MGU's. A bike with all the traits of the Amflow (on which I would prbably tun the power down to 85nm) with an MGU would definitely open my wallet again. I have a '22 Orbea Rise which is perfect for me and I see the loss of the derailleur, unsprung weight and a protected low maintenance gear box as the next meaningfull step in development for E-MTB's. I would also like the speed restrictions lifted to 20 mph/32 kph on this side of the pond which IMOH would not jeopardise the safty of others in the hands of sensible folk (you cannot legislate for the others).

In the US used market it appears that there are no limit of SL bikes on the cheap. The kenevo is my bike of choice I have a 21 and I can't find anything new on the full power side so definitely looking forward to perhaps The forbidden with the avinox and not to 600 watt hour battery it's rumored to have but the 800. The full power eBike has been my go to bike since 2019. For me eBikes are more fun to ride, My riding has improved because I’m riding and cornering faster that has made me a better rider, I climb just about every hill I come across on the trails and I ride 2-3 times the distance. Example: On my traditional MTB I would average 10-12 miles of single track trails and would be pretty much exhausted at the end of my rides. On my eBike I now average 20-25 miles on the same single track trails and I’m not as exhausted after my rides. Greg

In regards of the Amflow - IMO it is not just the power that makes it so desirable. It is all that power for a bike that is under 20kg. I think most of us want exactly that - full power, big range and weight just between 20kg.

What we need is a standardised frame/motor mounting system & batteries. All these brands (or at least the big ones) should communicate and figure out a way to bring forward some basic standards, I believe that will create much more choice and streamline choosing a new bike. Won't happen overnight I know, but it needs to happen within a realistic time frame otherwise we'll end up with frames that are "out of date" because a bike manufacturer changed the bolt pattern on the "new" 202X release and last years model is now obsolete - leading to more wasted/trashed frames.

Personally I’d like to see things slow down a bit… as I feel emtb is almost the PCs of the 00s where you would buy one and they would be out of date as soon as you put it in the car! With regard to technical uphills. before ebikes, I was into riding for the fun of the downhill and the tech sections. if I found myself riding up a hill no faster than I could walk, I'd rather get off and push, trying to get over a wet root on a steep climb on a traditional bike at 4mph just isn't worth attempting! but now with the ebike, there's something more challenging with maintaining flow and attacking a really tech uphill section. if you'd said to be 10 years ago, I'd be riding uphill and using a root to get air to enable me to clear a tricky section, I wouldn't have believed you! The video Blake did at BPW on the ebike climb was a great example uphill flow/fun

With the Dji Avinox motor it's more about the unbelievable control I have over the power. It really must has some smart technology to apply the power in Auto mode. It to me feels like it's taking into account the slope, gear, wheel sensor (42 position ) and the crank stroke position(like a Oval chain ring effect??) + more tricks to give a really smooth feel that I don't think the others have. It doesn't need that much mumbo-jumbo but it gives it incredible acceleration to give you heaps of momentum when needed. Simply my first impressions.I haven't found the need for the 30sec Boost YET. It's a very good jump foward in motor, battery , display ,adjustability, charging and above all control technology. E=mtb² By the way I'm 62kg so I made a 4kg lead water bottle to experiment with a heavier Emtb which I prefer .

Happy New Year, guys! Thanks for another great year of eMTB content. You've both educated and entertained me greatly this year! 😎 1) For 2025, it would be great if you guys showed more riding of your trails in actual speed versus so much cutting and pasting of your riding slowed down over bike reviews or how-to's. These bikes are made for riding, and seeing that is what made me want to buy an ebike and hit the trails! 2) I'm planning on getting a new eMTB in 2025. I like your sponsor's Canyon Strive On, but in the U.S. they only sell the lower level Underdog. It's a good bike, but I'm hoping they'll at least release the middle tier if not all 3 levels. I also like the new YT Decoy SN for the weight, but being a heavier rider, I'm concerned the Fazua Ride 60 isn't powerful enough. Put a 105nm DJI motor in that bike and I'd buy it immediately! 3) What I'd love to see this year is for silly laws against Class 1 ebikes to just disappear. There are so many trail systems around me in the Southwestern United States desert that ban ebikes for ridiculous reasons. Opening trails everywhere would be great for the sport, bike shops, local economies, people's health, and family time. I know my wife would join me on the trails more if we didn't have to travel over an hour to ride ebikes legally when there's a trail system 10 minutes away. We can't even take ebikes to the Sedona Bike Festival because the trails won't allow it. As an older rider with health challenges, ebikes keep me riding, but be blocked from awesome trails and events like that seems so unfair and unnecessary. 😓 Anyways, can't wait to see what you guys have in store for 2025! Cheers! 👍🎉

I’ve got a stock Bafang BBSHD on a NOS 2013 GT Zaskar 26” medium frame. Running a 24” X 2.8” rear tire. No problem putting the power down. And well, you have to turn the power down on steep uphill starts. The throttle is shit, almost an on / off switch….so you just do t use it… My hypothesis on the big brands using low voltage, 250 watt motors; it’s all the drive train will stand over the long haul. And why I use the most massive single speed chain from KMC and a Sturmey Archer 3 speed. Actually with 160nm torque you can run it as a single speed. And I got a Luna Cycle chainring with replaceable teeth. Half the cost of one piece chainring… PS I’m 73 and my diy e-bike makes pedaling optional. And it’s very nice on the road. It will do 30mph in traffic, the speed limit here in Portland where all surface streets are now 30MPH. The people driving must hate it. I can blend with traffic to make left turns. God forbid I hit a banana !

Hi, love watching your channel 😊 My point of view: do we need lots of power/torque on the motors ? I think that is directly related to the type of ebike regular use, day by day…….. For example I recently bought a Turbo LEVO SL COMP and use to ride XCountry…..no downhill, specially considering my age by 70 years old, then I made some changes on my LEVO on a result of total weight of 15,2 kgs !!! This is perfect to allow better condition to the MAHLE motor with only 50 Nm….very happy with results 😊 2

I would love more than 85nm that I have at the moment. 150nm would be amazing as a boost mode to get through muddy trails and steep long climbs. I reckon any traction issues can be tackled with wheel rims, tyres and suspension as is the case with motor bikes. The extra power will easily offset the extra weight.

I'd like to buy a new bike this year! would renew my Levo gen 3, Im in a lucky position where I can afford their lower end spec so one of the reasons I'd sell is that it appeals to someone that doesn't have the budget for a new one and helps growing the community, having more emtb overtime will be a good thing for prices in the long run I'm not lucky enough that I can get a new one while srill owning my 'old' one though 🤑

Fearures - I'd like to see some improvements in software and displays. Would be nice to have more integration with apps such as trailforks. Also, maybe add charge ports such as usb-c to charge your phone on the ride

I’d like to see some focus on battery safety. It’s hard for consumers to even know what battery is in the bike let alone what certification it might carry. I think we need this to always be part of the discussion.

I already have a 3rd gen S works and my local spec shop said the new one is well worth the wait and the reset of the manufactures will be shocked on what they have brought out as his been involved in its development like Steve has so a upgrade may be coming if its that good as per the speed restriction i have de restricted in the past as i used to do alot of riding on the road and found that the 15mph cut off was a too early cut off as a manual the on same roads i would do around 22mph personally i think we should have the same cut off as europe at 21mph as doing 21mph also keeps the flow of traffic at a better speed behind you

Power will keep increasing as one manufacturer competes against another it will eventually evolve out the end as not a bike and possibly called a 'Motor bike' oh hang n a minute I think we have just reinvented the wheel ! Yes buying new E bike this year.

I'd like to see more adventure stories, especially the ones where Steve suffers! 😁 I ride a 2020 Levo SL which has 4K on it, so yeah thinking about a new bike in 2025 but it will depend on what happens in the mo power SL space and prices. A 19KG enduro with 80Nm would be my happy place. As for EMTB industry, I too worry about bikes with enough Nm to roost; it will get us thrown off the trails for sure. Class I bikes need a clarification of not just the 750W limit, but also 110Nm limit as well. Just because someone would buy more doesn't make it a good decision for the industry. And one last thing I'd like to see: standardization so motor swapping is possible, at a minimum within a motor brand though cross industry would be ideal. It would address the upgrade cost question as well as the used bike problem.

I think the balance of power and form factor is gonna be the key. At what point do we just go full moto power? One has to realize there has to be a limit with regard to the power we can bring to multi use trails. For me a 35 to 45 pound form factor, 85 to 100 newton meters of power, 150mm to 180mm of travel, have enough juice to ride 3 to 4 hours without having to apollo 13 the power management, and be end user serviceable with regard to the ebike motor and battery. Also would like to see an upgradeable motor and battery platform to accommodate newer motor battery tech.

What I'd like to see are upgrades for existing bikes, it would be great to see improved batteries for the likes of a levo sl

I think the future of EMTB is SL all the way, I companies come up with a light weight 600Wh batteries, light weight Ebikes will be the way to go!!!!

no I don't need more power. Thanks for making a question I wanted to answer.

Trek Rail 7 four years in, 1800 miles (I have other bikes) many upgrades. Absolutely love it. Imo no need for extra power at all. Ride in emtb mode most of the time. I ride bike parks and FOD regularly and session ability is insane. The speed limit should definitely be changed, as many have mentioned I can ride my roady at 30 mph 🤷 my Trek is derestricted but its never on the road. I wouldn't buy an eeb I couldn't derestrict. I feel companies should concentrate on making the motors, reliable, servicable and waterproof above power.

the elephant in the room is motor reliability .....mostly concerning water ingress. If any brand thinks they have cracked that they should be providing much longer warranty.....none are doing that!!

What ever happened to the TQ 120nm motor that was on the Haibike? I would like to see TQ come out with a revamped 120 nm motor.

Need more power? What does need have to do with it? Hahaha. We want want more power. But I agree with you. I run 120 newton meters on a 1000 w buffang hub motor peak 16. I have 37 amp hours. I'm 63 and I love having that extra boost up those steep techies. Regular bikers and hikers alike are starting to question whether we are little motorcycles.

Can’t see myself buying in 2025; updated my 2021 full power to a 2024 mid power (Fazua) lightweight. Hoping by 2026/2027 things are widely available in the low 40s w/full power until then I’m totally content on the SL bikes as is.

My answers to your 3 question: A1 - More tests/reviews of bikes, especially low specs models, not only highend top specs A2 - No, I wont buy new bike in near future, I bought Trek Rail in the beginning of 2024... I will spend my money to some modifications... stem, handlebars... etc... A3 - It will be great if ebike can "save" bike industry from total bancrupcy

Hi guys, I’m looking to explore trails all over UK in a motorhome. EMB is what I’m looking at but weight is a huge challenge for payload so what do you recommend for quality vs weight vs cost. 👍

The Thok Askoll pushes very similar numbers to the Amflow, as do many other motors, Amflow is simply the mule for the DJI motor and battery, other manufacturers as we know are looking at the tech so who knows, for me the jury has yet to decide exactly what future the Amflow / DJI derivative has as a one trick pony can't please everyone.

I have a question to Paul ERGs question. Is there almost no market for used bikes (pretty around the world) ? Whats the resale value of E-Bike (percentagewise) after lets say 5years or even 10years ? Unrelated question! Hre is a scenario; I have an E-bike and some parts break can I still get spareparts and service for these spareparts in 5/10/15 or even more years ? Btw: I still love my normal Radon QLT Race, after 16years.
