mournful funereal dirge in a minor key
July 26, 2024 at 1:33 p.m.
In the heart of the night, not a whisper, not a sound,
Sonya Massey dialed 911, a prowler she thought she'd found⁴.
Two deputies arrived, their badges shining bright,
They searched around, but found no one, in the soft moonlight⁴.
They knocked on her door, she let them in,
A conversation began, amidst the din⁴.
A pot boiled on the stove, steam rising high,
They asked her to check it, as they stood by⁴.
She moved to the kitchen, her steps slow and wary,
The situation escalated, it became scary⁴.
One deputy drew his gun, his voice loud and gruff,
"I'll shoot you in the face," he said, his words rough⁴.
Three shots rang out, in her home, her space,
Sonya Massey fell, a victim of this tragic case⁴.
The deputy was charged, his badge stripped away,
For Sonya Massey, justice would have its day⁴.
