I tried only once to use a crosswalk that wasn't at an intersection in Utah. It was a 4 lane road. Finally someone in the right lane stopped so I proceeded to cross. The rest of the traffic just changed lanes to get into the left lane and go by the stopped car. Some even honked at me for daring to cross the street. Its like they had no idea what a crosswalk is for.
@MasterMayhem78

Because unless there’s a stop sign then you’re obstructing traffic by stopping. The pedestrian can cross when safe.
@shrraga

@@MasterMayhem78 Pedestrians have priority over all traffic. When pedestrian is in crosswalk all traffic is required to stop until the pedestrians are out of the crosswalk. Pedestrians do not need to wait from noon until midnight for the traffic to ease up to allow for crossing without inconveniencing the poor drivers who will be slowed by 30 seconds by their crossing.

@@paveltolz6601 You're 1000000% correct. I used to live in Utah (2006-ish is when I left) and people running red lights was almost a given. If you take a look at the lights in this (and his other) video, notice how long it takes for the light to turn green after the other side turns red. The state itself has a 2-3+ seconds timeframe after all stoplights are red before making the next one turn green, just to compensate for people running red lights all the time... seriously! Time the red->green transition and look how long it takes!

I use to live in Philly and we'd just call these people, drivers or Jersey drivers. (For Philly people, I used to drive from Manayunk to Plymouth Meeting on Ridge/Henry Ave.) The number of people I saw run a red light AND the number of people I saw go right before the green is insane. And I'm sure they were the same people. How I never saw an accident still amazes me. EVERY light someone was running a red or going early. My favorite Jersey driver moment was when I pulled up to get gas next to a car with Jersey plates. I don't know how long they were sitting there but I got out and started pumping gas. The Jersey driver gets out of her car and loudly says, "well, I guess I got to pump my own gas." ...Yeah, it's 2013(at the time). You're not in Jersey (or Oregon). Full Service isn't a thing here. I also HATED every time I had to get gas in New Jersey. I have to wait for someone else to do something I've been doing since I was 16? No Thank You

Exactly ... Utah be a right to work state , not a right to walk across the street state. Cuz if you're walking you probably have no job . (their thoughts) LOL ... at least that's how it felt to me , in my encounters as a pedestrian vs drivers there. One time I had to do a cart wheel over a fiero that was turning right , with me in the cross walk approaching the corner they were turning at. And they just drove off as if I hadn't just planted both hands on their hood , kicking my legs up and over to avoid getting chopped off at the knees.

@Mk101T

@@jasminevalladolid1755 LoL your right ... I did feel like James Bond that day. It was in Ogden by the way. On their main drag , I think about 3-5 blocks south of the mall entrance , east side of road. I was 19 yr old at the time , so pretty spry . Just can't believe they didn't even hesitate , just drove on. The problem you mention at 3:16 in the video ... is the black car that flips a U turn. Starts from the right lane of the traffic lane he is traveling. What they should do is signal to get in the left lane , then signal into the median lane. Wait for on coming traffic clearance. Then execute their U turn. It is understandable someone could do what they did on a road with sparse traffic. But obviously that is not the case. Even with sparse or no traffic though , a cop could pull them over and issue a ticket.

Honestly some of those are scary, but some of those make sense, like the people stuck walking on the little nudge of "sidewalk" or people going under the speed limit. The speed limit is just an upper limit. If they're carrying something liquid or fragile, or just had a baby and are on the way back home, they are absolutely allowed to drive slowly. I hope that cyclist girl finally ended up buying a cargo rack and a net to carry her stuff. You could get hurt holding a bag like that on a bike. It can get stuck in the wheel.

My last Uber driver in UT almost rear-ended someone because he thought it was OK to go 45 MPH on a 30 MPH street in rush hour.

Most of that looks like Provo and Orem. Two towns right next to each other both have a university. Lots of students come from other states. And college students suck at driving.

The Russians have set a pretty high bar on these dash cam videos for sheer mayhem. Yours are very tame in comparison, but still worth watching.

I've had a dashcam and there's just a handful of really bad drivers among the many hours I drive. I hit the 'save' button when I see them. But still, I'm happy to say most people here do well. With one exception, we drive very fast on the freeway, but still not a lot of accidents. I looked up federal stats on this and my state was in the top ten best driving states. So I guess the stats confirm what I am seeing. And I live in a city with over 2.5 million people. I find it astonishing at the sheer numbers of bad drivers you have recorded. Do they not have drivers education in Utah as a mandatory way to get your drivers license?

I literally asked my parents for a dash cam for Christmas a few years ago because I was sick of seeing this BS on a daily basis and constantly worrying that I would get ticketed for something that wasn’t my fault. Utah definitely needs more drivers with dash cams…the absolute shenanigans I see on my daily commute are totally ridiculous.

If this is any indication, car insurance in Utah must be as expensive as rent is. 😆

Driver making the left at 10:21 is in the correct place. The center turn lane is striped for use only by the opposing direction at that point.

As in Columbus, Ga... I would guess that the police are short handed and drivers are less likely to get tickets there.
