The TX legislature has really dropped the ball on this issue. This has been escalating for YEARS and I have yet to see any state politician come up with a thoughtful way to deal with the feral hog problem. First these TX landowners that exclusively profit off of wild hog "hunts" are a huge part of the problem. Lets be serious here. They have no interest in controlling the population of these animals. More hogs means more profits for them. Given the intelligence, adaptability and breeding rate of feral hogs these properties are just safe havens for the species to continue to flourish. I also don't think that just "more gun" is the answer to the problem. Feral hog hunting is very common in TX. If just more guns, more bullets was the answer the situation would already be improving. There look to be some interesting products coming to market that aim to control birthrate of the species more directly. A reliable interruption of this species breeding cycle is necessary if the population is ever expected to be brought under control. Time for TX legislators to put their money where there mouths are. It is estimated that there is more than 50 million dollars of damages annually attributed to feral hogs. Budget 10% of that annually for funding research and development for a solution. A problem this big impacts every Texan in one way or another. Forget about $5 hog bounties. In this video they show people flying in a helicopter shooting some hogs. Lets just say they can kill 1000 hogs a day using this method. Total bounty would be $5000. How much does it cost to lease a helicopter? How about fueling the helicopter? How about travel to and from the location? Ammo? Paying the pilot? Paying the shooter? You see the problem? It costs a LOT more than $5 to kill a single hog. Novel challenges require novel solutions.

It was not the Democrats that effed up the economy, it's the consequences of the pandemic, the disruption of global supply chains and the Ukraine war, mostly. Plus, you're paying the "interest" in the form of inflation of all the money printing during the Trump presidency to artificially bloat your economy. Everybody except gullible ignorant murican trumpsters who have no idea how economies work saw this comming as result of 30% of all the money ever printed in Murica being printed during the Trump era. Your greatgrandchildren will still be paying for your Dear Leader folly.

There is a plausible solution to the feral hog problems. Catch or euthanize these hogs and sell them to South East Asian countries like the Philipines, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos & Cambodia whose people like to feast on wild boars. To them, wild hogs are a delicacy. You need to centralize the export of such meat (frozen off course) to these countries. In US, once there is a price for selling the wild hoggies, the feral hogs will be reduced !

The hogs are the carriers of diseases that can be passed on to humans such as tuberculosis, hepatitis E and influenza A? Tell us that you have no idea what you are talking about without telling us you have no idea what you are talking about?
@vrcorvettes20482 жыл бұрын
@@Zelp789 Are you serious? According to the Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute, feral hog meat is technically not safe to consume. Most of the risks associated with consuming wild pork are connected to the diseases that hogs are known to carry. The U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Centers for Disease Control has put together an informative flyer that shows how hogs are known to carry at least 24 diseases. Among the diseases of concern are things like salmonella, hepatitis, E. coli, swine influenza, trichinellosis, and more. One big concern is brucellosis, which is spread by bacteria. The bad news is that you do not have to eat the meat to contract it. The USDA warns you can get infected from contact with blood, tissue, and other bodily fluids of these wild animals. Symptoms include things like muscle and joint pain, fatigue, loss of appetite, fever, chills, and sweating. Fortunately, brucellosis is rarely fatal and can be treated with antibiotics, but it's still something you probably do not want to contract. Most experts recommend the same thing to anyone who is preparing venison. At the same time, they are quick to caution that simply smoking, freezing, drying, or pickling the meat will not kill the bacteria that may spread diseases.

So $1.5 Billion problem, but 9 million wild pigs. Imagine if we had a hunting/trapping program could net half of them. That's 4.5 million. There's quite a bit of expenses there so say one can net $450 on average for each pig(this is a lot less than domesticate pigs right now which indeed are right there at the farm, but wild meat actually sells at a premium). That's at least $2 Billion. I don't see why it's such a big problem. Most of the crops we grow in this country we use to feed livestock that we eat the meat from. In other words, we eat pork so it's a lot better than say possums eating crops. Life gives you lemons, make lemonade. I knew somebody who used to say: "Rabbits are eating some of my garden, but I don't mind so much as I'm eating some of those rabbits!"

I wonder about the economics of operating a Helicopter with 4 people(& AR10's) aboard to shoot how many Hog's per flight vrs a commercially available trap that can catch whole sounders time after time for years & years. I'd bet you could throw in an agricultural drone with a thermal camera to track & target for a few Helicopter flight's. Of course the profit from a dozen paid for Helicopter Hog Hunts would easily cover the cost of a new Pig Brig or one of the many commercially available drop traps & the affor mentioned Agricultural Drone with a Thermal Camera! A single Heli-Hunt would probably cost more than an Agricultural Drone & a Home Made figure C Trap ;).
@thims19616 ай бұрын
Surely the single heli-hunt costs more than a pig brig?? Home made C Trap's just a couple hundred, though there's some pretty nice agricultural drone's a basic drone with thermal's what $4-500??
