This is a beautiful hymn of our church. Even though we often associate it with the sadness of a funeral, the words are triumphant and uplifting. This final rite is extended to every member of the church, regardless of station, reminding us that we are all equal in God's eyes.

I sang "For All the Saints" in a choir at the National Cathedral way back in 1974 at the installation of John Allin as Presiding Bishop. Only a third of the nave was even open then! There was basically a big stone wall blocking off the unfinished main part of the Nave. It was still a thrilling occasion for a West Texas small-town boy.

1. For all the saints, who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy Name, O Jesus, be forever blessed. Alleluia, Alleluia! 2. Thou wast their rock, their fortress and their might; thou, Lord, their Captain in the well-fought fight; thou, in the darkness drear, the one true Light. Alleluia, Alleluia! 3. O may thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold, fight as the saints who nobly fought of old, and win, with them, the victor's crown of gold. Alleluia, Alleluia! 4. O blest communion, fellowship divine! We feebly struggle, they in glory shine yet all are one in thee, for all are thine. Alleluia, Alleluia! 5. And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long, steals on the ear the distant triumph song, and hearts are brave, again, and arms are strong. Alleluia, Alleluia! 6. The golden evening brightens in the west; soon, soon to faithful warriors cometh rest; sweet is the calm of paradise the blest. Alleluia, Alleluia! 7. But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day; the saints triumphant rise in bright array; the King of glory passes on his way. Alleluia, Alleluia! 8. From earth's wide bounds, from ocean's farthest coast, through gates of pearl streams in the countless host, singing to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost: Alleluia, Alleluia! Always sung as the Hymn in Procession on All Saints Sunday, in many episcopal churches (especially rite I churches) do a figure 8 procession.

This is in our hymnal. One of my favorites, but we've altered the 2nd verse as follows: Thou ART OUR Rock, OUR Fortress and OUR might Thou, Lord, OUR Captain, in the well fought fight Thou in the darkness drear, OUR one true light. I like to think that Christ is our Captain today as He was to those of the past.

@@lynngatrell7965since the song is about the saints who from their labor rest, inserting “our” in place of “their” just seems like current day woke-ism.

I well remember when the media called this man a "wimp" when he was running for President for the first time, leading to the renowned "wimp factor" label that dogged him as he ran for President. When I saw him being rescued after being shot from his plane in WW2, at the Republican convention, I not only knew he wasn't a wimp, I also saw how deceptive and underhanded the media could be in pulling for Dukakis. The mainstream media even showed a video of Dukakis, over and over again, riding in a tank with a helmet on to bolster his weak image. ...DISGRACEFUL!!!
