legs were broken.x it is this alone which demonstrates to me his total voracity and approval by Yehovah . This mysterious prophet taught his students many things after this astounding event and vindication. And this is why when I dared to study him by the grace of Yehovah that he has been revealed to me in accordance with the Tanakh ♥️♥️

The Septuagint is the original bible not the "hebrew bible".Who is Hashem? this is not in any bible,when you pray to Hashem any other god can answer, stop your spiritual blindness. The Father is the name our Lord Jesuschrist used. Hasidism and cabbalist judaism was created by buddists monks that visited Jerusalem and corrupted a group of jews to accept the dragon like god.

@mosherubenstein8248 5 жыл бұрын
I can't tell whether you're serious or not. The original Septuagint was a translation from the Hebrew. The Hebrew is obviously the original. More astoundingly, the Greek bible that Christians use today isn't even the real Septuagint. It's a later Greek translation, or rather, several of them. That's why Christian Bibles are all different, whereas the Hebrew Tanakh is always the same. A translation can't possibly have more authority than the original. Hashem is just Hebrew for "The Name". We don't pray to someone named "Hashem". The reason we say "Hashem" instead of the real Name is because anyone who speaks God's name in vain is put to death. It's blasphemy. If you read Leviticus chapter 24:10-23, someone speaks the Name in blasphemy, and he is stoned. By the way, if you're looking for "Hashem" in the Bible, it's right there in 24:11, and again it just means "The Name". I have no idea what's going on with this Buddhist thing you're talking about. Buddhism is only 2500 years old, so we predate them by over 1000 years, and it has almost nothing in common with Judaism. As far as I've heard, they don't worship a dragon like god. I've never heard of any religion that does. It sounds pretty silly. This is why I couldn't really tell if you were serious.
@donald2306
@donald2306 4 жыл бұрын
@@mosherubenstein8248 Some synonyms for the word "vain" are "useless", "foolish" and "worthless". Would you or anyone you know use God's Name in a foolish manner, in a useless manner or in a worthless manner? I expect not very likely! But, there are some who are opposed to the True God that would! What the Jewish religious leaders don't tell you is that avoiding the use of God's personal Name is displeasing to him and that he puts a great deal of importance in making his Name known. One cannot make God's Name known if they avoid using it. Here is what God had to say because of this rule that the Jewish rabbis made up that you should avoid using his Name and use the title "Hashem" instead: Jeremiah 23:27 " They intend to make my people forget my name by the dreams they relate to one another, just as their fathers forgot my name because of Baʹal." Sadly, as pointed out in that scripture, many Jews today indeed do not know the personal Divine Name of God because of the Jewish rabbis intent to keep people from using it. Keep in mind that the requirement of the Jewish Rabbis to avoid using that Name is most certainly not a command or requirement found anywhere in scripture! On the contrary, God himself said that his Name MUST be made known! That Name is Jehovah or Yehowah in Hebrew. If you do not use it, you can not make it known!

Jesuschrist is the Lord and Savior of jews and not jews. We christians followers of Jesus the Meshia love actuals jews and Israelites, we are not enemies, but brothers, we actually had manifest this love with monetary contributions to Israel the Holy Land and helping the actual jews in every way possible, so, I do not believe in a "blue eye" white, new age "rabby" that try to pass as jew, actual jews love christians and actual christians suppous to love jews, because, we are spirituals sons of the same Father.Jews were chosen by God the Father to manifest his glory to the world and to be an example of love to the rest of humans,not hate and supperrior race, but, differents, the same way christians.If you were a son of the Father you'll recognize that.

Dear Arthur: Assuming arguendo that Jesus of Nazareth is the Jewish Messiah (An assumption which I completely reject), he is not the saviour of the Jewish people. The role of the Messiah in the Hebrew Scriptures is not to save the Jewish people (Footnote: Isaiah 43:11 says: "I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior.') rather the role of Mosiach as told to us by the Prophets is to: (i) Ingather the Jewish people from the four corners of the earth; (ii) bring about universal peace wherein nation will 'not lift up sword against nation'; (iii) cause universal knowledge of the name of the one Lord; (iv) slay the wicked with the 'breath of his lips'; and (v) rebuild the Holy Temple. In surveying world history, no one has done these things yet, hence the Jewish people are waiting for the fulfillment of the scriptural promise...but even when Mosiach arrives no Jew will expect that they will receive personal salvation from Mosiach for our scripture teaches this is solely within the domain of the Lord. Lastly, did the prophet Isaiah write his scrolls in Hebrew or in Greek? If Isaiah wrote in Hebrew (which christian scholars universally concede he did) in what universe is a translation better than the original writings of the author?
