He nearly died several times, the last being when the Empire obliterated the base which could have killed FNG and 069 as well, the only people he cares about. And now, that they got promoted and shipped off, the are in more danger than they've ever been and he can't protect them. I think for him this is the last straw. He's going to find them and all three of them are getting out, even if he has to drag them kicking and screaming (069, in particular).

His younger buddy got reassigned, so he can’t talk to him anymore. Empire took that away.
