Giant Reign E+2 for £3300. Slightly less spec drive train but you do get mullet wheels and 800 watt battery. Also 170mm upfront on Zebs.

@@JohnChristopher-k7u Thanks, will take a look. I have noticed that some of the German ebike manufacturers have realised that there is a big market for touring emtbs. I need that pannier rack to do my shopping but also if I am going on a 20 mile ride in the country. I don't want weight of a rucksack on my back. I heard in a video that Nicolai are selling most of their Saturn emtbs - the one with that fancy new Pingu oil internal gear motor - to over 50's males who want their touring option, meaning the Saturn having a rear rack and mudguards. Makes sense to me. The Germans are very practical.

I absolutely love the Yamaha e-bike motors. I’ve been riding with one in my Giant Fathom E+3 29er hardtail since 2019 and apart from a few teething problems in the beginning, the motor which had been tuned by Giant has been diamond. My one and only reservation is the motor drag which kicks in once the speed exceeds 15.5 miles an hour. It is so effective that I now use it as a secondary air brake when zooming down very steep hills. You don’t ever want to run out of juice witb a Yamaha motor, which brings me onto the only real problem I have with this fully loaded Yamaha full suss e-MTB. In today’s market a 500wh battery is puny. Given that this bike also isn’t particularly light weight that spell double trouble, unless you’re using this bike at a bike park.

I have this motor type motor except little older version on a 2021 version on a giant trance E+ and it's the noisiest motor I've ever heard in my life, I also have this version on a 2021 Liv and it's nice and quiet, I also have a turbo levo specialized 2021 and it's the quietest. Anyhow I do think these Yamaha motors are good as long as you stick with a 2022 version or up are even quieter!

For $3k, full power motor, XT drivetrain, and Magura MT5, that's a great bargain. I'm currently riding a Trek Fuel Exe alloy TQ motor, and i love it because it still feels like an acoustic bike and very agile. But I wouldn't mind having a full power, and the Yamaha bikes are definitely at the top of my list at that price point.

@@alexbiketester there are two possible stories as to why they have every single bike at about 60% off right now. I called a Yamaha dealer that used to sponsor me off road. We’re talking 40 years ago so it’s not like they knew who I was. He told me that Yamaha is recognizing the bike market is expanding so well and they want to get more bikes out there. that would make sense. I also have noticed that they have hinted at some very new technology for bikes. Maybe they are looking to change everything over, I really don’t know. But I do know for the money, bike in their lineup would be a win.

Just picked up the last '05 version from a local dealer bc the 07s are completely sold out at this point. Lower level stuff but I don't think I'll notice much and I like the color better. Note the charge port is all the way up at the top of the battery by the stem....away from mud and water ingress...Hmm I'd say brilliant but it's really just common sense placement all the other brands ignore for some reason. This is also the only motor I have seen fully submerged on some videos without any mention of water ingress issue somehow. Crazy price drop on their whole line for some reason...Why? (Moro dropped from $6.5k to $2.5k?! 😵) How has this bike or motor not gotten anywhere near the video review coverage as the other big guys?

I would say different. The spectral has a lower bb feels bit more stable in corners. The moro has more agility. The motor feel regarding torque is comparable with the ep801. more than the ep8. The canyon is a "better" bike, but, not when looking at pricing the current deal blows away anything.

@user-vf7gp1hr9c
@user-vf7gp1hr9c Ай бұрын
Just picked one up last week. Climbs like a mountain goat, shocks are very responsive. I think the rear may be over damped on compression for my weight (168 in gear), but it's still holding lines. Love the motor! Power at every cadence. I ride around mostly in Level 2 (of 5) and sometimes kick it up to 3 on hills, 4-5 if I'm worn out. It is just right for Santa Monica area with all the straight up, straight down stuff. I like getting a feel of laying down power and getting heart rate up like a standard Mountain Bike, but not being blown out after one 5-800 foot climb. I've tried Turbo, but it's too much power for my liking. I've taken to using that on descents where you might encounter creek crossings that you approach down and need to power straight up on the exit; power is right there on tap. I've done about 23 miles/2.5 hours on one charge with massive elevation gains. Also did Ridgeline in Malibu and only used 50%. I'd say the motor is very efficient, though I'm not hanging out in Turbo all the time, but on the Malibu run, I sure did use a bit of Turbo on the climbs; its all very intuitive and you just select what need when you need it. I'm smoking my buddies who are riding Specialized Turbo Levo's with 90 Nm and 700 Watts and keeping steady with them on battery usage (percentage). They are rolling in Turbo basically 100% of the time and are more toward the 200/200+ range. Bottom line, if you are in the 150-190 lb weight range, I wouldn't worry about Battery range. I'm going to get a Sigma computer to see exactly what's going on (I think Yamaha designed things to be compatible with a computer/phone; basically outsourcing display ton your preference, but the light system gets the job done). All, in all, very impressed. Love the brakes, wheels are fine (removed the awful turquoise stickers on the black model, but the royal blue ones on the blue model look great) and the black/silver paint is top shelf. Beautiful metallic. Added crank protection books and my own pedals (but you could get by with Yamaha's). XT derailleur is beautiful (though I promptly dropped the bike in the garage and scratched it before my first ride 😠🤦). For reference, I'm 168-172 geared up, commute on a fixed gear or road bike at 18-22 mph's for 7.25 miles each way and can make it up the grades on an acoustic mtb, albeit with lungs busted and only good for 1-2 per ride whereas with this bike, I'm just itching to climb, even at the end of the ride and after 1,500+ feet gain. I'm not a big technical downhiller so I can't speak to that handling as much, but it scoots down the various high speed runs I've hit. Hope that helps. Also, 33" inseam/5'9" on a Medium. Cockpit may be just a hair tight, but not sure I'd jump to a large, though I'm also not sure the typical considerations of nimbleness apply to the heavier e-bike realm since the weights are already enough to keep you from stunting all over the place, though she rides very smooth and jumps great.

Yeah this is just some marketing talk. Yamaha is middle of the pack performance wise. Bosch gen4 is the best with instant full power and overrun. Bosch gen4 also has the best power curve giving the most power from low to high cadence. Well excluding Powerplay which is a step above Bosch in power but also has "natural" power meaning slow and lazy power delivery. And the yet to be released DJI avinox is obviously far above anything getting peak power for 30 seconds instead of 1 as it is on rest of the motors. Yamaha is in line with Brose and Shimano but the performance certainly isn't anything note worthy. I did notice Yamaha has a strong pull when it get to medium speed or cadence but the problem is Bosch style instant power is just better because you want the acceleration when you touch the pedals not some time later. And from bench tests Bosch also looks to be stronger accross the cadence range from low to high, again excluding Powerplay and possibly Bafang. 23 kg weight on a 500Wh battery is not anything special either. If that is the announced weight by manufacturer it means the real weight is 25kg. Which would be pretty bad with a 500Wh battery. Nor does it really matter to have a 23kg bike or a 25kg bike. Battery size, spec and motor are far more important stats than 2kg of weight. And price wise you get corresponding bikes for the same price on different motors with the large discounts you are starting to see. For experienced MTB riders looking for performance the choice is between Bosch and Powerplay. The rest of the motors are for people who don't care about performance and just want to ride something. Not sure how Bafang and Pinion stack up so they might have something to offer as well. And DJI is just basically twice the power of the other motors.

Cost wise the Moro 07 with specs at that price was also highlighted by @mbr to be a top pick. If the bike was 6k I might have a different opinion. Certainly for the price this setup is hard to beat, and for entry level its hard to ignore.
