There are lots of subtleties there a non-Irish person probably wouldn't pick up on. Notice, for example, that Stephen refers to "Northern Ireland", but she never does. She calls it the North. This is because most Irish people see Ireland as one country. So we'll refer to the North of the country of Ireland. But not Northern Ireland which is the official title of the partitioned statelet. I wouldn't say Irish peple never use the term Northern Ireland, but we certainly avoid doing so as much as possible (as she does there). Also notice he refers to the North as part of the UK - which no Irish person would EVER do (well, unless they're wearing an orange sash and a bowler hat.)

The peasant diet in Ireland on the other hand was healthy. The Irish often drank a little buttermilk with their meal and sometimes used salt, cabbage, and fish as seasoning. Irish peasants were actually healthier than peasants in England or Europe where bread, far less nutritious, was the staple food. Irish farmers utilized an ancient 'lazy bed' planting technique. The British army said Irish men were stronger fitter and healthier and had better teeth, which was needed for changing the guns in them days. americans who live in the same country as florida. 'wow.... tell us what it's like to live around irish people!'
@emrmch2 жыл бұрын
EXACTLY! I'm Irish and constantly dumbfounded by every news story I see about Florida. Just, HOW??? Is there something in the water or is it just a meme gone too far?
@OpalBees2 жыл бұрын
@@emrmch the memes definitely pick the most sensational stories, but as someone who spent the first half of my life there, I can tell you that Florida really is… different. It’s because of its strange dichotomy of people. On one hand, it’s known for being *the* retirement state. If older folks don’t stay to live there permanently, many chose to winter there (we always called them snow birds growing up). The other largest population in Florida is absolutely wasted teens and 20 something’s on spring break or summer vacation absolutely wreaking havoc on every beach town on both coasts. Combine that with the massive tourist attraction that is Disney, universal, etc. and you’ve got a state full of mostly people who don’t live there full time, and the ones the do are usually diametrically opposed (massive republican population due to the retirement scene, yet is also one of the states with highest immigration and POC numbers). There’s also massive amounts of drug trafficking which is usually the fuel for most of the stories you hear. It just starts driving people crazy after a while I guess.

@@emrmch The real reasons are 1, population. Florida alone has more than 4x the population of Ireland. Not to mention the tens of millions of tourists that are there year round. And 2, there are no laws protecting criminal identities/behavior in Florida like there are in most other states. A journalist can call the local police and ask what kind of arrests were made and get the police reports. 3, The geography, flora and fauna lends itself to weirdness happening.

@@lavenderoh "there are no laws protecting criminal identities/behavior in Florida like there are in most other states" -> that actually means, the crazy shit that happens in Florida actually happens everywhere in the US, only with Florida we actually hear about it. 😂🤣

We don’t only allow people with fake veneers to be on tv and film that’s why the stereotype is still there, we care about a little thing called ACTUAL TALENT, america should try it one day 😂😛

That's a tired, slightly offensive and inaccurate stereotype there Stephen. UK teeth are better than American teeth. Accept it. Yet another thing that America is not the best at.

It's a really obvious difference between European and American movie stars - American movie stars have perfect teeth, European actors typically have some misaligned teeth. The dentist story is hilarious!
