Do we know the reason IRL? Normally something like this to pull the actor back is because he wanted to spend less time filming. Much like RDA in Season 8 of Stargate (although, they did it differently there)

Just where would a secret shuttle launch from and remain, you know, secret?

@@SylvanSkywatcher Lot of people live close enough to Vandenburg to see a Shuttle launch given it can been seen from. "Vandenberg Space Force Base launches can be seen from miles away, including in Southern California, San Diego, Arizona, and southern Utah. For example, a SpaceX launch from Vandenberg was visible across Southern California, from Ocean Beach to Kerney Mesa to East Lake and Bog Springs. Another launch was seen as far away as Orange County."

The lighting, camera work changed and the whole tone of the show changed for the worse when Sorkin left. Idealism went out the window. It wasn’t bad as a separate show, but compared to Sorkin’s writing, this barely holds a candle.

It just occurred to me: where does a "Secret Space Shuttle" launch? Given the infrastructure and personnel needed to launch the regular shuttle? It's literally impossible.
@SweetChuckPi5 ай бұрын
Vandenberg was the planned alternate launch site. It's concealed on a military base behind some mountains, launch during the darkest portion of the night. People would know something launched, but not what. You'd take a payload hit launching to the south, but a) we don't know the capability of a fictional secret military shuttle :), and b) even a standard shuttle rescue mission isn't going to be launching with a payload anyway. The actual military space plane, the X-37 is smaller and uncrewed, It's small enough to fit inside of a fairing so it's launches are quite well concealed. It has launched on top of the AtlasV, Flacon 9, and Falcon Heavy. But, so far as we know, wouldn't be doing any rescue missions, even to pick up two astronauts currently in need of a ride home from the space station.
