Overhead tricep extensions are probably the worst exercise for the long head btw. They may be “stretched”, but that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily better for long head hypertrophy. When the tricep is in an overhead position it lacks the ability to generate force in comparison to dips, or pushdowns, which work better for tricep growth simply because of the leveraging at which the muscle is placed in. It’s essentially as useless as doing dumbbell pullovers for the lats. If you want to get a stretch on the long head of the triceps, then tricep pullovers with a dumbbell or barbell is your best bet. Since the long head is responsible for shoulder abduction and extension, this exercise utilizes the long head of the tricep throughout its entire range of motion and function. Kickbacks are also a superior choice, because they are responsible for shoulder extension and don’t put the long head in a disadvantaged, overly stretched state. Plus, it’s already been debunked that excessively putting the muscle in a “stretched position” leads to greater results compared to a more ‘traditional’ form of training (i.e., how the “bros” train). It’s all about the time under tension and biomechanics of the muscle. Of course, utilizing some exercises that put the muscle in a stretched state can be very beneficial. We have research to prove that, but these research studies DON’T say to put the muscle in an even greater “stretched position”, past the functionality of the muscle itself. A recent study found that machine preacher curls lead to greater hypertrophy in comparison to incline curls. The machine preacher curls (not free weight preacher curls, which are pure garbage) put the biceps through time under tension during the entire range of motion. This proves that the “stretched position” isn’t everything for muscle growth (unlike some illogical “fitness experts” might think), and proves that working a muscle through its greatest leverage point, meaning not overly stretching, is the best way to make gains.

When doing incline dumbbell curls, is it good to not go all the way down? I feel going all the way down releases tension. I go half way down and then back up again.

Way too many sets. This is muscle building, not a cardio routine. I’m confused about Jonni’s obsession with the number 3. Three sets this, three sets that. Also the 8-12 stuff. It’s an arbitrary number that he personally feels he needs reach to have a ‘successful’ workout. There is no logic, it’s just ‘feeling’. Also, there is no point in starting the workout with one set to failure to “set the tone”. What are you gonna do for the rest of your sets? Just move weight around? It’s already been proven that 1, the amount of reps doesn’t matter as long as you go to failure. 2, intensity is the main driver of muscle growth, not volume. There has been a numeral amount of studies that shown that when you increase the intensity of a set (using drop sets for example) it gives a more hypertrophic response then just doing a few sets to failure. It’s about the quality of the sets, not the quantity. 3, the peak contraction also has its benefits. There has been numerous studies that say that the contracted position increases time under tension, metabolic stress, increased muscle activation, and could even lead to greater gains. Isometric training specifically is an underrated form of hypertrophy and strength training that could lead to greater growth than dynamic movement. That’s just what the research says, but what do I know? It’s not like I’m a content creator or anything.

Yes but he is telling you the best way to achieve hypertrophy, maybe you can't get Everest peaks (because of genetics) but you should be able to achieve growth if you listen to his advice which is the goal ultimately.
