About a year ago I stopped watching James videos because of this exact feeling. I didn’t feel like I wanted the motivation that the videos gave me. I watched this because of the topic. It’s lonely!

I’ve ran my own business for years and the ups and downs are quite severe to the point that I think it’s affected my mental health quite badly. It’s difficult to stay positive when you are getting bad news and difficult to not get too excited about good news. James has identified he has coping mechanisms. That’s also what I try and do. If im having a mare.. I’ll get to my bed and try get to sleep (I’m usually that bloody tired) and when I wake up I think ‘that was yesterday, let’s figure out a way to fix this’ .. and it works Also, I’m a massive house music fan so that also keeps me going at times. I do think you need to be strong mentally to keep going and very determined to succeed. Stick in there. Your country needs you x

Some great advice James, refreshing honesty. Some days you win, some days you lose...sometimes its being able to manage the emotions and put on the business hat and anaylse the situation and step back and look at the devil in the detail with a honest and critical eye. I think for micro business owners emotions can be a real problem as they are the heart and soul of the business, so invested in every aspect of the product / brand that when something goes wrong its very personal.

Fantastic advice and a great post, James. I completely agree that taking a proactive approach is the best way forward. I sometimes find myself stuck, pondering too much and getting held back in growing my business, constantly questioning everything. Your post helped me realize that everyone goes through this, and it's probably better to just keep moving forward. Eventually, it doesn't matter which decision you take, just keep it going.

I always used to say ...it's lonely at the top. After 15 years of running a retail business and the stress that came with it, I put it in to liquidation and finally got my life back. I thought I was on the slag heap and unemployable, however 1 month later I walked in to a job paying double + holiday pay + pension + benefits + being able to turn the phone off after 5pm. If I need help with anything, I can call a department such as IT, HR, Finance, Marketing, Sales, Ops. There is someone ABOVE me being paid more to make the KEY decisions and I love that now. I've gone from doing 60hr weeks for £33k to 35hr weeks for £70k + holiday pay. Love your video's James. Your advice is spot on and my issue was starting a business is a low barrier to entry industry, I wish I'd have thought of that before going all money in all those years ago.

Today i got much more clarity of mind and know what i will be doing. Am i just keeping myself busy? Am i making progress? Am I moving forward or just sideways? I dont know

Why do many business owners take on the stress for sometimes little reward ?? Because most of them are unemployable......😮 And that's not a negative view , as quite simply , we need a country of the "triers , thinkers and risk takers... If we didn't have them in society the economy comes to a halt.... So hats off to anyone that takes the plunge your more important to society than you might think 😊 Oh and how to deal with extreme stress ? ...hit the gym hard!! , I added boxing to my lifestyle and worked wonders 🏋️♂️ 💪

I thought this was going to be relatable but then you talk about “buying another property” etc… like a humble brag. Hard to relate to that mindset when you aren’t even close to that level after a decade. Where do I find advice for someone running a business trying to keep the lights on and the bills paid.

It’s all relevant. No matter what level you are. We all experience the same problems. The same problems just get bigger. I experience cash flow issues and employment problems, No where near to James level but listening to James helps me think much bigger so I found more businesses to fold it to me current business and I’m going to view one this week. It £2.7m and I have no capital to buy it but I will find away. Before listening to James I wouldn’t have even considered it. Get your self on his podcast. Stay resilient and good luck

but james, you are making it sound like the best option is for business owners to start multiple businesses...this is not as you know. This type of idea can make early entrepreneurs start 5 companies in the first 5 years, and never give their all to one thing. There is a right and wrong time to diversify.
