Latrell Hassell you have to remember these directors and film studios have the final say in what they think will work. From a standpoint in not knowing anything about him you’d say it’s a great story but from the view of those who began to know about him they find it to be in poor taste. Look at all of the movies based on the true events. They leave a great deal of the story out to sell a film to a crowd that knew not much of the story.
@warnerbrotherproductions21126 жыл бұрын
Andy Duarte I think we all understand that Andy. And it would not have been poor taste to anyone to stitch that fact in the movie of the sickle cell amenia Paul was suffering with. Literally this movie was perfect in my book except for leaving that fact out. They included Blues medical problems. Why not Paul's. It's still a great story either way but they are leaving out a vital truth that affects our understanding of him.

He had it controled before touring but the long trips and plane rides reeked havic on his body and their was no medicine to treat it then. So be began to use alcohol to dull the pain. His sickle cell was only getting worse as he got older which made him drink more and more. It deterioates your joints and starves organs of blood. So eventually it destroyed the one thing that made him happy....sing and dancing. I felt sorry to hear this and it made sense why he took his life. The movie made Paul to be an alcoholic because of depression, but that was only part of it. Paul's alcoholism was caused more or so of the fact that he had Sickle-Cell Anemia and it was taking it's toll around the late 60's early 70's. The only way he could just manage the pain and depression was with hard liquor and it just started overwhelming him.

I felt all the energy from that scene. It was heavy....you could see it all in the piano players face

Whoever idea it was to put this song in the movie was a genius. The original take from Stevie is so much more jovial and upbeat, while this is utterly heartbreaking.

That is so crazy looking back now I have learned that he also had sickle cell but the movie portrayed him as if he was always drunk. And now I can see he was sometimes sick but still working.

Yes,like why would they leave out the reason he was drinking.ive seen interviews of Otis saying he use to drink milk then he started drinking. He claims that they love the Temps more than they loved themselves. He never told the audience about his pain or illness.

This is one of the most powerful scenes I have ever seen in a film. The acting is 1 of 1. I cannot envision another actor in this legendary scene. The emotion of the singing is so raw and powerful. I don't know whether to feel sadness for Paul in his pain, or joy in the intense emotion of what the song references. It's actually a positive song, in a way. Feeling that you are finally loved and appreciated. For me this scene just makes me think of Paul's struggle with sickle cell and this was a crying outlet. Amazing scene, acting, and directing.

He drank to get away from the pain his body was in (sickle cell)...don’t let this movie fool ya. Otis did his boys dirty in this one and made himself look like a superhero
