"For Unto Us a Child is Born" from Handel's Messiah - American Bach Soloists

George Frideric Handel wrote his beloved oratorio Messiah in a three-week burst of intense activity during the fall of 1741. While legend declares that this accelerated fervor resulted from divine inspiration, it was certainly helped by the fact that in some parts of Messiah, Handel recycled his own music. The well-known chorus « For unto Us a Child Is Born » for example, is a reworking of an Italian duet « Nò, di voi non vo’ fidarmi » that Handel had adapted just a few months earlier. But while the duet remains relatively unknown, its choral cousin is now regarded as one of the most glorious expressions of joy in the Christmas repertory, and an enduring Christmas tradition. I had a tough challenging day at work. (I install roller shutters). I accumulated also some frustration over disbelief of some trolling blaspheming people I came across today saying the Bible is a foolish book. By the end of the day I found this on KZbin. What a relief. One of the greatest piece of baroque music - oratorio by Handel inspired by the "foolish" Book. I'm in a good company. I'm just another fool admiring my dear Messiah, my Saviour. ☝🙏❤🤠

Fabulous rendition by all and unbelievably great recording (engineers 10/10) with such sympathetic acoustics. Perfect pacing too. I wonder why this piece has the susceptibility to be too slow or too fast? Your version is in the Goldilocks zone for tempo. I notice that all the singers are looking up almost all the time- that professionalism! I sang under Stephen Cleobury (King's College, Cambridge) a few times in a summer festival chorus and he used to say "I don't mind you looking at the score as long as you look to me at least once each bar". Isn't music wonderful? Thank you.
