Have you ever dreamed of owning and restoring your own Victorian dream house? If you are looking for a glorious home to restore that still has all of its original architectural details but needs a loving DIY hand, then this property is for you.
Built in 1880 the Alison-Crawford house in Little Rock Arkansas' Quapaw Quarter this Queen Anne Victorian home sits on an idyllic street, surrounded by beautifully restored historic homes. Walking through this neighborhood feels like traveling back in time. But this beautiful painted lady has all of her important parts replaced; all updated electrical, plumbing and HVAC give a sturdy and strong starting place for your restoration of this historic gem.
The exterior of this home has every detail that any idealized Victorian has; a full porch with gazebo end, tons of fretwork and gingerbread, and even a square turret. The backyard has an in-ground pool, a koi pond, a stone barbque, and a large in-laws quarters.
This amazing historical home has all the details that you want and just needs a little vision and sweat equity from you. This is the PERFECT "starter-home" for those that are dying to do a restoration of their own, but don't want to jump off into the deep end!

In the Judy Garland classic "Meet Me in Saint Louis" which took place in the span of 1 full year beginning on a hot August day in 1903 and ending a year later when the family visits the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition & Worlds Fair in, you guessed it, Saint Louis. My favorite aspect of the movie (aside from Garland's amazing singing voice) has always been their house. They live in a big Victorian Gothic Second Empire style house on Richmond Avenue, an Avenue lined with large Victorian single family houses that were a hundred feet from the road and 3-4 floors in height. The set designer definitely understood how well those homes were lived in and really weren't grand Mansions for the upper classes but built by and for professional working men (their father was a lawyer) who's salaries allowed them to build larger homes so they could raise big families and have all the comforts they could afford. It was a nostalgic film, released literally only 40 years after the fair, so 50 & 60 yo grandmothers would have been btwn 10 & 20 yo in 1904 and remembered everything about the houses they grew up in and would have recognized the large but very modest practical furniture, the way the kitchen was set up with a huge iron wood burning stove that their cook and house keeper (played by the legendary Marjorie Main) would praise as being able to "cook anything in that stove!" when the idea of moving to NYC and living in a tenament with "little pot bellied stoves". But the main reason I mentioned this movie is because there is a scene after the elder sisters have a party and soon after everyone leaves Judy has to turn out the lights all throughout the house before locking up and her crush, "the boy next door" is asked to stay with her "in case of mise". She grabs a long pole with clips on the end and she proceeds to uses it to reach up to the "Gas-aleir" so she can turn the knobs that control the flow of gas, and the light that remains she simply presses the button on the wall that controls the electrica bulbs. The wall sconces are also gas and she uses a shorter stick to turn those off and the living room chandelier is all electronic and shut that off with a button. I always found the idea of living in a time when you had to turn light off the old way and the new way quite fascinating. And those grandmother's in the audience I'm sure had fond memories of doing the same as so much has changed in their lifetimes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWG3ZWqjeJKdrrssi=rB9vXUYfaG9AEbaz

As you entered and walked about the 1st floor, I was taken aback because the layout is almost identical to my house in Pittsburgh, only much larger in scale. Mine stops at the dining room (depthwise). You walk through an arched doorway under the stairs to go to the kitchen and skullery. I was absolutely shocked when I saw the kitchenette next to the rear bedroom. I have the same layout there, too! Sometime in the late 50s, they knocked out the wall to what was the 5th bedroom and created a small kitchen for my great-grandmother who lived there until her death in the early 70s. Going back downstairs, as you enter the living room from the foyer, there is a set of glass pocket doors that had been sealed into the wall for decades & there's a matching set that separates the living and dining rooms. Like I said, my house is on a much smaller scale, coming in at a little less than 2,000sf and was built in 1912. OK. I've officially rambled on long enough, so I'll wind this up with a big thank you for doing this video. p.s. This is Larry. We chat all the time on IG. 😉

I have found my dream home!!! OMG, now I need to win the lottery and convince my family to move to the South! My all time favorite home is a Queen Ann Victorian and this home is ticking off all the boxes except a nice yard space for the dogs. I would most definitely start stripping paint! The first thing I said when we walked in the front door was “OMG, why did they paint all that wood?!” I love all the claw foot tubs in the bathrooms and would most definitely keep them in the home. I like the idea of having two master suits, one upstairs and one downstairs, although it is not true to the period of the house, with all that room, why not?!! The four season room would be my spot! Put some over stuffed chair’s and a couple side tables, some beautiful old lamps and a couple piles of books! This home is absolutely beautiful, with a few changes and a little work (especially stripping paint) it would be a complete stunner!! Thank you so much for yet another beautiful home tour. I can’t wait till y’all get back to Pearl and big sister!!!

That exterior color is gorgeous. The yard definitely needs work, cleanup & redesign. It sure needs the paint inside removed, a bit of remodeling, but it's very beautiful. I don't usually like a parquet floor at all but I could live with those, at least till everything else was done. I hope someone buys it who won't ruin it, and honors it as it deserves. Great video! And...That shirt is just the right proportion for you, it looks great! ❤

I would take out the pool and turn that space into a beautiful garden. IMO, the pool does not fit in with the Victorian setting and personally, I'm not a fan of pools in general - lots of upkeep, can be used for only a few months out of the year and can be dangerous for animals and small children. Putting a safety fence around it would detract from the house even more than it does now without a fence.

Love the big old Victorian, but I hate what they did to the beautiful wood work all though the home they painted it . Why does people do that when they could of bought another newer home . Then they cover up all the floors with new flooring, unbelievable! Love the back bedroom on the another side of the house I would fix it up and make it my very own. I love peace and quiet. Then I would redo it and make the rest of the home a bed and breakfast. People love old Victorian homes. Thank you for sharing the video with all of us .

I love this home and wouldn't change anything. Taking up the parquet flooring would be a very long and hard job. I lived in a home that had parquet flooring in the front hall and some of it came up and oh my the glue wasn't easy to remove so we gave up and just covered the missing tile we had reglued down. I wouldn't remove the paint on the staircase nor on the fireplaces. I'd be afraid I'd ruin them and the tile nor would I put a heater in front as it would detract from the beautiful fireplaces. God bless.

This would be great for a family with 6 kids or more, in my humble opinion. New carpet is cheap. Paint is cheap. Stencils are cheap. Rugs are not so expensive, especially used. I don't know if the rugs for the Victorian era would be that expensive? My Mom threw away 2 wool rugs that covered the floors of two large ante-bellum houses in LA (Lower Alabama) when I was 9 years old. And then she found out how much some people sell them for. We never had pets in the house.
