I was the General Contractor on this project in Apalachicola. It was a long and tedious process made to be a pure joy because of the owners. John was very "hands on" but more importantly he was very "brain on" the job. The most technically intelligent client I have worked with in over 40 years. His lovely wife Christine had very important and valuable contributions as well.

As a native-born Floridian, I’ve always been sad to see so many gorgeous Victorian homes torn down due to damage from extreme heat, humidity, insects, and hurricanes. Then I visited Apalachicola 25 years ago and was stunned to see so many Victorians still intact! I fell in love with the place instantly. A hurricane hit the city directly a few years ago (I don’t remember which one) and I thought, “Oh, no; all those gorgeous Victorian homes!” so I’m REALLY glad to see there are plenty still standing. The owners did a FABULOUS job. My grandfather was a master woodworker. He could turn four bedposts free hand (no computer to measure them) and have them all match. In the 1970s and 1980s he worked for Gulfstar in St. Petersburg, building real wood cabinetry and interiors for yachts. He would have appreciated the artistry and flawless restoration of this beautiful home (he lived to be 92). This kind of craftsmanship is being lost, unfortunately. Thanks so much for taking us on the tour of this immaculately restored home! 😊👍

As the granddaughter of an English furniture maker, I'm over the moon with all of that fantastic wood! Just wonderful! The owners have shown such attention to detail (engineer, lol), and everything is so tastefully done. Our Maritime Museum here in San Diego includes both the Star of India (built 1863), and the replica of the Surprise (used in Master and Commander), and I love to sneak extra time in the Captain's cabins; I totally agree that this house has a ship vibe in every room. Thank you for showing us all of the special details and features. I imagine the view from the widow's walk was unmatched before those trees grew so tall. Really enjoyed this one, Laine and Kevin!

I am originally from the south, but live in San Diego too. Love this channel and all of the great preservation work they both do! As the comments are turned off your most recent video I thought I would come here and tell you how sorry I am for all the problems with the “buyer” of Pearl. It is a lovely house and you both put you hearts and souls, literally risking life and limb, into restoring the house. Unfortunately there will always be people who are never happy, want something for nothing, and are full of venom and want vengeance. But I have faith you will recover from this and move forward with your new project and I look forward to watching you videos. Good luck and God Bless.

I couldn’t comment on your most recent video about the sweet green house, but I want you to know I’m praying for both of you, and even for those who are persecuting you. I would own any home you two have “restored” because I have seen the attention to detail and the hard work you put into each one. Turn the comments back on for your last video and see how much we all love you. Use the negative comments in your ongoing suit. Thank you both for what you do to bring back homes that have such history. God bless you both.

What you've encounter is the hardest part of this business. Everthing you addressed and how you commented in your newst video makes total sense. These people have taken simple resolveable issues and are trying to turn then into major problems. They are punch list items that the buyer gives the seller to be completed before closing. I have loved watching you create and restore for a few years. I am so amazed from beginning to end. I love what you do. Its sometimes impossible to modernize r a 100yr old home yet you truly work at it with the best interest of the house and the space offered. Hi Laine and Kevin! Now that's a wow, wow, wow house inside and out! I love and appreciate how that entire house has been painstakingly and fascinatingly restored to complete perfection and exquisite beauty---to include the landscaped garden areas and out buildings! That entire house is stunning and a compliment to itself. The flow of it is extremely cohesive and the furniture selections, wall hangings, etc., etc., were expertly curated and well placed. I can just envision a happy family living graciously in this house and thoroughly enjoying every holiday they spend together there. Reflecting on the fact that someone actually had to remove several layers of paint from all that woodwork in the stair hall, study and other areas inside that house, make my toes curl just thinking about it. Laine, as usual, I learned so much from you during this video! I also appreciate Kevin's expert and detailed videography of all aspects of this house, inside and out, which allowed me to thoroughly grasp and completely understand, marvel at and see the full effect of all things that are being presented. This video is awesome!

There is SO MUCH to love here! The charmingly painted 200 year old bathroom door. The bathroom turret. The clever way the bathroom’s walk-in shower with the weird angled wall space utilizes that wall and a *gorgeous* stained glasses window to let in light yet keep privacy. The original wood walls that are so incredibly gorgeous. The true widows walk with the original ladder. The tiles in the kitchen with the unique origin, and the UK fireplace that adds the current owner’s spirit into the diverse architectural history of the house that all works harmoniously together. I’m in awe of this beauty!

I’m commenting on this video, but it’s actually for your newer “Response” video because the comments are turned off on that one. For those of us who know your work and watched the progress on Pearl from the beginning, we KNOW how much love, blood, sweat and hard work you put into the renovation. It paid off, because Pearl is a thing of beauty! Jennifer Dean (the buyer who bailed on the purchase at the 11th hour) doesn’t have a prayer trying to prove her claims against you. In fact, you have video, photo and documented proof that Jennifer’s accusations are purely vicious libel and slander. She picked the wrong people to mess with, and I pray that this ridiculous noise ends soon for you both. Love you Laine and Kevin❤❤❤

This is my favorite home you've done so far, being a southern lady living FL. It's stunning! Are any of the fireplaces functional? Those coal bins could now be used as wood boxes, like I had in my old house, so you don't have to go out and get wood all the time. The light fixtures are amazing! I love eclectic mixed-style houses, so this would be right up my alley. I can't see a woman of that period climbing up all those ladders to the widow's walk. Probably had a servant do it.

I have always loved older homes. There was so much more that went into them than just boards, nails, and windows. The builders took pride in what they did. All the little details.
