I watched it once also & it absolutely tore me up!!! 😩 There needed to be a trigger warning in the beginning or something. I could never watch it again! But, I’m here to hear Queen’s perspective on it.

All of the ladies in that film did an excellent job. Loretta Devine's delivery of the poem, "Somebody Almost Walked Off With All of My Stuff" was perfection! Whoppi Goldberg's Lady in White was powerful and chaotic and heart wrenching. My parents have the book and I need to reread it. Mama Ntozake captured the nuances of Black womanhood with its kaleidoscope of colors, emotions, and authenticity. Black womanhood should be reclaimed from its oppressive chokehold from racism and sexism; celebrated, valued, uplifted, shown compassion and empathy, and respected. Thank you Queen Po for another deep and spiritual analysis.

Thank you Sis, you broke that down!! When you spoke about the “Lady in Brown” being all of the colors mixed together, I received a revelation. The Brown also represents us as a race that all others races evolved from. As the Original People, we are responsible for every other race on earth. Ase

Leave it to Tyler Perry to make a movie about wounded black women, or a wounded black community, nothing black is never positive in his mind. I love your channel Queen Po and I do have that movie.❤❤I love all these ladies in this movie.✌🏾✌🏾

Wow Queen! I saw this movie back in 2010 when it came out. I didn't realize that each woman represented the colors of the chakras. Thanks for the spiritual perspective. I never read the book. I'm going to have to get it and read it.

I just love when you talk theatre.🎭 You make it cool. My favorite part of Tyler’s adaptation was his commitment to her language. Her language is the melody of the choreopoem. And a lot could have gone lost if he chose switch wording. He did cut. But tastefully. Casting was IMMPECABLE! He planned on doing this for a while. And oooooozes! #ForColoredGirls has been a blessing to so many Black Women that do theatre. This film was the total embodiment of everything Mama Shange was trying to say. Almost feels like he ran everything by her first. She was known to not play bout her words. PARTICULARLY this work. Thank you for sharing ❤ I thoroughly enjoyed.

Wow... I never thought about it like this. But, since it was broken down in this perspective, I see and understand this movie even more. It's heavy and something I can't watch too often; however, it's a good adaptation nonetheless. I've come across the book a long time ago but I never read it. I don't think I was mentally mature enough to understand the subject matter at the time. Great analysis, Queen! 👑

I went to see this at the movies the day it came out. When the scene of the man throwing the babies out the window came on, I literally screamed and cried 😢 that energy just came out of me like if it was happening to me! My sister had to console me.. You could hear a pin drop after that scene 😩 Edit: So, I didn’t watch finish the video before commenting and I was wondering where was Kimberly and what chakra was she a representation of.. my chest just caved in when you gave her description because I literally boo hooed like that was happening to me and it did! I was her! Although my ex husband didn’t unalive our/my children, he did everything else! And what is so trippy is, that the day it came out was the day we became partners.. Wow talk about a revelation 😮 safe to say I’ve been divorced now for a year and doing better and better ❤

I read the book in high school 1991 and performed sections in drama competitions. One of my fave pieces of literature. I never watched Tyler Perry movie(s). Not a good representation of black people. Movies are forever and people around the world take them for truth. I can't relate to any of his movies that he has written .

Loved the original. Hated the movie just like most Tyler Perry movies smh. I'm convinced that man hates black women 😭. He added so much unnecessary trauma that wasn't in the original version and wasn't necessary to get the point across.
